  • In this podcast, Matt O’Reilly and I talk about his new book Free to Be Holy (Seedbed) which lays the biblical foundation for this doctrine of sanctification. Matt demonstrates that the holy life is the normative Christian experience. Matt explains that “holiness is what happens when God graciously cleanses the heart and sets it apart of him.” I enjoyed this book and conversation and think you will too.

Good discussion but I will make one little caveat:
Yes, it is true that many are hesitant in the Global Methodist Church to be called evangelicals, or to be associated with American Evangelicals. Yes, it is true that we Wesleyans differ from mainstream American Evangelicals on Sanctification. Yes it is true that many American Evangelicals are either Calvinists or Pelagians, and almost all of them are non-sacramental Zwinglians; thus distinguishing them from us. However, none of this is the TRUE reason why so many in the leadership and scholarly world of the GMC are refusing the Evangelical label.
The TRUE reason why so many in the GMC quibble over the term "evangelical" is because they *Politically, Socially and Culturally do NOT like the Religious Right* Many in the GMC leadership and scholarly world couldn't stand Jerry Falwell and the Moral Majority, not fans of Pat Robertson and the 700 Club, are Never Trumpers and think Christian Nationalism is the greatest threat on the planet.
We Methodists are thoroughly Evangelical. Again, the problem is *Soft Liberalism* They politically, socially and culturally do not like the Religious Right and are trying to press the breaks to the conservative momentum that we are experiencing.
