Offensive play with multiple scoring options. Best used against a defense that plays tight (face-up) person-to-person coverage rather than good help person-to-person coverage.
This play isn't intended to be used as a continuous offense to be played throughout an entire game, but there are so many scoring options from this one play (doubled if you run from both sides) that you can run this play multiple times throughout a game.
I would use this play during a game if the defense is playing really tight; usually when my opponent is trailing and there is less than two minutes in the game. It helps if you have a good point guard and a big who can pass well.
I hope you find this video helpful and are able to implement this play with great success into your game! Please subscribe to my channel and drop me a comment or question below. Blessings to you.
This set play or "quick hitter" to run against a person-to-person defense is great for teaching youth, club teams, junior high, high school, and recreational teams.
If you have recorded video of your team executing this play or any of the plays you've learned from my channel and would like for me to do a RUclips video review of your team executing the play, please email me at:

Coach Russell - this is a great video. Very well articulated, especially the key coaching points to make these options work. Thanks and keep up the great work.
Terrific presentation. Very clear.
We won the District Meet 2018 because we used this as one of our plays. Thanks.
Awesome! Congratulations!
Me and my team just learned this play last night at practice... I think it'll work pretty well against the team we're playing today!!! THANKS!!!

This was great. I've run this before, and will try it again this year, with the additional options you added
Awesome! Please let me know how it goes!
This play work s for me every time.
Do you have a video of your team running this? Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for the plays I can use to run a good offense
+Omarriyon Williams you’re welcome! Please leave a comment and let me know how the plays work out for you and your team.
its cool👍👍👍
This would be a great play for the Bulls to run against terrible defense (i.e. Bobcats, Warriors).
Noah's a pretty good passing 5, so he can make those sharp passes. You got Deng cutting to the basket as option 1, D-Rose option 2, Boozer or hopefully Gibson option 3 at the high post (where they can also sink the shot), and perhaps put C.J Watson in to make that 3 if nothing goes right.
Great play(s)
Thank you! I didn't invent them, just put them together for others to learn from on RUclips.
Hi I realise this is a bit of an old play. But I am trying to get my team moving to threatening positions against a man to man defence off the ball and I feel this is a good play to teach that. I have a quick question though:
Is there a particular reason why the 1 player stays in the post following an unsuccessful lay-off? I feel like he and his man are congesting the key for the number 3 coming off the screen. Would you advise that when the 4 comes down for the pick (and if the 1 is a decent perimeter shooter) 1 should pop out for a potential corner 3 point shot?
I may be missing something obvious here but would be grateful for any comment.
Great series of vids by the way.
from an Amateur Men's coach from London
Awesome Video. Im curious if the 2 isnt open do they dribble up and reset the look?
thank you so much coach. this really help being a great player. specially for us that was not blessed in height.
Hi Remil! Thanks so much for your positive comment. I really appreciate it.=)
thanks coach i want to be acoach someday
I liked this last year but didn't implement with 6th graders. This year's 7-8th grade team should be okay. Looking forward to trying it. Thanks Russ!
You've very welcome. Best of luck. If you're able to, send me some video of your team executing the plays and I'll post it on my channel. Have a great season.
We run this play. I have my 1 pop out to the corner if he can't get the hand off. If the curl isn't there for the 3 I have him keep going to set the baseline screen for the one. 2 v cuts and pops out and we are set up in our flex offense. 5 makes the pass to the 2, 3 screens for 1, 4 pops right corner.
Nice! I like how it flows right into the your flex.
For the first and second option what if the high post man leaves him him and goes to the cutters
any drills for a defence who is taking man to man to my best player and rest are playing zone of 2-2 or 1-3..
I'm on the girls basketball team at my school and we are doing this play in our games thanks Russ☺
That's so awesome! Please let me know how the play worked out for your team!
Russell Mano we won the game thanks😊
Hey I coach special olympics basketball would this play and 23 set play work if defense is running a 2-3 defense or just man to man
Hey Coach, thanks for the question. Those two plays are designed for M2M defenses only.
Coach do you have a channel where you have live clips of your plays?
Hey Coach,
Sorry I don’t always stay on top of all the comments. I barely find the time to produce new content. I don’t have live action video of the plays yet. I was actually working on producing all of that content and more this summer but then Covid hit. I still plan to do that when I can in the future.
