Watching this review years later while waiting for the 801/901 reveal. Great review. Shame the authorities chased you off at the end. Clearly, they have no appreciation for fine motorcycles.
1:56 The slipperclutch doesnt let you make clutchless shifts, the quickshifter does. It does have a slipperclutch as well, but that lets you shift into lower gears at higher speeds without the rear tire acting up.
This is a nice piece of machinery. I tried one ones and the seating position with clipons is better than I thought it would be. Punchy engine and light weight, quality components and off we go! I read some comments about forums and bad quality. Off course you find owners with bad experiences on a forum! That's why they're there in the first place. Any road, this bikes runs great. Other brands could learn a bit or two from this.
Test rode a 701 during my search for my return to biking. This bike pulled like a train, easy to ride, was great in the corners and is a definite head-turner. Problem I found, having rode this in the summer, sitting on it at traffic lights felt like I was straddling a BBQ. The heat coming off the engine was something else. My other dislike is the display unit - utterly garbage in sunlight due to it's rather flat angle. Maybe they've upgraded it since, but at the time I rode it, I was not liking it at all. That aside, it was a close call for me, I was so very tempted. Upon further reading, I was uncovering posts by owners complaining about electrical issues with the bike. Glad I didn't go for it, as I would never have found my lovely XSR900. Since that test ride, two years have passed by, and I have only ever seen one 701 on the road in my local area.
Firstly, may I say you dealt with the "security " chap very gentlemanly 👍Security is part of my role and I may suggest that chap takes the course in engaging with the general public! Importantly which do you prefer? The svartpilen or vitpilen? Gorgeous looking bike. Top review. Shame had to be cut short.
Thanks Pike. Yes I’m always the gentleman until I have reason not to be lol. I was short of time anyway tbh. I prefer the look of this, but preferred the Svartpilen because of the taller bars and slightly longer suspension travel.
Fell in love with the Vit 401...in time felt too big on it. Went and got a Svartpilen 701 just before lockdown...loved it...but went and got an Iron 883 as wanted that Harley soundtrack and it's a proper experience every ride...but there is something about these Huskie's that keeps luring me back!!!
MrDarcy & the Ol'Man The Iron was love at first site a few years back, but I’m now say toying with selling it after 3 months and going back to a Svart!?! Food for thought over winter
I think it is great value for money, and the attention to detail of the design is very appealing. If I could afford a second bike this would be a great weekend twisty road fun bike. Thanks for your review!
I love the bridge up the hill to Stowe House .. Nice bones as the gardening world says .. Love the bike set there .. I made flowerpots to celebrate Stowe for the Royal Oak Foundation here in America years back that sent money to that garden ... Lovely backdrop if not for all the cars :)
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Nothing like a little Agent Orange to finish off ones idyllic afternoon of filming..Hope you don't get any extra digits on your extremities from the ordeal ..:) What we do for expression of our art ... Still a great backdrop for the bike ...Thanks
To be honest I personally think you look fantastic with your height in that bike too. Maybe you are used to bigger bikes but given that this one is designed to feel compact and agile, as I said, I wont say you are making it look like a smurf. (I am tall too, 190cm same as you I think though) Nice video and by the way, they are no more in production as KTM discontinued the engine!
I had the same thing happen at Cliveden. Some eastern European groundsman told me to stop photographing my car on the drive. I was photographing my car not the drive of the house so I reported him to the management team and told them that because of this we would not be having lunch in the restaurant and we went else where. Everybody in the world has a camera these days in their phone, so how are these types going to stop everyone taking pictures or videos? Could understand it if you were doing harm or destroying the grass. I would drop Stowe House a letter or an email of complaint.
Ahh I’m not bothered no problem. It was busier than Piccadilly Circus! Car after car after car, non stop. I went to Cliveden once, many years ago. Very impressive.
Glad you put the bit with the jobsworth security man in near the end, ha ha now that was funny, you should have said 'make me' that would have been even better I think I would love to hear the sound of that jobsworths bones being broken..
Better-looking than the Svartpilen. Just needs risers and cast wheels. I'd sooner have the old KTM Duke 690. Ol'Man, you dwarf every bike! And what a pillock at the end.
How do you think this bike suits rider of your height in comparison to benelli imperiale 400? Im looking for a nice thumper and i'm thinking of these two bikes. I know the difference in seatheight but i don't know how footpegs position affects amount of space for a rider like you. Also while riding these bikes have you experienced any shortage of room for legs?
Thanks buddy. The Benelli has a more classic upright riding position and is probably more roomy. The Husky is very considerably more powerful!! The Husqvarna Svartpilen has a better riding position. So for taller folk; the Benelli, but it’s nowhere near the performance
@@MrDarcy-OlMan Thank you Ol'Man. Currently it's not the performance that i'm looking for so it shouldn't be a problem. I'm looking for something that looks and sounds classy. Something i can commute with and do chill out riding for an hour or two. The only problem is i'm 6 feet 3 inches like you and i don't like dual sports.
Saw one in person a few weeks ago it's gorgeous! Security guy needs to relax, you were not loitering you were just taking some photos of your bike. Now I'm curious who owns that property, maybe a celebrity.....🤔
KTM is generally pretty good nowadays, they used to have electrical problems like the horn or the blinkers not working, but that doesn’t seem to exist in 2017+ models. Either way they never really had a problem mechanically if you keep up on maintenance
@@MrDarcy-OlMan I run a cafe racer SRX600 and have resisted the temptation to tune it beyond a new can and jet job as I kind of like the solid pull from tick over - I once had a Tiger Cub and upgraded it to tiger cub sports ie from 10hp to 14.5hp sure it went faster but it was no where near as nice ride low down
@@Mike-sBike Well you get this bike for the looks. Personally i think it looks better, especially on that 2020 vitpilen. So the price is worth it, for me.

Most notably one of the best reviews on this platform on this motorcycle 👍. Nicely done
Thanks Vincent! Much appreciated
Agreed!

Urgh, 6ft so I'll give that one a miss. There I was thinking what a nice front garden you have. Enjoyable review brought to a sudden close.
