- In this video I go over a little update on the trailer Hitch install done in the last video. I also go over why I chose the Yakima EXO SwingBase system for my additional storage needs and document my install process of that system.

I did end up using electrical tape on most of the connections and wires that were exposed from the corrugated housing.
The Yakima system component weights:
EXO SwingBase - 68.5 lbs.
EXO GearLocker - 27.8 lbs.
EXO LitKit - 5.4 lbs.
Total - 101.7 lbs.
A quick internet search is showing that that the trailer hitch is rated for up to 350 lbs. so there should be plenty of capacity left for loading gear and potentially adding the EXO TopShelf later down the road.

Thanks for checking the door 😅you helped solidify my decision to purchase 👊🏼
On my Subaru Onyx, the hatch opens with the box closed or open FYI. Pretty sweet setup. Thanks for posting, new sub.
Thanks for the sub!
Excellent, informative video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Did you figured how to change out the key lock of the GearLocker?
Hey there! Just checking in on how this performed on your trip? Did it wobble much? I am thinking about getting this for my 2017 Forester and haven't seen many performance reviews. Thanks!
Hey I had no issues on my trip, it was mostly highway and not too steep as it was a beach trip. I didn't notice any performance impact, but I could feel the weight distribution to the back. I believe the earlier Foresters use the smaller trailer hitch size, at least the oem version so that would not be compatible I believe.
From your video, it looks like the license plate & lights aren’t blocked by the box (but would with a second tier). Is that an accurate, or is the angle just different in the video? Still happy with it?
Yes I believe visibility with a single gear locker should be fine to the tail lights and license plate. I never ended up moving the plates over when I use the gear locker. So far no problems with it!
good for a camp grill station

Those are SKS locks (based on the specs) - they are straightforward to swap out with a change key. My local dealer gives those out for free with purchase of a set of locks.
