I really love the comment on enjoying the crowds in the bamboo forest… there is so much negativity about the crowds in Kyoto, as if we are supposed to experience these places alone and without people, or that alone is the only way they are beautiful… same thing in national parks here in the USA- I actually enjoy the crowds too, it’s a real pleasure to see other humans smiling and getting filled with nature and beauty :) down to earth… love it
I definitely agree with you! Over-crowding can be a problem sometimes, so I sympathize with that, but having other people around isn't a bad thing either! It definitely brings a little magic to the experience to see others just enjoying the experience too! :) Glad to hear other people also appreciate this!! Thank you! :D

We are very happy to see some of the tradition very much alive in Japan's smaller and more historic areas. Kyoto was an amazing experience! Hope we get to visit again one of these days!

19:15 That chanting vending machine is too funny. Namo-Amida-Butsu, one of the basic chant in Buddhism. Simple and all purpose. If you see a temple, you can chant Namo-Amida-Butsu. If you got scared at night, you can chant Namo-Amida-Butsu. If you see a ghost and want it to leave you alone(?), you can chant Namo-Amida-Butsu. If you want to greet a monk, you can chant Namo-Amida-Butsu..... If you buy from a vending machine, you can chant Namo-Amida-Butsu. 😂
Ohh we were wondering what it was saying!! Hahaha. We loved that vending machine!! That’s interesting that it’s all-purpose! We’ll have to read more about it!!
Kyoto is fantastically beautiful!! This was actually filmed over 4 days - I would recommend at least 2 or 3 in Kyoto because a lot of the major sights are pretty spread out!
I am Japanese. Kiyomizu Temple is definitely a place you should visit. Even for me, a Japanese, Kiyomizu Temple is very beautiful. If you ever go to Kyoto again, you should definitely go there. People in Kyoto are very conservative, but around Kiyomizu-dera, there are many people who can use English and they are friendly to foreigners
Love your videos! We’re planning our trip to Kyoto first week of May😊. Do you mind to share the location or name of the place you stayed that made you happy? We’re overwhelmed by all the airbnb choices 😅.
Thank you so much!! We hope you have an amazing trip to Kyoto! This is the exact listing we stayed at: www.airbnb.com/rooms/18432404?guests=1&adults=1&s=67&unique_share_id=1f414640-09d2-4944-8bb4-a03269d219f0 It was really nice, but we were bummed the extra rooms were locked without an extra fee. I would recommend staying near the Gion District if you can. It's the historic district that you think of when Kyoto comes to mind. If not there or if you want to do a lot of exploring, we would recommend near the central station so you are close to a lot of train line options! Hope that helps! :)
Thank you so much for your reply! We’ll definitely look into this one. Also, if you don’t mind, would you share the Airbnb you stayed in Nara, the one that came with the bikes😊. We watched your Nara video back and forth a few times trying to get the name of the hotel but no luck😂
Hi , I love the videos , I am traveling to Japan in March , I have only one day to go to kyoto did you guys did all that in one day or multiple days ? I am cirios how much I can see in a day
Thank you!!! This was actually filmed over multiple days, i think all of Kyoto would be really really hard to see in a day. I think I would recommend doing Fushimi Inari in the morning, followed by the Nishiki market and then the Gion district if I only had one day!
I am Japanese. I teach foreign tourists. There are two old buildings in Japan that have completely different religions." They are the "ZINJYA" and the "OTERA". At Fushimi Inari, the"ZINJYA"is the one with the orange torii gate and the "OTERA"is the one without. The place without the torii is the temple. Religiously, they are completely different, but many Japanese consider both important. We Japanese go to both and visit both. Enjoy Japan!
@@IfWeGoTo ZINJYA" with "~INARI" after its name has a fox as its guardian deity. At ZINJYA, before praying, people ring a hanging bell, bow their heads twice, and clap their hands twice to pray for happiness. At temples, we simply join our hands together in silence and pray for happiness.
We’re planning a trip in June kinda curious as to what your budget was we are looking at about 6k+ flight, hotel, expenses is there any website recommendations we’re coming out of Texas!! Flight being the most expensive!!
We have a bit of a unique situation as far as budget goes because we stay abroad for longer periods of time and plan around deals. But I would say Japan has a variety of pricing based on what experience you want and how big your party is! We’ve found monthly rent for two under $800 in Tokyo for a basic place, but you could easily spend hundreds a night too. I don’t believe June is a big tourist season so Kyoto will probably run cheaper than when we went! A meal out can be as little as $3-7 a plate at a local chain, but hundreds a plate at fancy restaurants. Mid-range I’d say runs $15-30 a plate. And I’d kind of expect to pay around that in Kyoto because they don’t have as many food options! Coming from Texas, I’d check Skyscanner first! (don’t book on Skyscanner or any third parties they may list, but use them to compare prices and book direct with the airline!!). If it’s expensive or has tons of layovers, I would also consider a long layover (or even a short trip!) in Honolulu if you can find good deals from TX. Our flights from HNL were a great deal and they tend to fly there cheap. I think SFO flies to Japan direct and pretty cheap compared to many places too. For accommodations we usually use airbnb, but have recently been opting for Agoda or hotels more… but it really just depends on reviews and price. The Shinkansen is expensive… coming from Tokyo prepare to pay $100ish per person each way. Local trains are really cheap though. If there’s anything else we can help you with, let us know! I’m not sure if you’re only going to Kyoto or seeing more of Japan, but the Osaka airport is a good spot to consider too!
This was actually filmed over a few days in Kyoto!! We spent 5 days there, but I believe the actual filming was done over 3-4 days! I would spend at least 2-3 days to see the best of the city because things are pretty spread out and public transit doesn't run as frequently as some of the more modern cities. March will be a lovely time to visit! Will you be there for the cherry blossoms you think??
Wow you guys have a long trip planned! Will be so awesome I bet! Hope you very much enjoy it! If you ever have questions or anything don't hesitate to reach out! :D
Happy new year. Arisa and Papa really enjoyed your videos. As Japanese, we were happy. Thank you very much. We dramatized a Japanese fairy tale with a father and daughter. We would be thrilled if you would take a look. We hope that 2023 will be a wonderful year.
Temples in Kyoto cost admission fees, and it costs a lot of money, isn't it? Kyoto is also a popular tourist destination for Japanese people, and various prices may be higher than other tourist spots. Next time you come to Kyoto, please try the local food unique to Kyoto called "Obanzai".
We didn’t run into anything that was too much? But if you went to every temple and shrine with a fee it would add up very very fast. We’ll definitely keep an eye out for that next time!!!! We love trying the local food!
The relationship between Japan and nature continues to this day. In the West, they tended to separate, partly due to the influence of religion, but in Japan they tended to coexist.
Hi , this was great. Would you say you could have done it in less? We're looking at our itinerary now and looking at similar places and thought 3 may be ok, or would that be a bit rushed do you think?
Hi!! I think a similar itinerary could potentially be done in 3 days, for us filming takes a bit more time than necessary to see a place! I would just be careful with your transit planning and choose a prime location for your accommodations because the trains are more infrequent in Kyoto... or hire taxis to maximize your time there! hope you have an amazing trip! :)
So Kyoto is almost kind of like a ring, with most of the temples and touristic sites on the outside, and a loooot of sprawling suburb in the middle. With the exception of the mall and central train station. I’d recommend staying right at the central train station if you’re planning a lot of sightseeing all over, but I think around the Gion district would be the overall best area to stay for a tourist! Wherever you go, I’d try to stay near a train line and research the train times so you can prep your days around that! Unless of course you have the budget for taxis, then it’s not as much of an issue where you stay!
For Okazaki Jinja, the rabbit is the animal in Chinese astrology that is associated with the eastern direction and this temple was built to the east of the palace to "protect" it. The rabbits are also the messengers of the actual kami (deities) enshrined there: Susanoo, god the sea and storms along with one of his wives. The two of them have many children.
It was totally our own fault with bad planning, but basically we stayed in a super bad location to see anything, no restaurants near our accommodations at all, and had really restricted hours because of our old work schedule… so we really only got to see the center of the city (so not the beautiful, historic parts) and if we did make it to the popular sites they were usually closed because of our own terrible schedule!! We still had a good time doing what we could, but we really didn’t get to properly experience what Kyoto has to offer. So I’m very very happy we went back and tried again because it is such an amazing, beautiful city!
@@IfWeGoTo oh that’s right! Kyoto closes very early. I think most places of interest closes at 6pm so there isn’t much to visit after that except for some shopping and taxis are extremely expensive too.
We definitely didn’t hate it but we didn’t love it!! It was totally on us though, we stayed in a bad area for tourist and had a limited schedule so we didn’t get to really see the best of it! I’m glad we went again and got to see what it’s really about!
somehow,... foreign tourists always go to shrines and temples but never go to the railway museum .... true, the little kids hog all the hands on displays but still .... if you're not Buddhist and Shinto ... what the hey hey ? ....
I’d argue more people are interested in culture than trains, so that’s probably why! That said, the museum looks pretty cool and we hadn’t even heard of it after 2 trips to kyoto. Maybe on our next trip we’ll visit!
You really don’t need to wear masks. Just got back from japan and didn’t wear a mask 99% of the time and it’s fine. It’s very hard to understand you guys when you wear them.
Hmmm, no one else has complained about the audio in any of our Japan videos… and we don’t hear a problem… even in our more masked ones or where it was compulsory… we use pretty expensive audio equipment. Though we do take them off when we can to show our faces. I’d say the only time we had bad audio in this video is in the loud restaurant and at Nishiki market where Alan forgot to turn on his mic lol. Where did the audio sound bad? and we understand it’s not compulsory (in most locations), but I’d say the majority of Japanese did wear them in most situations. We were trying to be respectful of what the local people are doing and want.
@@IfWeGoTo your not Japanese you don’t need to wear them. My Japanese friend wished they didn’t feel the pressure to mask! They wish the government will already recommend to take them off. Sad people need government to tell them to ease on mask wearing

The relationship between Japan and nature continues to this day. In the West, they tended to separate, partly due to the influence of religion, but in Japan they tended to coexist.
We are glad you can also appreciate the natural beauty in Japan too, it really makes the country so special! 😊 thank you! ❤️
Nice video!
Thank you so much! Very happy you enjoyed it!
Planning my Kyoto visit, what area did you stay in the first and second time? Want to make sure we choose accommodations for experiencing old Kyoto.
Hahaha Chanting vending machine !!!
Hahah it was sooo good!!!
Hey man , did someone ever told you , you look just like Jeff bridges, so handsome ❤️
Haha thanks. Normally people tell me I look like Ansel Elgort. I'd prefer looking like Jeff Bridges though lol
@@IfWeGoTono mate , you should be casted for the next Tron series . 🤓

Thank you! :D
Ohh thank you for sharing thus!!

Thank you! ❤️
If it's baking meat on a net or net-like frypan, then it is Japanese yakiniku.
We didn't realize that there was a difference in the grill type - just thought it was how the meet was done!! Thanks for letting us know!!
(~ ̄▽ ̄)~ Ah~ it is so great walking in the autumn Kyoto 🍁🍁🍁🍁 beautiful video around the city!
It was SOOO beautiful!! We're so happy we got to see Kyoto again, at such a wonderful time too!
Thank you!! We loved our visit!

Why u guys didn’t like Kyoto the first time?
Very Nice! Did you guys walk all the way up to the top?
We did!!! Beautiful at Mt. Inari!
How did you make the emoji in your comment? I’ve never seen that one before!!
Mashallah
Thank you!!! :)

Yes!! So good!!
Oh my god ! You hate Kyouto at fast ! Why?
U used Chinese music to Japanese garden, and it’s funny for us Japanese
Hahaha good ear!! Thanks for catching that! We unfortunately have a limited music library that isn't too well categorized!

Hello !
We were still just trying to be respectful
@@IfWeGoTo they wear them for no reason. It’s sad.
@@IfWeGoTo your not Japanese you don’t need to wear them. My Japanese friend wished they didn’t feel the pressure to mask! They wish the government will already recommend to take them off. Sad people need government to tell them to ease on mask wearing
@@fannieharvey113 We just wore them out of respect when in crowded areas as most people were.
