Full-time RVer here. I was in the competition bbq circuit for a while. Try putting your protein in a foil pan. You will keep your smoker clean, and you’ll never notice the difference.
I own one and you did a very honest review. Your right about the cord. It’s worth the extra attention. Thank you for doing this. I can forward this to some of my friends who are on the fence. This was a good.
This is one of the best smoker reviews I've watched, and I've watched many. Thanks for taking the time to make it. Your comment about cleaning is spot on. I don't have a pellet grill yet-this one is top of the list and why I watched-but I use drip pans and clean all of my cookers every time either that day or the next so they are ready to go for the next cook. I never start a cook with grease from the old one.
Great video, we love our smoke as well. We have the issue with the plug but we contacted GMG and they sent us a better cord. It has a better spring to hold in the plug. They also said to by pass the start up if it gets unplugged is to hit the on button to turn the smoker on. Then you hold the on and up button at the same time. They said the second start up will burn out the igniter faster.
Contrary to popular belief you can CLEAN the smoker ;-) I use the outdoor shower on our motorhome and a small spray bottle of diluted dish soap to clean it a couple of times a year. Makes a big difference in cleanliness. I agree the 12 plug is a PITA.
We got our smoker a few weeks ago! We LOVE it. We use it almost everyday instead of the RV oven. Love that is barely takes any electricity since we boondock all the time. I even made a pie in it. And we did get the pizza oven as well thanks to your IG and Rebekah’s recommendation. Our little girl thinks it’s the coolest thing ever.
My wife just bought us a Green Mountain smoker (bought me one) as a Christmas gift and I’m currently building a smoker cart/stand for it before I use it. That said, I’ve never used one and was a little nervous about cooking on it, but having seen your video I’m definitely feeling more at ease. Great information and thank you for the video!
Yup, we carried that same smoker for a couple years and I really liked it. Diane on the other hand Diane does not like smoked meat and even when I BBQed at higher heat she claimed she could taste he smoke so I finally gave up and went with a 2 burner Camp Chef. I had fun with that smoker however, even made cakes in it. I loved that you could get he temp high enough o sear a steak, something you can't do in some smokers.
I made my decision before the holidays to get this grill based on you previously recommending. This was a good video to answer my questions as a new user. Thanks so much. My first ribs came out perfect and we love it.
I have seen where many people have had trouble with the plugs. In all cases the customer was sent a new cord on which are plugs with "arms" that stick out farther and thus maintain constant contact. Get in touch with their customer service whose reputation is fantastic. Good luck and happy smokn
Swap out the outlet to an anderson connector, way more heavy duty and used for winches. It has a bolt mounting hole on the side to mount the connector to the back wall.
Great review! I think this will fit what we’re looking for. I think it’s AC/DC power capabilities and size are a perfect combination and are a much better design than any other offerings.
@@AdventureEndeavor I just picked up a good used one tonight, however its missing the ac converter. I bought it mainly to use when my familly & I go on kayak fishing trips. Thanks again for the informative video!
Just watched a video on this smoker and apparently the power chord is a common issue. You can contact Green Mountain and they apparently will send you a new and improved chord. It is just the 2 little metal wings on the plug in don't stick out enough. They make a new chord where those 2 wings stick out further which solves your power issues.
Great video. We also have the GMG Davey crockett for our 5th wheel. We are not full time, but it comes with us on every trip and love the power options as well. I couldn't agree more about the power attachment being very sensitive but, like you, we have learned to deal with it. I have a Traeger Pro 780 for home and aside from a size difference, they are both great smokers. Thanks again for the videos!

I'm still not sure if that is something I want. You did a great job of showing it, that is for sure. A year of use makes this the one people should watch. I think the size is going to keep it off of our list of needs. ❤️👍👏 Donovan & Jodi
Thank you for your review and video. I just picked up a GM Davy Crockett smoker at a garage sale that was in perfect condition. Saw your video while doing some research on the smoker. It looks like GMG sold the Davy Crockett with different types of drip pans. The one you have is a solid one piece without holes. The one that came with mine is a two piece with holes. I saw another video review and he had the two pieces. He said that if you want more smoke to line up the holes and if you want indirect cooking close off the holes. Do you or anyone else have thoughts on this? Thanks.
That's awesome! So glad you enjoyed the video. I have not seen a model with the two-piece drip pan that you speak of. But allowing more smoke to come through would allow for smokier meat. We have not had any issue with ours whatsoever. The meat always has a great smoke ring and flavor. Thanks for watching, feel free to subscribe, it's free!
@@AdventureEndeavor I found a video on GMG website where they show and explain the two piece drip pan. I started out years ago with a charcoal smoker, then an electric. This is the first pellet and I'm really stoked to do my first Boston Butt this weekend!

Appreciate this 'real world' review. Looking for something to take with us to round out the outdoor kitchen (Blackstone 17 is the only tool right now) and a small smoker is what I want. Looking at a Pit Boss 260 and the GMG Davy(or whatever they are calling it now). My need is for the smoker to fit below the rails of our truck (have a 5th wheel also, but the basement is full). When your Davy is in the bag - will it fit below the rails of your truck? My want is to be able to smoke more than 1 meat at a time - ribs and sausage or a small bird and ribs or whatever. With that neat shelf, I can see how multiple ribs is very doable, but if you were maxing out the surface area, how much meat could you get into it ?
Hey we really like this smoker, we can fit 4 small racks of ribs if needed. Also I THINK it will fit under the bed rail but it will be close. Hopefully this helps.
