For those who don't know gabagool is the Americanism for cappicola. So it makes no sense to be bothered by all the other American pronunciations but not this one.
Gabagool = Capocollo which in Italian literally means head(capo*) neck(collo). And it’s not prosciutto, the prosciutto is made from the leg of the pig while the capocollo, also known as “coppa” or “lonza” in Italy, is obtained by processing the upper portion of the pig's neck and part of the shoulder; hence the name "capocollo".
