- Опубликовано: 10 янв 2013
- This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the boot seal, also called the bellow, on Frigidaire front-load washing machines. The most common reason for replacing the boot seal is when the washer is leaking water.

Thanks for the comment. Like we've said in the other comments, we've found that a lot of people are having a hard time with the spacers. We recommend using clamps instead.
This video helped a great deal! The door latch on our washer was not locking. Using this video I fixed the problem, saving me at least $150.00!
***** Congrats, Mike!
Josh ( below ) suggested AA batteries as the perfect fit to clamp in the spring to enable you to fit it all the way round!Works a treat!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the tips!
It really depends on the model. We've found that those spacers are very tricky to get in, and you may have more luck using clamps as opposed to the spacers that come with the boot seal. I hope this helps!
Good video, although like most others said, they skipped the only challenging part which is putting that giant spring on the outside of the boot. Popping the boot into place is also challenging in and of itself.. once you get about 6-10" of the boot "popped" into place, i found it was helpful to lodge a AA battery in there to hold it while I worked my way around. Once that's on, it's time for the spring from hell. Get 4 plastic spring clamps!! Clamp it real tight about at 10:00 and 2:00 on the wheel. Then put a 3rd clamp in place, but LOOSE at about 7:00. Streeetttcchh the spring to your left as hard as you can and clamp it down real tight. Now back to the 2:00 position. Strettttcchh the spring down towards the 5:00 position and clamp in place. Now, between the 7:00 position and 5:00 position, i took a flathead screw driver and PRYED the rest into place and poked it with a second screw driver to get it to finally sit down in the channel. Be careful if you use anything sharp like a flathead so that you don't poke a hole in the rubber. WHAT A PAIN. They certainly didn't show the clamping and bleeding parts on the video : - )
Josh Headley Some repairs take serious effort. We appreciate your feedback.
Thank you for having a solution.
JOSH! You are a genius!!! The AA batteries worked a treat, perfect fit to hold the spring!!!!!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent Video! Thanks.
Sweet video! Thank you for the tips!
Thanks for the video ! That spring was a nightmare but this video was great !
It took me three sets of hands for that spring!
connor ringling it’s unreal hard to do lol
This was a lifesaver! Many thanks for an excellent video.
NJ Ross Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much for this video. I had to log in just to say what a MASSIVE PITA is was to get that spring around the gasket. I ended up using 3 steel clamps and leveraging the last bit of spring with a foot long strip of hardwood. The good news is that I did it without unstacking our dryer on top or removing the front panel.
We're glad you found the video helpful.
This video was very helpful. I was able to the boot seal and get it back on with ease. (except the spring aroung the inside, I needed another pair of hands).
We're glad the video was helpful. Congrats on the successful repair.
You're welcome!
RepairClinic.com thank you.
We've found that people have more success using clamps instead of the spacers. It is a bugger though, you're definitely not alone in your struggle!
Use a thick paint stirrer stick lengthwise cut to where it holds the inner bellows in place. Once I did that, I could do the inner spring installation myself.
Wedge the spring clamp in between the tub and the counterweight. It will clamp around where you put the spring.
Thank you!
Thanks to this video I was able to replace the boot myself, not that hard at all. Thanks!!
Good work!
thanks
The spring clamp was easy to put on, as long as you had 3 people helping! 2 people holding the spacers in place while the 3rd person pulled the spring clamp around like a madman!!
Any suggestions on putting the spring clamp on? I'm having a hard time getting the spacers to stay in place and getting the spring around the seal.
Sorry about that. We hope the repair goes smoothly anyways.
How do you do this with a spring clamp?
Great video!! It made changing out the boot in my washer go pretty smoothly!! The guy at the parts store made it seem like a big deal.... Guess he needs to have his techs watch RUclips LOL!!! Thanks Again!!!
+Eric Cohen That is what we are here for. Thank you.
Is there a boot seal kit without the repulsive "Stay Fresh" scent for Affinity model FAFW3801LW. Frigidaire says they don't have any. I'm willing to go with after market because of my allergic reaction to Stay Fresh scent. Please advise.
I love challenge with two springs on the boot, trust me or not I have replaced boot even didn't take the front panel off, I m new in RUclips I m trying to make professional videos like you guys do, and I love watching videos of repair clinic, awesome I respect they way you guys work, thumps up
hameed wafa Thank you.
Thank you for the instructional video. After watching the video I was able to pull the boot seal from my washer. However, I only have the little plastic water hose, not the little light bulb looking contraption you removed first. I have the Frigidaire Affinity Model # FAFS4272LWO . I read elsewhere that the boot seal was called a gasket. Is there a difference?
+Veronika Delvaux Boot, seal, gasket are all used interchangeably when describing this part.
It will be pretty similar.
very good video
Thanks!
Will this fit a Frigidaire Affinity Model #ATF60000E?
How long did they pause recording while the guy put that spring on HA
Don't use those spacers use the original rubber ones (the spring needs to stretch evenly while being installed)
Exactly what kind of clamp is being used to secure the spring? I can't get any clamps to hold in place on the boot to hold the spring back
+Lesley Potts, we are not aware of an alternative.
Great video & was the problem we had. Thanks again for your help.
I watched this just to find out what those two extra pieces were for, had no idea they were for holding the spring in place.
Overall, this was a pretty easy fix. If you have any mechanical knowledge, you should be able to perform this in less than 30 minutes.
Do you have a video with the frigidaire affinity front load washer counterweight replace?
+Mrs Lemus Once you have the front off like we have in this video, the counterweight is held on with bolts that should be visible.
What type of clamps are being used to hold the spring in place?
You can use the spacers provided with this kit - www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Door-Boot-Seal/134728400/1191288 - or spring clamps like this: www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-2-in-Metal-Spring-Clamp-with-Pivot-Tips-012387/204415318
mine is not leaking from the door but its leaking from somewhere, it still drains from the drain
Does anyone know what causes the boot seal to mangle? Overloaded washer perhaps? Ours got a tear/hole in it and the entire thing became warped looking as if heat had been involved. When we took it out it didn't look distorted anymore ....
Overloading will cause the most stress on the seal and even regular wear will cause the seal to fail eventually. If the seal was twisted a little when it was installed it will fail sooner. Another thing to look at is the shocks and springs holding up the tub. If the tub is not centered in the front hole it will pull the seal to one side or the other. Just a few things to check. Hope this helps.
Clamps would be easier, but unfortunately the clamps I have are too wide to fit the end of the clamp in behind the spring. It's always something, I suppose.
This is my washer, and it's leaking :( where do I order the part? Thank you, t

@@repairclinic I can't get link to work
I dont have the spacers to help with the damn boot spring. what can I use to help keep the spring in place
+TheAmmodogg A set of hand clamps might work also.
I used 4 deep well sockets as spacers ...got the darn spring back on lol...all is good now. Thanks forthe feedback
Oohh one think i forgot to mention was when you were putting it back together they forgot to reconnect the tube to the seal lol
The secret for me was using 6 wedges along the way to keep the spring in place
Kim Piercy Thanks for sharing. We're glad the repair was successful.
Hi there, this affinity machine looks exactly like the one I have and I'm having mold issues. I wanted to confirm my model number so I called Frigidaire for clues (where the sticker might be). It turns out, there are absolutely no stickers with a model number on our unit. Please believe me. The 800# help was stumped. Might you know if the door boot seal is universal for the affinity line? Again, my unit looks exactly like the one you are demo-ing on this video. Thanks in advance.
We cannot know for sure unless we have a model number. There are two different boot seals that Affinity washers seem to use. The one in this video: www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Door-Boot-Seal/134728400/1191288?TLSID=1773 or this one: www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Door-Boot-Seal/134515300/1156861?TLSID=1773
If the one you order does not fit you can always send it back for a full refund.

installing the spring around the inside of the boot seal is damn near impossible alone.
Yes, this part of the repair is challenging.
This video save me $150 :) THANK YOU - word to the wise though ---- Have a helper! That inside spring is pretty hard to do by yourself.
We're happy we could help! Thanks for the additional tip as well :-)
Hey Rusty Ulrich looks to me like they made a very helpful video to save people time & money & because you couldn't close the deal...you blame these guys. Wow...maybe you should make a video then post it for all to decide how well you perform. Personally I think the instructions was super helpful & I appreciate the fact they posted a video to help out the masses. Well Rusty maybe next time you can sit in the front of the class & don't be embarrassed to raise your hand if you have a question. ROLL CALL..... Rusty....I'm here, but half asleep & not paying attention so when I fail I look to blame those who extended their knowledge & expertise. Lol
i have a problem whit the washer i put it to wash 44 goes on to 43 when it hits 42 it stays on pause how can i fix it
What is your washer's model number?
FAFW3801lw0
Sandra Figueroa You may not be getting water in fast enough or the washer may not draining properly. If these look ok you may have a bad control. The only way to know for sure is to do some testing with a meter and wiring diagram. There may be a fact sheet located behind the control panel.
I ended up making my own "clamps". I cut down scrap 2x4 so it was a tight fit 1 7/8 x 7/8 x 2 1/4. 5 of them and a small hammer, and a automotive trim removal tool with the rounded edges, and it popped that spring engineered by the devil himself, into place.
Glad it worked out for you, Eric!
message door not closed and it is
+Diana Domenick The door lock is likely defective and will need replacement.
3:00 and use eye protection... well that guy does not have eye protection
I can't even get the seal OFF. In the video he gives it a gentle tug and the whole thing comes loose. But pulling pretty hard, it's not budging at all. I can't even imagine how I'll get it back on. They must have used a doctored spring clamp that is way looser than a real one for the video. Arg.
I also don't have a wire harness like this. There are 4 or 5 separate wire harnesses. Oh well, I just left them attached.
Needless to say this is not the easy job they portray it to be. Now I have to get my husband to help me. Boooo.
+Arianne Thompson The machine we had was taken apart a bunch of time so that could be why it seemed easy.
CAP..... That spring clamp does not go on that easy.
