rach! i'm from honduras and love a good platano frito, here are some tips for the next time you try!! use a really ripe plantain, a good amount of black on it, slice in thick diagonal slices. add oil to the pan, a good amount & let them fry until they're caramelized in the pan, flipping as needed. they should be super soft upon coming out. i hope you recreate what you missed so much! love your 31 days of chic so much & look forward to it every day :-)
I’m half Cuban and we make them like this too but usually as a part of a full meal. Never served alone. If I was going to eat plantains alone or as a base of a tapa or snack I would make them tostones style which is my personal fav. Amazing with mojo sauce, ceviché or even just avocado! I’m not going to write out a recipe for tostonesbc it can be easily googled but if anyone wants a recipe for any of the pairings then let me know! 💜
I think you’ve handled this month and especially the sicknesses really well. Poor Weston! When you sign up to do a daily vlog, it must so daunting not knowing what can happen during that time. But it’s also a part of the wonder (that I can see anyway) of daily vlogs. You never know what’s around the corner, it’s unplanned to a large degree. You just have to do your best at documenting it. Well done! 👌👌
congrats on 100k subscribers!!! i completely agree with what you said about the day after christmas! my family actually gives each other presents on new year's day so we don't really celebrate christmas, but it is a weird feeling when you and your family are just getting into the festive spirit as everyone else is kind of going back to their daily (but still holidayish) routine. i think the christmas cheer everywhere leading up to it is really nice but i've always felt a little isolated celebrating the holidays with my family bc we do it at a different time (not that i don't appreciate the tradition). looking forward to your next video!!
Make sure that your plantain is super ripe! When you buy them, they should look like they’ve gone bad. But they haven’t...they’re perfect! Cut them diagonally and watch them! The sugar in them will burn super fast! So make sure you keep a watchful eye! Also make sure that you have a good amount of oil in the pan! Don’t skimp on the oil!
Started to watch you right before vlogmas and I will say that I will miss the videos. I see how busy you are and how you're trying your best to keep posting videos. Keep it up. On a side note. Yes!!!!!!! I love when pressed juicery has their sales. I do prefer the now extinct juice served here but pressed is the next best thing.
hey rachel, just a question, have you tried to bring your own container to the korean restaurant for your chicken noodles? or any restaurant? cause i wanted to try to bring my own container for the take away food, but im kinda shy to do it. also, i'm asking you this because you have kinda inspired me to eat clean and getting me into a wellness lifestyle slowly, and im happy how it makes me feeling so good like an achievement. ps: your choice of music, is the bomb i f ing love it :D
Hey Rachel! You were talking about moving in this video and i was wondering if you could give me advice on things i should know before moving out of my parents for the first time (the proper way to do it and how was your experience) ... i want to move to a new city too and im kinda nervous but i know i want to do it! Thank you in advance and i hope you and Weston get better Love youuu ❤❤❤
you'll be fine!!!! i was lucky enough to secure a job before moving, so it all happened really fast. I looked for a place and my parents helped me move. I didn't have much and slept on the ground for a month, but slowly bought pieces i loved for my apt rather than blowing a ton of money to mediocrely furnish. i don't think there's a proper way to do it hahaha it almost is just ripping a bandaid and diving off a cliff head first but know you're safe because there's water under you
idk if anyone ended up making this or not but i made a playlist of all your soundcloud tracks from this season's 31daysofthatschic and it's up to date rn!! soundcloud.com/changod/sets/31daysofthatschic-vlogmas-2k17

was gonna do the same thing! I need to spread the platano frito word (I'm half colombian/half ecuadorian) tip: they burn quickly, so flip them fast!

i’d recommend making plantains on a toaster oven if you own one for like 10-15 minutes 👌🏾

oh these are really good tips thank you - does this mean to keep the oil on med-high?
