- I had plans of taking an admin day by staying home, researching more job opportunities, and spending time with the wife. I had one catering order scheduled with Dlivrd at 11am. My plans changed when I received a Dispatch order on the way home. I also share my thoughts about what I would have done differently now that I'm 4 months into my cargo van business. I am active on 5 apps. I rank my top 5 apps in this video.

I'm trying to get a van vetween 5 to 8k. Kinda strapped at the moment and work fulltime...😔
Tough decisions, do what you can, just know the older the van, the more risk. You definitely need the van on the road and not in the shop. Hope you can find something that works, Best wishes to you 👍🏾
When I;w@s married I use to bring bring my son and wife with me. He loved being with me and my wife use to love to try and eat the order
So, with the expenses you stated, insurance is included, correct? And what about vehicle depreciation, are you taking that into account? What about taxes, are you allocating monies for taxes that you will need to pay as an independent contractor? Continued success with your business Big CJ!!
Explained in today's post 👍🏾
I want to get started but I have a lot of traffic tickets on my driving record
Yea getting started is one of the hardest obstacles. Well if the gig apps give you trouble because of that, you can always try to get a contract with a company directly or work under someone else's authority. I think most gig apps only look at the last 3 years. Best wishes to you 👍🏾
Yo brotha I’m also a San Antonio transplant from up north. I’m also a Tasker and trying to get off into what you’re doin. School a brotha
Nice, tasker is a great way to get some good paying jobs. You see the recipe, keep doing what your doing 👍🏾
Aye man.... Get to it bro
👍🏾
Thank you for the
No prob
Great video. How did you find out you could request reimbursement for them wasting your time or waiting?
By watching other RUclips channels 👍🏾
@@BigCJCargoVan ah ok. Ty! Your videos are very informative and gives us the real day in the life.
Frayt need to upgrade their app, same spam vanishing loads here in ATL also...
I hate Frayt, I'm ready to just uninstall and be done with it. I read the reviews, so many 1 star reviews.
Hello! I am from Alabama. I have been wanting to sign up for Frayt so bad. There aren't many bigger paying apps here but we do have the food apps... and dispatch is available 30min away from me. Is Frayt with signing up for? I'm on with Spark, Dlivrd, DeliverThat, Roadie, And all the other food ones!
Love your video's brother do you need and llc for those apps
No, you can do the apps as an independent contractor only, nothing needed.
@BigCJCargoVan ok thank you brother
Hello would you perfer commerical or regular insurance to do local gigs?
I always recommend commercial. It's based on your state laws, but for me, Texas requires couriers to have commercial insurance even tho gig apps don't require it. You risk not being covered in an accident if you have regular personnel insurance.
Careful rollin’ thru them stop signs….
California roll.....👍🏾
Hey sir I’m a retired veteran looking to do what you’re doing from the ground up in San Antonio. Any way, I can pick your brain and get your assistance getting started?
Please shoot me an email at CargoVanBusinessBoss@gmail.com
One thing I do not understand you said in the first two weeks of OTR you never won a bid ? What does it mean ? You could not find a long haul bid for two weeks ?? Thank you
I was with a dispatching company and I had the 1 million dollar policy. They were sending me loads and I would bid with my rate, I could never win a load. I did not like having the million dollar policy so I gave up after 2 weeks. Plenty of loads, just never won a load.
What cargo you prefer? low roof, mid or high? 150,250 on Ford, Promaster for gigs?
Honestly I love the Ford 250. If I was doing OTR, I would get a Ford 350 extended with the high roof. If I could afford it. Medium roof is good too. I don't like the low roof, but I know they are cheaper. Medium roof Ford is my preference for gig apps only
@BigCJCargoVan I was thinking the same. Thanks for responding, I'm learning alot more from your channel.
What about short wheel base vs long wheel base? Seems like the SWB would be much easier to park in a urban area dropping off a load.
Have you looked at the owner operator jobs through indeed?
Yes, signed up with my very 1st dispatching company from Indeed.
Long distance or gig apps, age / mileage of trucks makes no difference as long as the truck was properly maintained And you continue to properly maintain it. With more miles you have to factor in okay things have probably broken already and guess what they've been fixed, and those same things will eventually break on your newer vehicle. Many newer lower mileage vehicles have been abused more than older ones with higher miles. It could go both ways with the newer vehicle everything may seem fine but there are some parts, sometimes many, at or very near the point of breaking. And let's say a vehicle with 50 or 80K more miles has already had all of those issues fixed and possibly has even been better maintained. Either way is neither right or wrong, just comes down to at some point if you keep either one long enough you pretty much put the same amount of money into it at some point
Appreciate all this info 👍🏾
@@BigCJCargoVanso you went and got your Authority, established yourself as a carrier, but the overhead didn't line up with the profit coming in with gig apps, which you could do without Authority and commercial Insurance, correct?
Do you need a special license? Or LLC to do this. Or can you just buy a van download the app and just start rolling?
No special requirements, no LLC needed, just buy a van and go
I just got 2010 Honda CR-V what Gig Apps are good for this type of vehicle
All depends on where you live and how your market is. You could do car and mid-sized orders. Pretty much all the apps have orders for you. I'd sign up for everything. Dispatch, Frayt etc, you can also be a helper on apps like Dolly and Goshare. Some apps require your vehicle to be less then 10 years old tho
@@BigCJCargoVan I'm in in Greenville south Carolina and I'm going to download the apps tonight thanks brother
Are you going to invest in more vans inorder to hire?
That's my goal. Soon as mine is paid off, I will be purchasing another one. I would like a fleet of 3 to 4
Good day Big CJ, where’s a nice area in San Antonio to live at?
I live on the far west, very nice. I love Stone Oak, Anywhere off Patranco Road or City of Helotes. If you want to move farther away from the city more country like areas, Bulverde is my favorite, Spring Branch, Boerne and Kerrville are some of my favorite areas. New Braunfels is nice as well.
@@BigCJCargoVan Thank you, I’m a city kid, I’m in between Vegas n Brooklyn
I enjoy driving, even though I’m on SS, in my early 50’s , Im enjoying being home w/the family but I still want to do something productive n show my kids you can still doing something
Would you have still bought the same size of van or something smaller?
I could do a low roof, those are cheaper. I probably would still look for a medium roof tho, 250. Promaster or Ford, preferably a Ford
@@BigCJCargoVan thanks Big CJ 💯
Can I use a rental cargo van for gig apps?
Yes, on some but not all of them
What do you do for passive income?
I get military benefits. I am working on several streams of passive income investments that I will share on my channel when I try them out.
$136 total on how much gas? about 5 gallons = about $20?
I'd have to look at that video again. That was a low earning day, but gas expenses are not too bad where I live. About $2.90 per gallon.
Do you think I really need a cargo van to do this or could I use my regular van? Lol
You do not need a cargo van. Most of these apps allow all size vehicles. The bigger the vehicle, the higher the pay.
Thank you appreciate your response
Do you have to have special insurance or special anything to work gig apps?
No, regular insurance, nothing special, no LLC, no authority, you can sign up just as an independent contractor
@@BigCJCargoVan thanks bro! You're killing it out there. Any suggestions on cargo van rental companies?
Can you still do this with a bad driving record?
Not sure, every app has their limits, most I believe allow up to 3 moving violations in past 2 or 3 years.
Would low roof cargo work for gig apps
Yes, any size vehicle. The bigger the more money but any size works
Have you started hiring other drivers yet
No, I don't have plans of hiring anyone until I purchase another vehicle, and I am ready to increase my insurance to the 1 million dollar policy so my 1st driver can go OTR
So San Antonio is a good spot?
I think it's pretty busy, enough to reach my daily goal.
Do you need your own authority to start doing gig apps?
No special requirements
My friend is gridewise a paying app?
No it's free to download and it's the best way to track everything from earnings, gas mileage, expense, work hours, everything. You can also download your mileage deduction at the end of the year for tax purposes.
What do you mean you never pay your van loan?
I get 1k passive income every month helps pay my van loan and insurance
lmaooo called him Demar Derozan
I did a double take, I should have zoomed in more, he looked just like him 🤣
Curri better than them all
I wanted curri when I first started. My market is full so no go for me.
