That wheel is too small for rats,please do proper research I realize that this was a posted a while ago but if u look at this and think that it is a good idea you would not be entirely right. Rats need a wheel that is at minimum 30 cm across or else it will curve their spines and they won’t be able to walk, I personally recommend saucer wheels because they can take up much less space but are flat. Second, the bare wire ramps will harm your rats’ feet, this is known s bumble foot which I saw someone mention in here. Third, rat cages need much more righten than this, hammocks, newspaper, huts, boxes, perches, and at least an hour a day outside of the cage for playing. But yes, this is SO much better than a bin cage that they were in at the beginning and big groups like this are very good, u have to have minimum 2 rats but they will be much happier with more.
@@sjsisjsjks I completely agree, it is so much better but if u r going to to drag innocent living things into something that they can’t say no to, u should at least provide them proper housing. It is completely possible to run a lab that uses animals without having it be cruel so I hope that this was among those few.

I am aware the saucer wheels can also curve their spines but not nearly as much as the normal wheels and it is much easier to find one that is the right size without it taking up half the cage. Also, it is true that bumble foot is caused by bacteria, the thing is that standing on bare wire all day will give their feet a rations abrasions, and since there is always some bacteria in a rat cage it will easily get infected. So yes, Sabre wire can cause bumble foot, if it doesn’t it is just very painful for the rats.
It is very important to note that it is very possible to have a cruelty free lab, some of the experiments are to test the rats’ intelligence, they can be used to see if someone is sick before symptoms appear, they can find land mines, they can be emotional suet animals and service animals. It is true that sometimes animals are abused in labs but not always so just look for the symbol on products that u buy so that u can make sure it wasn’t tested on animals.
All lab animals should have homes like this. Their sacrifices have taught us so much and in return we stuff them in tiny shoeboxes.
I like these setups a lot better than the ones with just an empty box with food and water
animals and humans that are mentally stimulated, happy, healthy, normally learn quicker.

These are laboratory rats used for research, not pets... this cage is heaven compared to what 99.9% of lab rats get.
