- The origin of Etho's nickname: Ladders. It came from a CTM playthrough with Team Canada. This took an embarrasingly long time to find, enjoy!
...so @bdoubleo can also join in on the joke.

@@leonsonnyIM LOSING IT OVER THIS
😭😭😭😭
the fact that Ladders as his nickname was from a Team Canada episode makes Etho’s nickname even more wholesome
Very true
"What would I ever do without you, Ladders?" "...jump" had me cackling
6 months later and the "jump" part still got me
I like that the original joke is literally beef just saying "that's what they called him in college". like... it doesn't actually have a 'true' origin, beef completely invented this backstory of "well that's what they've always called him".
Yeah well, that's just a type of joke beef likes to say frequently lol.
Its a callback joke. What is funny is the ironic usage of the joke and doing it over and over.
yes and it’s even funnier if you know beef, especially old school beef made that joke with everything and everyone. but ladders stuck 💗
Yeah i adore that it started from a joke of how silly a nickname it would be for him, and that joke manifested it into reality
Epic PFP
Ladders, mum, Beef's legs. Ah Team Canada we've missed you.
They’re playing a CTM right now! Team Canada is back with the Beefter, Etho and Pause. Videos are on Beef’s channel!
@@Hiznogood this is the best of news
If someone ever rebuilt the original pair of legs from the prank on Mindcrack as a time-travel-themed prank on Beef I think I'd cry a little from nostalgia.
intro boy
I love TC series but I’m an OOGE guy call me old fashioned
its hilarious that 'Ladders' is also a charicature of an italian man from NYC for no apparent reason, its very fitting
It's a trope from Mafia media that everyone has some too on-the-nose nickname. I don't have any Italian examples off the top of my head but Krazy 8 from the breaking bad franchise would be a general example
@@DheRadman There is that guy that had a scar on his face, Scarface I think it was :)
@@0x2A_ lol good example but despite being portrayed by an Italian guy from NYC, the character is from Cuba
@@0x2A_Fun fact, Al Capone actually hated the nickname Scarface and preferred “Snorky”.
@@Blueeyesthewarrior Yes, we've all seen oversimlified's prohibition video. You're not smarter just because you watch more youtube.
My name is ladders, I go up and I go down. That is his catch phrase. Such a good bit
Etho putting ladders on a one high jump (3:09) is priceless
Drinking game: Every time they say "ladders" take a sip of water! It's important to stay hydrated!
Good idea
I'd never stop peeing again.
You had me in the first half... and then
Don’t overhydrate
You forgot “life is like ladders, sometimes you go up, sometimes you go down”
The fact that he dived immediately into the catchphrase when with Bdubs is just XDDDDDD
im grinning so hard im so glad team canada is back
I've been making "that was my nickname in college" joke for years and this made me remember i got it from Beef during the mindcrack days
I associate that with Team Canada and Rumble Tumble Game nowadays, haha.
I think it’s actually even older than this. He was pretty infamous on MindCrack as well for always having some ladders on him and stringing them across the world and his bases way back when you could place them with gaps and they would still function.
I think it was MindCrack season 2, there was a massive “king of the ladder” event in the colosseum someone built when I first remember someone bringing it up but I was VERY young and MindCrack was so long ago I’m not quite sure exactly
A lot of people think thats where it started, but that is just a well known moment where Etho is part of a ladder related thing. This is the main reason i felt like making this video and go digging for the clip. I just *knew* it came from a Team Canada moment.
It was MindCrack season 3, but for some reason when people are talking about Etho I always see people calling it season 1(It was Etho's first time on a MindCrack server, so it makes sense). Episode 10 is called "King of the Ladder" like you said. Nebris punching Etho off a ladder to (almost) build height started a game between like, six people to become King of the Ladder.
I even recall Etho being a fan of ladders and calling them "vanilla's jetpack" in an old OOGE Vinyl Fantasy II CTM episode.
I watched the origin when it first released, and years later I rewatched so much team Canada ctms trying to find it again, so glad you found it!
me too!
Isn’t it spell bound caves?
There's an etho search engine that searches video captions smoewhere
me too!
I guess Bdubs isn't a true etho girl anymore 😔
L for the etho girlies😔
Bdubs absolutely knew his nickname was ladders. Watching their scene together, bdubs reacted instantly to the mention of ladders, in a way you knew he knew. Even mentioning the third person where anyone out of the loop would think Etho was talking about the ladders themselves.
Bdubs is the most dedicated Etho fan channel on RUclips :P
@@diggoran Probably right!
@@diggoran he already knew because Etho referenced it earlier that year during stat poker: ruclips.net/video/GJxEeqCE_uQ/видео.html at about 7:22
@@diggoran there's a clip that the video didn't include where in a hermitcraft video, Bdubs has no idea and can't believe that his name is ladders. The clip in the video was a little after that
What I love most is how much ETHO seems to like the nickname. So good so wholesome thanks team Canada
Ah yes, Etho Sladders.
Thank you so much I couldn’t stop laughing the whole time. It’s funny you know, I watched this episode when it came out in 2016, and I still couldn’t remember which series I saw it in.
Ladders, Esteban and Shmoopy.
The dream team.
I need the backstories of the other two 😂
Moving vertically is a hilarious catchphrase, actually
"Ladders got some ladders for ladderself" was a clip I wished was on here
I always thought he was called "Etho's Lab" and imagined him as some kind of scientist
Aww the chemistry between these 3 is off the CHARTS 😂😂 I love Team Canada in their prime, such good memories!!!
I'm not sure if you posted this because Team Canada is back finally on Beef's channel and they mentioned "Ladders", but either way I'm happy they are back and this was a good video :)
"But ladders is for life"
Chills. up and down my spine.
I was always wondering why he is called ladders!
Thanks.
But when did the catchphrase adjustment happen? I feel like what he says most now is “I go up and I go down”, which does flow a lot better.
i think its the same series as the origin but it mightve been like the next episode or something
I love this, I wondered where exactly it came from, thank you!
Also "what would we do without you ladders?" "Jump." That was amazing
(I know I didn't quote it perfectly)
You're a real one for digging this up!!
"oh ladders, what would I ever do without you?"
"jump."
They’ve said “ladders” so much in this video that it no longer feels like a normal word.
2016... has it really been that long already?
Right? I couldve sworn ladders was from like 2013 or something not 2016. Whats worse is thats 7 years ago
Watching etho videos make you lose your perception of time. Is going to be 10 years soon...
I love this!! Thanks for making a compilation. This is the link I can give whenever someone asks about Ladders in r/ethoslab from now on haha
I’m afraid you missed a reference in Double Life… and then Cleo reacting to it on a livestream.
I don’t know if I can link anything here so I’ll just put the twitch code. You can open any twitch clip link and replace the text with the following:
ShortPlacidRutabagaResidentSleeper-wz8lHydPG51AdmQC
Cheers!
Oh i'm quite confident there are quite a few "ladders" references that are not included. I quite clearly remember the exact phrase "eh, ladders. I go up and I go down" and I didn't hear that in this video at all.
@@reaganharder1480 It would be a Herculean task to track down every last reference, but yeah I was expecting to see that exact phrase because it's come up multiple times. A great compilation nonetheless!
OMG You know what? One of the first things I've seen from Etho was actually him in Team Canada in that CTM playthrough! So by coincidence I was introduced to him (his content) right when he got his Ladders nickname! In my memory he'd say "Ey! I'm Ladders, I go up and I go down" but it seems it was a little bit different. Heh, memories.
Thanks for this trip down memory lane, was fun!
Also, 2016, now I feel old.
My favorite part about this is that if you asked me a year ago, I coulda told you exactly where Ladders came from. I've watched like every etho video ever
I vaguely remember Beef having this recurring joke about nicknames in college lol. Thanks for bringing this fond memory back
"Ayy Ladders!" has always been common vernacular for me because of Etho.
Some people are lads, but Etho's Ladder.
Ladders what a classic! I remember when that episode was posted all those years ago. Good times.
EH LADDERS! I go up and I go down
That reminded me of the great "King of the ladder" event on the MindCrack SMP 11 years ago.
Still one of the most laughs I ever had in a single video
A real classic.
Pretty sure that's the true origin of this whole ladder thing.
@@Krucifus I thought it came from a team Canada episode in a CTM map
Having 'up up and away' as a catchphrase for taking off
And 'you're going down' for starting PVP
Would be fitting.
Now all that I need is a compilation/origin story of beef being mom lol
12 minutes into Beef’s episode 3 video of Ruins of the Mindcracker’s is where that started lol
@@ayyycortana7196 lol I started binging all of the team Canada ctms and am like 120 ish episodes into the playlist :D I completely forgot about this clip, and actually like just watched the episode that this came from yesterday!
“Ladders” doesn’t even feel like a word anymore.
‘What would I ever do with out you?’
‘Jump’ xD I love them
The fact that beef is involved makes this even better.
“what would i ever do without ya ladders?” “jump”
Ever since that episode all those years ago, every time I see a ladder, I think back at this.
This brings back so many memories, thank you so much for bringing it back to memory.
Glad the team canada had a new series going on though
With Beef n Pause, gettin Team Canada back together!
Don't forget Etho practices his ladderin when he is resource gatherin...
The "LA" in EthosLAb is for ladders
I remember that early Team Canada episode now that I see it again years after. The brain is weird.
The fact that I watched Beef’s videos in 2016 but didn’t find Etho until 2 years later when Grian joined Hermitcraft makes me sad
I'd completely forgotten about that gag! The Kaizo Serieses were great!
A ladder is a vanilla jet pack.
"Ladders" was said so many times that it doesn't sound like a real word anymore
"things are lookin up for ladders" is an awful joke and i love it.
bro i remember watching this way back in the day
- What would I ever do without you, Ladders?
- Jump ...
The best part of ladders I recall was at the minecrack server when they randomly came up with a king of ladder game
I only just realised on a rewatch that Etho remembered rhe "I go up and down" line
I was looking for this for so long! Thank you for doing the research that I wasn't determined enough to complete
Ladders doesn’t sound like a word anymore
Brought back so many memories. We love Ladders
VintageBeef is so underrated funny.
Thank you so much for researching this and sharing AND especially for sharing the links!!
Thank you for this much needed history lesson.
I remember watching all those videos back then, the nostalgia is real with these clips. So entertaining those three. Ladders.
Eh, ladders. I go up and I go down.
Hey it's Ladders he goes up he goes down
I remember when you could have a space between ladders. Saved a lot of ladders so you could climb higher.
Thanks for this origin story, and your hard work, I was wondering about it as well
I miss pause unpause. Cool dude
"It was his nickname in college."
We have to go deeper, we need a flashback to the college scene.
Ladders no longer sounds like a word
I remember this like it was yesterday! Thanks for sharing it again!
Thank you for this! I tried looking for clips myself and failed
Up and down, Ladder's in town!
Great edit! All in one place for history lessons!
This infomercial provided by the church of ladders-day Saints
i thought it had something to do with then they were playing king of the ladder or whatever it's called on mindcrack
Ayy, I go up and I go down
So glad you edited this LOL people need to KNOW!
This is actually so nostalgic for me. I remember watching the original episode when the nickname was created.
I thought it was from mindcrack season 1 episode 10 where team canada was cleaning up the prank on guude
i cant believe i watched all those old clip back when they were fresh videos
Love the channel name
Lol, thanks for putting this history moment together haha 😂 really nice to see this 👍
The fact he only has this name is coz he was the only one to happen to have spear ladders on him 1 time 😂😂
Thank you, this made me happy 🤗 🥰
Interesting, I've assumed it came from Mindcrack episode 10 for Etho, King of the Ladder, back in 2012.
This is actually the reason why i made this video. I saw this assumption being made a LOT.
Oh dude! Thank you for this! I've always wanted to know the origin of it! So happy it was from team canada!
I go up and i go down!
Sounds like I have to rewatch the series!
It has its ups and its downs.
You deserve my sub in respect to my Sensei! 😂
Great job 👍
Dude I remeber this omg, this was so long ago lol
