@ Lovely Greens its either a huneysuckle, clematis or trumpet flower. you can by trellis s or you can make your own from just sticks found in your yard.
Looking good! Just a quick tip on the climbing roses - if you allow the rose canes to head straight for the top of the arch, you will only get flowers on the top - as the branches get horizontal over the top. So to encourage flowering all the way up, the branches need to be trained to spiral around the frame. The more near the horizontal the branches, the more vertical shoots bearing flowers! I know this dramatics slows the rate at which the arch is covered, but in the long run, it will look so much better. Love your channel, regards Martin.
Garden is looking amazing Tanya. The David Austin roses are doing really well too, it won't be long before they reach the top of that arbour. I bet you can't wait to finish the patio area. it will be a great place to relax. Great video again.
Definitely :) I tied the roses in this morning and I'm using a new (to me) type of setting sand for in between the pavers later today. Isn't it so nice to work outside in this great weather?
I think I have a better idea for getting your peas out of the gutter. Half fill the gutter, run a couple lines of salsa twine the length of the gutter, then finish filling it up and plant the peas. When times comes to plant them, tie the twine to a spike. Since the roots will be grown around the twine, it should help to pull the row of peas out with the soil.
Enjoyed your video. I would move the honey suckle, especially since it blocks a window. I think I would move it. It will be a challenge wrestling it out of there. Those roots (possibly) will try to regenerate if any get left behind.
The more I ponder this, I come to the same conclusion as you. I've gone back and looked at old photos of the house when we bought it. I'm not sure I'm a huge fan of the honeysuckle, even though the fragrance would be lovely.
🌿🌺🌿Here in Chicagoland I use clear fishing line for my honeysuckle and other climbers. Run it laterally along the fence and the honeysuckle will grab on. Best part is you can change it up next year for something else if you don’t like the look.... and the expense is minimal. I use fishing line all over to train vines to go where I want them.🌿🌺🌿
The honeysuckle will be so alluring on an evening throughout summer, I can just imagine the evening scent drifting down to your seating area. Give it a wigwam to grow up and train it over the summer x
I enjoy your videos so much! I went to the garden centre too today and bought a tonne of soil for my raised beds at my allotment 😁👌. Finally got my hands on some lemon balm and Lavender. Looking forward to seeing how the tomatoes come along.
The only issue is the light really. Honeysuckle likes to grow up, and every photo I've seen of it growing on a fence shows it very bushy and climbing all over itself to get up higher. I have a feeling that I'll have to move it.
Wow, things are looking fantastic. How fun that you discovered lilacs! I love them so much! Thanks for sharing your life and garden with us. Take care and blessings. 💗
Hello. I think your Clematis might be known as the President . A grand Clematis is Clematis odourata that has a strong vanilla esscence ..great vid . Stem of tomatoes will tint purple if you attempt to harden off in the cold too quickly yup.
Wonderful surprises to discover the lilacs and clematis. It is all looking great. I have a few David Austin roses, but not Generous Gardener so can't wait to see how it does. I ordered most of my seed from Baker Creek and am also interested to see how your corn does. I didn't get my raised beds filled, so am not planting most of mine. I had also ordered melons, choosing the earlier varieties, just to see if they could work here. Maybe next year. I love your hoops. One of my challenges are deer and if I could find such large hoops I wonder if that would help. Would you please link them? I don't know if they would ship here, but even just seeing the specs might help me find something comparable. Why not just train the honeysuckle on the fence that is there? Thanks!
Hi Gayla -- the hoops and netting come from this website bit.ly/2GT0otq but they're in the UK so probably not able to ship to you? I'm not sure how they'd do with deer -- is there a way of constructing a fence all around your beds? Check out Erin (Impatient Gardener)'s setup for inspiration: ruclips.net/video/L16Yuy76KTg/видео.html
I find it easier to get the peas out of the drainpipe by putting my hand down into the compost about every foot and pushing them out that way.I had problems getting them out too but this way I have had no problems.
Your roses are looking good, a trick to getting more roses you can cross the canes of your roses sideways will develop more canes vertical and each cane will give you more roses. As your canes get longer cross them back the other way and you will get more roses from each cross you make. In 2 years you will have roses all around your arbor.
Im visiting the island from Thursday this week for 5 days. Will keep an eye out for you .... And if i see you ..... Im sure our common passion for bee keeping would be discussed. Keep up the good work. Paul from Sheffield.
Hi Tanya , thanks so much for sharing your garden , I learn quite a bit from you . My country Sri Lanka is a tropical island. I hope to grow some more veggies. I’m moving to port Melbourne Australia soon so hopefully I can start gardening again .tanya where are you from ?
Tanya I lived there three months on holiday Melbourne is super awesome. Can’t wait to go back and the garden started depending where hubby moves lol lol. Please if it’s not much to ask how could i email you to ask advice on growing stuff once I get there .
Plantaholic...definitely :) The calendula variety is called Erfurter Orangefarbige and you can read a bit more about it in this piece: lovelygreens.com/use-calendula-flowers-skin-salve-skincare/
It takes some time for the shiitakes...with the big log it might not fruit for a year or two. I have a smaller small too though and hope to get a crop off it at the end of the summer. Fingers crossed :)
thank you for the backyard update...the patio looks wonderful...love the furniture...the yard is looking lush with growth and surprises (lilacs) are always sweet...the greenhouse looks nice with the sun pouring in...you did a great job with cleaning that glass last year...am curious if your mushroom log ever sprouted (or is it not time yet?)...anyway, thanks again and enjoy the beautiful weather...
It takes some time for the mushrooms to fruit...with that big log it could be years. Patience is a virtue :) I have a smaller branch (6" diameter) also planted with shiitake plugs so hope it will crop a bit earlier. Enjoy the beautiful weather too Barb :)
Hi Tanya, lovely video as ever. Just thought id say about your brasicias in your greenhouse. I find that growing them there they get a bit leggy. So i always put them in a coldframe. Thanks Richard
The honeysuckle could also go horizontally instead of vertically. I’ve had good luck training them sideways. Just an idea. Looks like a Jackmani clematis.
I love your videos (new subscriber)! What a beautiful space you're creating! I'm rather new to gardening and have a bunch of tomato plants this year as well--none have any noticeable issues yet but I was wondering what the "solution" was for your tomatoes? Was it as simple as pinching the leaves off, or did you have to amend the soil with something? Also, I'd like to ask which company you bought the hard-to-find calendula seeds from XD Thank You in advance :)
The calendula variety is called Erfurter Orangefarbige and it's easier to get in some regions than others. As for the tomatoes, I potted them up into larger pots with new compost, picked all the damaged leaves off, and kept them warm. They've perked up, thank goodness. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the upcoming tomato video too Mary :)
If you water the guttering really well, they just slide out. I made the mistake of using 3 metre lengths as did not want to cut..as want to use the guttering on the shed, to collect rain but then could not lift them. Bit dumb. Had to take the peas out in sections. The garden is looking lovely, such a difference. I bought the aluminium hoops, a really good investment. I have discovered that if I need higher, bamboo canes fit inside, saves buying the extension tubes.
Someone else mentioned the watering. 3 metre long...that must have been a challenge. As for mine, it was very well watered. It may be that the peas roots had hit the bottom and were causing drag. I’ll be cutting that guttering down next year into 3 sections just in case :)
I am growing calendula but didn't know their is a different medicinal variety. What is the variety name? The garden looks beautiful! Happy for you that your tomatoes survived. Looking forward to your tomato series. Take care!
Elizabeth Myers the medicinal variety is called Calendula officinalis. Herbs with the term officinalis are the original herbs used for medicinal purposes dating back to Hildegard von Bingen.
Hi Elizabeth, the variety of calendula I'm growing this year is called Erfurter Orangefarbige. There are dozens of varieties of calendula officinalis but this one has the highest resin content of them all.

I really enjoyed your video. Lilacs remind me of being in my grandmothers yard too. 🙂🌿 Thanks for the info links on Calendula. I buy homemade calendula soap but i want to grow my own as well and try to make my own skin products. My grandmother was in Austria. I loved the cute hedgehog info. Where are you located? How much sun does your greenhouse get and its orientation? Thank you!
Yes that's a honeysuckle next to your white fence. It will grow along top of that fence if you install some bird netting or something. I found some what netting at lowes. Order online at Lowes.com

@ Lovely Greens its either a huneysuckle, clematis or trumpet flower. you can by trellis s or you can make your own from just sticks found in your yard.
I think the plan now is to gift the clematis to a friend. It's just not in the right spot and my pal has the perfect one for it :)
Looking good! hi-value tips on nettings
hi, I'm new friend, I love plants too, thanks for sharing ^^
what about trellising along the fence? you could put that wire along the top of the fence, that people often use for vining plants.
if you use raw mulch (large woodchip) the cats will stop pooping in your garden bed. I had the same issue and it got solved once I mulched.
W P can you please tell our cat that so she knows to stop. ;)
Maybe you could staple some chicken wire or similar product along the inside of the fence for the honeysuckle tendrils to grab on to 🤷🏻♀️
They seem to want to go up though so I wonder if it's going to be a struggle getting them to climb horizontally?
Great work. Always amazed by all you do. Love to see the cosmos when blooming. Do you have lupine naturally over there?
They are stunning at the end of the summer :) I don't think lupines (called lupins here) are native but they are popular garden plants.
You need to make a video on wrapping the netting around your beds! I have the same problem as you but with my puppy :/
Puppies are another matter...they'll jump into anything, even netting.
Love the garden, very similar to mine...or how mine is going to look. I hope!
Yes that's a honeysuckle next to your white fence. It will grow along top of that fence if you install some bird netting or something. I found some what netting at lowes. Order online at Lowes.com

Honeysuckle is really invasive.
It is in some areas of the world. Here rhododendrons are very invasive.
Just remember one thing with cosmos, once you get it into your garden, you never get it out of it. I love them, but theyre all over my garden every year xd so I have to keep them in place
If they're deadheaded before seed heads form it's alright :) I'm growing the Dazzler variety again this year -- really pretty magenta flowers.

Could you train the vining plant down the fence that it is growing on? Just a thought. This is a beautiful video of your gardens.
Thanks for the suggestion. Everything I've been reading shows them wanting to climb up so it may be a challenge.
Could be clematis Diamantina? Google it as looks very similar Jo 😀 UK
