  • This is my attempt at trying to use UV epoxy. I needed a way to paint on UV epoxy to finish some of my custom fishing lures. I didn't want to dip the lures into the epoxy because I have a lot of baits with surface cavities that if I tried to dip into epoxy it would run around the body of the baits and cure places it should not cure. So I came up with a system that uses a $7 USD toolbox, aluminum foil and a cheap led light strip.
I paint on the UV epoxy with the removable section outside the tool box and then once I get a somewhat even coat I put the section back into the tool box and let it turn for about 10-20 mins, once the air bubbles and the epoxy has settled I let the lure spin and set with the lights on for about another 20 minutes.
So far it seems to be working well and is much less time consuming compared to setting up the 2 part with the turner and having them sit for over 24 hours. I'm not convinced that the results are any different but it's a fun way to finish 3d printed lures.

You are way ahead of the times and that's what I appreciate about your channel. Not many people are knowledgeable about what you do, which is why your views are not high. But those of us who do these stuff really appreciate your work! Most fishermen just buy whatever lure shilled to them. Then among lure makers like Marlin Baits (like his channel alot) etc they really stick to more traditional hand crafting of lures. Nobody does Fusion 360 and 3D printing of jigs to make lures. It's very cool to marry tech with something so natural like fishing. Keep it up dude!

Thanks! It's going about as expected, working a lot...which I suppose is a good thing. Hopefully I'll get out to test some of the new designs and maybe actually catch something...I'm not holding my breath. I hope all is well by you!

Thanks! More to come, hopefully sooner than later, most of the time the editing is more time consuming that the project...which reminds me to revamp my workflow...

i made a silicone mold for my zoom super flukes and im getting denting on the sides right at the split line of the mold, have you had this issue with your molds in the past? any idea what could cause it?

Denting can happen when the plastisol cools too fast, silicone is prone to this because it doesn't hold heat well like aluminum, so it's harder to have hot before injection. You can try and heat the silicone in something like a toaster oven to a low temp like 200 but silicone is heat resistant so it's going to take awhile. Otherwise you can cut a new vent in the spot that is dimpling that can help, finally you may want to try and shoot at a slightly higher temperature and hold the plunger down a bit longer than you did before to keep greater pressure in the mold. I hope one of these tips helped!
