    13:45 A small tip. Don't put the weight of the pack on your shoulders and use the waist strap to keep the pack close to your body. It's the other way around really. The waist strap is there to take the most weight and transfer it to the strongest muscles of your body. Your legs. The shoulder straps are to keep the pack close.
    The proper technique for the waist strap for hauling heavy packs is:
    Get the pack on your shoulders.
    Clip the waist strap around your waist.
    Loosen the shoulder straps a bit so like 70% of the weight of the pack goes onto your hips.
    Adjust the shoulder straps, maybe a bit tighter and loosen and pull on the little straps on top of your shoulder straps to pull the pack in tighter to your upper body.
    Get comfortable adjusting your waist- and shoulder straps. You might want to adjust it while walking. And repeat this every time you repacked your bag. There's no 1 set up that is perfect. Keep following these steps and keep adjusting your pack. 👍

    • @Mart687
      @Mart687 3 года назад +1

      25:30 There is a waterblatter option in the pack. Water is heavy and you want the heavy stuff high up in the pack when packing and as close to your body as possible. Then you won't need a waterbottle pocket on the side. It's a true modular pack. For a hike in the woods you can put a first aid kit on the outside or other pouches. When going to the supermarket, you don't need a first aid kit and take it off. This is what makes a modular system so very versatile.

      Ha ha ha... A month or so after this I was watching another channel and was 'today years old when I learned' I was using the waist/shoulder ratio the wrong way round. I've been doing some weighted walks with the Mission and seen the error of my ways.

    • @MoorlanderEDC
      @MoorlanderEDC  3 года назад +1

      I think at the time I'd been looking at similar packs like the Switchblade from Eberlestock and the Ibex 26 from Vanquest Gear. They both have a zipped slip pocket that runs the vertical length of the pack or a side dump pocket. The 5.11 Rush 24 has similar. Great for travelling when quick access to maps, drinks etc. Think it's more of an EDC want, but you're dead right. This pack has so many options for adding whatever needed to the side 👍

    • @Mart687
      @Mart687 3 года назад +2

      @@MoorlanderEDC This shoulder to waist ratio was explained by my instructors in the army. And i think it's a common mistake. We were hauling a berghaus vulcan cyclops 2 100 liter pack with 2 daypacks of 10 liters on the sides so a 120 liter pack 38kg dry weight. Dry weight as in if all your gear is wet in your backpack, it probably weights like 20% more.
      It matters more when you are hauling a huge heavy 120 liter pack then a 30 liter pack. The basics are the same. The weight is supposed to be on your hips supported by your legs and not your shoulders and this will make a serious difference even with a smaller pack.

    Where you put a hydration bladder if you wanted to?
    The bag has two holes on the side, but is there space for a bladder?
    In the back with the white foam?

    • @MoorlanderEDC
      @MoorlanderEDC  4 года назад

      Hi GBA, yes, as far as I'm aware it should do. The Pathfinder water bottle bag needs 2 or 3 columns and 7 rows of pals webbing. The side of the Modular 30 has exactly that amount so you'll be all good. Stay safe and well

      Strictly speaking, yeah you can fit it on but the built in molle clips are 5 columns apart, so it you have some quick clips they'll fit. You're best bet are the Tac Pouch 8s. They fit perfectly. The Tac 8s are my most fav pouch. I find with them being nice and fall, it makes them even more versatile... Plus they'll clip straight on out of the box 👍

      Hi Martin. If you can wait a while I'm hopefully being sent the TT Mil Ops 30. It's a similar size, however more like a traditional top loader backpack. It has traditional side pockets for bottles, axes, weapons etc as well as side compression straps to fasten things down if needed. All with the bomber quality you expect from TT. If might be a viable option for you. I'll make sure I post on my community tab as soon as it arrives.
