I do this, not just with characters, but also with different subgenres. I'm a fan of so many subgenres. Some days I'm feeling Steampunk and other days I'm in a Ouji-Loli mood. Although if I like a new outfit combination that I've made, I end up wearing it for a week, haha.
I really love the idea of making outfits based on characters! Also, you're one of very few Americans I've encountered who actually seem aware of/acknowledge the fact that it's much easier to find stuff in America than in many (if not most) other countries.
+KreeZafi I've had quite a few of my watchers from other countries comment about it (and I do read all the comments) as well as I've been to other countries and experienced the limited availability of alternative clothing.
I don't tend to wear outfits based /directly/ off a character, but I do tend to pick a character type for the day - maybe I'll want to be a vampire dandy aristocrat, or be a medieval/high fantasy inspired forest witch, or whatever, and I might take inspirations from certain characters, but only in elements. It's fun mixing and matching things :) I love the costume designs for a lot of fantasy/sci-fi villains, so I think that's probably where a lot of my inspiration when it comes to /character/ influences come from. Silver wigs are probably my most character-inspired pieces; so many characters from Sephiroth from Final Fantasy to Daenerys Targaryen have funky silver hair, and that's definitely something that has inspired me.
I have to say Complete ditto on this. it makes me happy to see that other people have these ideas. I have a certain outfit from when I was 9 based off Sarah, and tend to look at princess Lily as channeling character as well as Dave Vanian. I've often in the last year or 2 been basing my outfits off Michelle and Radu from the Subspecies movies.
Even though I don't dress that alternative, you had really good pointers in this video, and I was needing them since I've fallen into a style routine. I do wish there were more thrift stores and second hand stores in my country. I've gotten the impression that dressing alternative here is more expensive than not. Sometimes you will find something cheap and unique but that's cheer luck, I wouldn't even know where to begin looking. Most of the "alternative" things I've seen are either from stores related to international companies or small boutiques who order I assume from "alternative" more or less known brands and price a little above average. But maybe I'm just totally oblivious, I don't know.
I'm actually fashion inspired by Ingrid from Young Dracula. Her character may only have been 15 (she was about 17 at the time) but her style is like soooo on point! And I get my hair ideas from Misa Amane from Death Note.
Finally I've been searching for a smart girl with great gothic style on youtube, and I stumble on to this! Excellent vid, and I agree with you - research can be fun, I'd do it for a living if I could.
"You can wear a fucking dress. Gender's stupid." That's pretty much my motto! I AM a guy who wears dresses!
I agree totally.

Are you a fan or have seen the Penny Dreadful tv series? (speaking of Dorian Grey)
The Electrocist A couple episodes. I like it, I just don't really have the means to keep up with it.
For me, when in doubt, I dress like Ash from Evil Dead. Denim button-down. Brown corduroys. Black accessories.
see i used to dress like a character off a movie or show then i just lost interest, but you look good for that type of style
Now that I have a Roku I can watch you on my TV like your channel is a show. :-)
Recently I've had an itch to dress like Door from Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. Next thing I know, I'll be talking to rats..
Miss Dimebag Steele I've had many occasions where I get inspired to dress like Door. And the Marqius.
