    Ask Minister Fraser why his intrusion into Alberta Housing demands that the housing program eliminates the installation of natural gas to the housing projects?

  • @cbr9914

    i don't understand how this housing crisis is about lack of housing.....i see COUNTLESS condo buildings on the southside of edmonton that are just sitting empty....same with houses. there's a ton of housing, but it seems people just want to gouge renters and are demanding unreasonable rental rates. the housing crisis is created by pure greed (i blame all those house flipping shows on tv). giving home builders tax breaks will not lead to lower prices-not a penny of those savings will be passed on to renters or new buyers. it's just making the rich more rich.

    • @justinventela
      @justinventela 29 дней назад +1

      Are you skeptical of vacancy rates and housing start numbers?
      Or the effect of resigning mortgages on rental rates? Because the average increase on rent is equal to the average increase on mortgage payments. Which is why we weren't seeing 500 increases on rent year over year before they started increasing interest rates.
      I agree that housing is a need but just delcaring it a human right does nothing, many countries in Africa have declared healthcare a human right, while having some of the worst outcome. Sometimes words are just words that do nothing to effect reality on the ground.

      @@justinventela a bit of column A and column B. i don't think allowing people to buy multiple homes on variable mortgages is a good idea. i also know people who have renters, and the rent increases are above what the mortgage increases are.

      @@cbr9914 don't you think if we restrict the ability of buying mortgages with a variable rate less houses will be built. And do we want a world where the only housing Supply is owned by large corporations and not individuals maybe with multiple houses. I wonder why it was so important to the Trudeau government to approach Edmonton and Calgary about funding, they didn't approach any rural municipalities in Alberta about funding. They could always of said we have funding available for Alberta and could of suggested how they would like to see it administered. Besides the money they are talking about is money that all of Albertans paid in taxes and the vast majority of Albertans are already subsidizing Edmonton Calgary. DS is correct about her approach that her government knows where the funding is needed the most, just cause leftist voters don't trust her isn't her problem its theirs.
    This is just like the Carbon Tax that the Liberals suspended for the areas down east where the votes have been Liberal but screw the rest of Canada, so in this case NDP and Lib Edmonton and part of Calgary is another demonstration of the Federal Government buying votes and screw the rest of Alberta it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's going on.

    The city of Edmonton would be smart to recind their agreement with the federal government and tell them to route their funding through the province. The strings attached to the current agteement with the feds undermines what is best for Albertans in the long run. For example, the requirement that the new builds will not be connected to natural gas for heating should be a show stopper when the majority of our electricity is also generated by natural gas.

      Amazon is in the planning process to build the largest solar farm in north america in alberta. Google is also planning one. This is a provincial government that tore down solar farms when covid hit and oil prices tanked (again) because they 'weren't cost effective'. Thats just brain dead.
      Almost HALF of albertans voted socialist NDP. Alberta environmentalists teemed up with ranchers to stop coal mining. The UCP campaigned as the underdog, I thik they know their time is limited as Smith seems to be going even fuller on fascist.
      Energy is long term thinking. That said, the feds have no business dictating power for infrastructure.

      Fraser can't even subsidize housing starts without imposing his impractical woke agenda. Bragging about his deals with Edmonton and Calgary that requires them to build 4-plexes, or higher density and not connect them to natural gas for heating. So we're going to build "affordable rental homes" and heat them using gas-generated electrical? With an electrical grid that is was designed and built assuming gas heating? The geothermal panacea that was concieved for the muni airport lands has already been abandoned because they can't sell the homes because they are too expensive. Face it, affordable and green energy baseload are contradictory terms.

    Ensure housing as a human right and do so with degrowth policies. We're building an unaffordable and unlivable future.
    Whoa, right out the gate he's bragging about our disastrous pull out of Afghanistan, forgetting about interpreters and others left behind. Or now in Gaza, wherein Palestinians are crowd funding efforts to reconnect with their family here just to meet our costly standards. And then there's bringing thousands to our universities in an unaffordable situation, scam classes and costly visas (he blames the provinces). I've met so many people going through Uni a second time and working daily among 2-3 jobs just to not be deported or homeless.
    I do see a ton of Ukrainian families around Calgary, so that's good.
