I almost bought the mark 1 a day before it was announced. I ended up buying the mark2 within the first hour it went on preorder. I feel where you’re coming from.😂😂
But the question is whether the new version is worth 1/3 more for most people. Probably not. I had the first version, it's pretty solid lens, not much improved in v2.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 I mean if you own one it’s not really worth it unless you really a zoom in freak. Although as in my case that u don’t have a 24-70mm this is prefect and just need to save up more. Currently I’m rocking a 16-35mm gm and a 85mm 1.8 and I want something in the middle
I agree! Something is off. pictures from Sigma 2470 M1 clearly lack definition here and are soft, which I find absurd because he also used a tripod. My Sony SEL2870 kit lens performs better at F8 than Sigma 2470 M1 shown here under low light :'D I previously owned Sigma 2470 M1 and tested it in the night to photograph roads and cars. at 100% zoom and lower light levels than this one (4s shutter speed) I could read the parked cars number plates without softness. P.S: I returned my initially bought Sigma 2470 M1 because it was simply expensive 2 years. Now I bought it again on discount because I simply loved it back then.
Great lens review Sir Michael! Direct and to the point with concise and thorough testing to support your claims! With a chuckle or two throughout, I am amply satisfied. Good day to you.
In Europe and the US the mk II is even more of a no brainer since the difference is only about 100 Euros / Dollars and the gm II ist literally double the Price (here in Germany its 1190/1300 and 2400 Euros for mk1/mk2 and gm)
Crazy interesting results compared to other youtubers. Probably the only video showing that much of a difference in sharpness to the MkI. Picked up my MkII a few weeks ago. First full frame lens and camera
I just bought a mark1 Sigma 24-70 2.8 DG DN in mint shape for $700. It was bought by a friend new just a few months ago as a NOS from our local camera shop.
I only have sigma primes. But they are APSC and I shoot full frame now and although my 16 mm and my 30 are 1.4 apertures I can’t take advantage of the 61mm that my Sony A7r4. I can now sell those the other two lenses. I almost got the Tamron 28-75 and it even was cheaper. But I know Sigmas quality, but I also know that 4 mm can make a difference. I just ordered the Mark II today. I’m very excited.
hella nah sony is way better, way more accommodating, and frankly just a better product. used a sony lens on my STARLIGHT music video, hands down insane.
My photography teacher only told me real photographers use prime lens but never mentioned standard zooms and the money part which probably explains why I don't make any money from my photos. Jokes aside, thanks for the detailed reviews!
Just a heads up for fellow Aussies, the Mark II is only $150 cheaper than the Sony GM II. For $150 more, you can get more FPS and focus breathing compensation (for cameras that support it). Won't be worth it to majority of people but wanted to throw this out there
YOU definitely ruined my evening 🤣 Seeing this video right after having to buy the "new" Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG DN because my A7S3 simply didn't wanted to S-AF in photo mode with my first Sigma 35mm f1.4 DG HSM, is pretty depressing! One can not simply keep up with all the upgraded gear that's coming out if videography or photography is your hobby and you're not making any money out of it. The results the MkII gives you look absolutely GORGEOUS though!!!
I bought the mk.1 back in February for $800, i got it from the original owner who I’m guessing didn’t use it much because it was super mint. I wish I knew about the mk.2 was around the corner I might have waited. But I’m definitely happy with the mk.1
This is a bad time to be shooting Canon....I haven't seen an EF version to be adapted and they ain't opening the full frame mount for a while. Which is a shame because this is my favorite focal length to use. I love my current Sigma 24-70 EF lens. I have my EF to RF Adapter permanently on it because I use it so much.
when you have a dead battery in a manual car you sit inside and let it roll in second gear which essentially push-starts it! this happened to me one time in a remote location and I was alone so I had to push my car as fast as I could then I hopped in and clutched kicked and it started! 1. Turn the ignition to ON and leave it there. At no point during this process should you turn it to START 2. Shift to 2nd gear but don't release the clutch 3. Release brakes 4. Commence rolling down an incline, OR have a friend start pushing the car 5. At about 6mph or 10km/h, drop the clutch. No accelerator is necessary 6. If it worked the engine will now be running and the car will continue along at an idle. You can safely clutch in and apply the brakes now. If the car shuddered and did not quite start, repeat the steps but reach a higher speed before dropping the clutch
bought the old one and the dust issue is a bummer but got it cheaper than most of my primes so I cant complaint. 350$ price for a used piece with dust issues. did diy cleaning attempt but got one screw stucked with proprietary glue. Learnt about the glue applied by manufacturers later on after some research. got to buy extractor if isopropyl doesnt work. not really complicated to do even for first timer diy guy bit anxious though.
I have been waiting for this kind of amazing review, welldone 👏 I was about to buy the mark one when i heard the rumour that mark ii is come and i have waited . Now i am even more confused as to which one to go for as the mark one have reduced so much in price . I dont know whether the mark ii is worth paying more for 😂
Sad the mark 2 doesn't have an option for canon, I get that the RF mount isn't open yet but not even EF, wish I had the money to change systems sometimes lol
Its release is greatly undermined by Tamron dropping 28-75/2.8 G2 price to $699 and Sigma themselves dropping the price of the original version to $899. The new lens retails $1199, i.e. $500 more than Tamron and $300 more than the previous version. Both Tamron and old Sigma are equally good optically as the new one, so whether the minor differences of version 2 are worth the extra money is debatable.
weather shield both?? Come on man , the 1st one was a dust magnet . After a walk at the park , the glass inside was full of dust dots. If the new one is the same , it will be a big NO.
honestly I think you need to pixel peep to see the difference in lenses. for me I'd save the $500 I saved and make another investment towards another lens like a 85 1.4
Hi there something is off with the M1 pictures. Even my Sony SEL 2870 has better performance (albeit slightly) under lowlight at f8 than Sigma 2470 M1 shown here. I recently bought Sigma 2470 M1 because I simply loved the lens when I tested it 2 years ago under low light and my pictures were sharper at 100% than the M1 samples shown here! Do not be taken aback by this review, folks!
USD the mk1 is $899 vs the mk2 is $1199, is the $300 difference worth it? Since I have neither lens, I’m looking into a standard zoom and the “new” price (on sale) for the mk1 is the same as the used sale most everywhere.
hey in your video it seems like the mk2 is way better then the mk1 in points of image sharpness/quality, but in all the other videos I have seen about the new lens, they show example pictures, and there the difference isnt that big in point of image quality ? how that, I have no explanation for this
@@thephobic1393 i got mine for 950€ on amazon at a sales price. So overall I don't think it's worth selling V1 and getting the V2 as i would be paying 300 to 400 more just to get the upgraded version. We good mate, we good! just unlucky
I had Sigma 28-70 at the same time I had 24-70. The former is much softer and lower in contrast, but both produce nice images with good bokeh, I wouldn't hesitate using any of them. The only reason I gave up 24-70 is because it was too heavy and no fun to use.

Not much of a gear head, but Mikey G showing off the lens and getting straight to the point was that extra spice.
Something is wrong with your old lens. Mine isn't that soft and Dustin Abott also did a comparison, where the results were way closer.
