I use wooden wedges I cut them on a bandsaw I find them to have more grip and stay in the log without vibrating out , keep up the good work 👍

Beautiful wood in that log. The piece of equipment you seem to really need is a quality hand held metal detector. Even with the nails and staining, walnut is the king of N American hardwood. Beautiful!
Definitely could use one of those! Will be looking into getting one for next time and I agree! I love working with walnut both turning and just general woodworking, its just such an all around great wood to work with.

Andrew, awesome video! Glad to see what you went through, (not in a bad way, just showcasing the struggles) including the damn heat! I don't know how you folks can even breath in that humidity. I like finding staining in the wood like that, yes its hell on chains but it certainly adds to character. I made wood wedges to keep behind and move my nylon wedges forward. You don't have to hammer them in, just push them in next to the nylon, tap the wood to release the nylon, I'm cheap and I always have scraps laying around. Honestly instead of paying 1200 to 1600 for a new power head, I think that saw will handle that bar fine, it just takes more out of you and longer time. Time is money so I greatly understand, especially when that heat is beating down on ya!! Thank you Sir for sharing another fantastic video. You certainly can't go wrong with walnut!! But yeah, when I initially filmed the first day I considered not even posting it since it didnt work out but I think people need to share & see moments like this where things dont always go to plan. and I dont know why I didnt even think about making my own, especially the first day of cutting lol Wouldve been nice to have a handful more! And I agree, I really think the saw wouldve done the entire log just fine but I think the big issue was the nails and dealing with that was just getting really frustrating plus the heat wasn't helping lol but thanks again for the kind words Joe!
@andrewmccarn anytime Andrew! I would love to have a project go as planned, but it seems like I'm always shifting on the fly. It keeps us on our toes and our creative juices flowing! I have had accidents and failures turn into some of my best pieces. Character, and style becomes you. You got this!! Good or perfect doesn't come without trial and errors. I like what you do, and so does anyone else who gets to see your videos . I hope you never stop pursuing your talent and art!
Great video. I've always wanted a bandsaw mill and I doubt that will ever happen. I do have a granberg milling attachment and an 066 so don't feel too sorry for me.😂 Never used the granberg so I'm going to be along for ride.
Thats my dream as well! I recommend looking into Woodland mills, as far as bandsaw mills go they seem to be really capable and affordable. Its what I probably would get IF I ever get one lol and I looked up the 066 and that seems like a great saw for milling!
It's hard on your saw running that hard in hot weather. Great video though, really enjoy all your content.
Yeah I could tell pretty quickly this was going to really be a strain on the saw, was still impressed with it though for how big the log was! and thank you!

I’m just wondering if something like a Harbor Freight gas powered mill or Grizzly Electric mill would be more effective for what you’re doing? I don’t know. Just a thought.
My dream is to eventually have a gas powered bandsaw mill one day. I have been looking into a Woodland Mill saw and if I could figure out a way to move logs around to load them on then I probably would invest in one! I am sure my neighbors would love that too haha
Thats the same saw I have, I figured Id have to buy a 661 to do milling like that. Do you use a different chain for slabbing?
Its a great saw! And I do, I use the granberg ripping chain. Its a fantastic chain
Curiois how long it took just to saw each individual slab.
Those pully ropes need to be reversed.the winder needs to be on the machine side.so you don't reach over .then they are side by side with the engine.

Buy a portable, collapsible gazebo to protect you from the sun.
I have one from when I use to do craft shows, not sure why I didnt think of that lol Ill be keeping that in mind next time!
