In the desert regions of the South, global warming is causing frequent droughts, and water is becoming increasingly scarce. As a result, sand is gaining ground, threatening homes, and ecosystems are deteriorating. On the Mediterranean coasts, other serious problems are emerging. Mass tourism has led to the construction of real estate and hotel complexes right on the beach, in disregard of basic environmental rules. And the coastline continues to deteriorate.
