    Hi everyone!! The OEM Toyota part number for the assembly I replaced is 815500R090 - the passenger side outside assembly - NOT the one on the tailgate. The driver side is 815600R090. From most Toyota parts places I've checked, this part costs about $225 now.

    Great video. I had some trouble because the cable connected to the boy would not extend out through the hole. However there is a little square piece that pops out from inside the trunk that gives you direct access to the cable, that did the trick.

      Fantastic! I've heard a couple of comments from people with later Rav4s say similar things so they must have slightly altered the way the connection routs. Thanks for the info!

    .slight variation. My part came without electronics and wiring. Needed to attach the existing globe and electronics. A secure Torx screwdriver was required for two screws, but worked out fine. Thankyou for the video, would not have had the confidence or known where to start otherwise.

    Thank-you Sir for making the video! The only mistake you showed us in this helpful video was that you need to wear some work gloves!! I don't know about other's...as for myself, I like to work on my car's often and If I don't wear gloves, I will get my skin sliced up very easily and also no leverage with moving/picking up stuff when i'm not protected. Perhaps I just have super weak hands!!

      I normally do wear gloves if I'm doing things like changing oil, working on grease-covered parts, things like that. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for this great video Dave. Pulling the power cord out to the connector was scary as W#%$T. The cord was really tight, so I started to undo the lights and just switch the cover, but two of the bulbs are held in place with screws I couldn't get out. So I got brave and went for the cord again and made it happen.

    Hi my light works but just one of the red lens has a crack. Do you know if you have to replace the whole assembly or can you buy and replace the red lens?

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  Год назад

      Hi! Unfortunately, unless you can find an aftermarket seller that has the lenses and also a tool to remove/replace it (and seal it), you're kinda stuck replacing the entire unit.

    Hey thanks for the video! Did you buy your tail light OEM? If so, what is the part number for the tail light?

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  2 года назад

      Surely!! 815500R090 is the original OEM part number from Toyota. Thanks for watching!! Be aware that's the right-side (passenger) *outside* assembly that is the one I replaced in the video (not the part that goes on the tailgate).

      Mine was like that too. You can take out the light bulb and the other side of the wires instead.

    My left hand taillight needs replacing and I got as far as taking the old light off the body, but the electrical cord inside is attached to the body and I cannot get it to come loose!! It really looks as though I need to pull the inside molding off the body to get at the electrical cable! Any suggestions?

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  2 года назад

      The cord is secured by a rubber grommet to prevent water intrusion. *Carefully* pry that grommet loose to free the cord. Be patient and you'll get it out. You don't have to pull off the body molding.

    • @olbluehair1
      @olbluehair1 2 года назад

      No, no, you do not understand. The white connnecting clip at the end of the cable, and the inside cljp that it connects to are attached to the body, behind the molding. The cable does not just pull out revealing the connecting clips like it did for your vehicle. Thoughts?

    • @DIYDaveOK

      @@olbluehair1 What kind of a car do you have, then?

      A 2020 Toyota rav4 xle.

    • @DIYDaveOK
      @DIYDaveOK  2 года назад

      @@olbluehair1 If it's essentially the same vehicle, then, I cannot think of why there would be a substantial difference in how the tail light is mounted or why the connector would be attached to the body. It really should be a mirror image of the other side. I can't fathom removal of the interior panel is truly necessary. I do recall thinking I had to pull the cord our further than I needed to disconnect the light, then realized I had *just enough* to disconnect the light and replace it. I will look at some other diagrams and let you know if I find something different.

    Yikes... The moment he scratched the crap out of the fender.
    Probably could've just grabbed the right side of it and push it backward... Gently.
    Instead of yanking it out... Just pull it back.
