*Came in very handy on my last 10 day trip keeping my 500 topped off at all times accessories for the electric **Generater.Systems** so I could fun my fridge!!*
In my personal opinion, if you need a power bank inside your van, you should rethink your needs and fit the correct number of solar panels and batteries.
Not really, I live in my van but my needs for electric are small. The only thing I'd really ever charge that would require an inverter would be my drill and my laptop and since I rarely use my drill it can be sneakily quick charged whilst having a coffee somewhere leaving only my laptop. Luckily I work, my work are also happy for me to charge things whilst I am there too. However, times I am road tripping when I go away for a few months, one of these would be great regardless of the brand. Too many you tube videos out there make people think they need all the gadgetry and power but you really don't.
@@mike76rob correct ...ive been thinking about converting a van for about 3 years now...it would only be for weekends or the most 4/5 days ...and only for 2 adults and 1 child the van i have is also a daily work van so a permanent camper is not an option....so im thinking this would be a great idea to have power but lets face it most things we use on a daily basis run off a fag lighter.... just throw a blow up bed in the back and a camping stove that runs off my quick release patio gas bottle and a poweroak....some pots and pans, cutlery out the kitchen and we are off ive got friends who have VW campers costing £40,000...and they've been used a few times and still have the plastic on the cooker and hob LOL... they dont even use the rock n roll bed, what they do is use a drive away awning and camp out in that....WTF.... might as well save £40,000 and buy a tent LOL dont get in debt guys for a fashion statement...peace

I can't bloody believe it Mel I had just finished filming a review on the same product when I saw yours. I have had mine now for a couple of months and use it when I'm out in my van training. Awesome bit of kit
I’m quite shocked reading some comments that people get huffy if someone gets a freebie and then reviews it and is totally transparent that it was free and they’re reviewing it out of courtesy, for example the folding solar panel, you didn’t encourage people to buy or make out you had to use it, you said any solar would connect, unbiased and honest, even if people do get stuff for free I would still do second research before committing to buy one - this type of video just helps to inform, keep doing what you do, not everyone likes every video but you have a decent mix. 👍
Thank you so much I really appreciate your positive message especially as so many people are being quite negative about it all I do work hard on my videos comments like this make it worthwhile so thank you 👍🍻👍
That jump start was pretty impressive! I think the PowerOak would be a great addition to many well converted vans. The Expawers for example have theirs in addition to the built in systems on their van "Vinnie". The extra flexibility and portability is really useful to them. Also, if the vehicle battery goes flat, it is a good back up.
I'm liking the look of the Power Oak kit - especially that neat solar panel, my folding one is way too heavy and bulky. The small round 3A 12V sockets are for lights - Goal Zero make some (also do a similar product to Power Oak) as well as others. I have seen a few use a similar product to power their whole van in the US (Exploring Alternatives)- great for camping or power cuts or for using outside at a campsite. Lots of people in the US Hurricane belt have these for emergency power, there are a few different makes & sizes around now 🙂🚐🛠🗺
Hi Mel , have you seen how much that stuff is , you can buy 2 x 110 amp batteries for your van that will far outlast the power oak that costs £2300 at a fraction of the cost , the only thing it has going for it is you can take it out the van and use it , personally just don’t rate them but for some might save all the hard wiring 👍🇬🇧
Really honest appraisal of this product Mel as yours is the first one I’ve watched that explains the full benefits. Most reviews explain that it’s the saviour of all saviours whereas you specifically highlight that it is not the answer for FT van lifers as it takes so long to recharge via 12v cigarette charger and looking at the specs it states that charging via 12v DC would only ever obtain 40% capacity. So well done on that point. Is there a link for the portable solar panels as well? Couldn’t see one. As ever, your reviews are delivered with enthusiasm and passion and gives a really balanced view. Looking forward to seeing your new project updates on here (hopefully) All the best from Mal and Dave in Stoke
Thank you for the positive message I do really appreciate it I have managed to charge mine to 100% using 12v but that was over a real long drive back down south from Scotland 👍😊👍
Mel the smaller (older) Poweroak won't fully charge from a vehicle cig socket , only charges just over half way and the vehicle has to be running and supplying over 14 volts before it will start charging , I know as I have the smaller 400 one , not sure on the new 500 one though , maybe you can test ?
In time like with most things the negative point of these units mainly being the price point will come down, the idea is good and yes idea for someone with a basic build to gain a lot of functionality, do remember people at the moment lithium batteries are expensive in general, things will change as they are mass produced.
Sorry Mel, but my full power setup did not cost that much there overpriced toys, but hay yours is free so good or bad good for you.. keep the videos coming
Hi , I found this video by accident! This is amazing. I also have a camper van like yours being conversion in China. Thanks for the video, it gave me a lot of inspiration!
These wee packs are a great idea and I am still playing with getting one, mostly for keeping my laptop charged when I am on long term road trips. However at the moment I am at work 4-5 days a week so I can charge what I need there which means I can keep my electrics in the van minimal. I would ass though Mel that if you are going to charge that via a normal 12v socket from the main battery then to make sure folk know to upgrade the wiring that the socket uses as it most likely will not be enough to cover the charging the size of battery in that pack.
Hi Mike thank you for the positive message it’s really appreciated I have been changing mine from the 12v socket on long journeys and it’s been fine I don’t think you got anything to worry about 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld That's good to hear, I am no 12v guru but I assumed that the size of the battery within the unit would take more amperage to charge it. Maybe that's an experiment you could try, charge time on what you have and charge time on an upgraded wire... I was thinking of it along the lines of folk don't charge a laptop straight from a 12v lighter socket but through an invertor... Like I sya though, I'm no 12v guru, what I have works and that's enough for me. I think when I head to Europe next year though I'll be getting a portable pack like that.

We plan to go away for maybe up to a month or so. We are obviously complete newbies so your advice would be fantastic. I love watching your videos, keep them coming and stay safe in what is our crazy world at the minute x
Good morning and congratulations on the new motor home if I was you before you go on a long trip I would go away for a week and see how it all works out you may find it’s all ok but saying that the power oak is a great back up I have used mine when my batteries have got low it’s a bit like carrying a spare tire you will be glad you have one when you need it the most good luck with your adventures 👍😊👍
These power oaks are actually what you call solar generators, all in one units originally intended to be used with solar, I Know lots of people do just use them as batteries but to get the most out of them solar is the way

Mine are just about keeping up the one thing about winter is that the fridge doesn’t use as much and I put my milk next to my water tank in the boot so fridge is redundant and I’m only using light and water pump 👍
I mean you may not be paid 'directly' by PowerOak but, if they didn't give you a £500 unit to keep, and there was no risk of them not giving you another one of their products if you were critical of it, and you didn't get some kick back everytime someone bought one, would you really dedicate a whole video to it on your channel? Thing is I believe you believe you are think you are being genuine, but would YOU really buy one if funds were tight knowing that the alternative was just as good if not better, but it just required a little reasearch and freely available knowlege to install... and would it outlast the product you are pushing by simply replacing the battery after a few years??? Being a shill will earn you money in the short term but will it earn you respect in the long run?
Excellent product placement mate .. im excited .. 😎😁..dunn like the sound of this continuous flat batterie .. sonds like a parcidic draw .. get ya amp meter out and hunt it doon .. wouldnt happen in a transit ..😂🤣😂😎no sirree bob
Love your channel tho mate keep up the good work .... nearly finished my first camper myself I think you would like it ... high top transit 2007.... thanks for the reply Mel 👌🏻👌🏻
Did you get one for free too Luke. If they didn't send you one for free would you purchase one with your hard earned cask? I purchased a 150 watt one for around £100.00 and wasted my money on that, I wouldn't be bothered with one again. On board electrics rock in the long run 👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Mel AGM's aren't everything, they are a good battery but well looked after sealed lead acid are great too. It's like everything in life... lets say dogs for example, you don't blame the dog but the owner. Same goes for batteries. Most people don't learn how to treat/take Good care of their batteries. they drain them and with High amp loads to low limits...below 12.2 is low. They charge them wrong or not enough then flatten again then blame the battery. Bad management kills any battery quickly. I have had great success with sealed inexpensive lead acid and a continuous solenoid isolation switch. I would use the same simple proven set up again in another van too if the drive chain allowed. I never have a flat battery in my van.
A lot of negative comments, personally l like product reviews. I'm interested, are the negative comments from your regular viewers?...have a nice weekend
I don't see why they would not be suitable for van lifers as part of a cheap and simple build. I have caravanned for just about 40 years. The first 15 years I was off EHU and just plugged into the back of the car for power. I also carried a 75AH battery for times when we were away for 7 weeks and I had to go into work for a day or so n order that wife and kids had power. That would be ideal. Often the car would drive around 8 miles to 15 a day and that was no problem. To be able to have a back up that I could charge in the car hen out would have been nice as well.
Love you channel Mel. But your hardly going to say anything bad about these Poweroak units..lets be honest..most of the usual suspects have been given these things.. clever targeting on Poweroaks part..

That’s a great question I’ll have to try it out and see I think that would make a good interesting video thank you for the idea I’ll get right on it 👍😊👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld that would be amazing if you could please? My plan was to get a kangoo or belingo and wud want diesel heater but didnt want hassle of electrics thought these poweroaks wud be great! Cant find anyone who has tried it tho!
@@kevinhughes9801 Great question/request, Ive got a Berlingo that I want to use for wild camping at weekends - hope mel does a vlog on the subject
@@whu58 same thing i want to do if we get back to normal. Plus i work fair way from home so thought could stay in it during week whilst working
yes you can , that's what I use mine for .
❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙#supportvanlifers
Not much solar generating at the moment! Solar panels pretty useless until the sun crosses the equator on the 21st March next year !
Mine are just about keeping up the one thing about winter is that the fridge doesn’t use as much and I put my milk next to my water tank in the boot so fridge is redundant and I’m only using light and water pump 👍
I'm waiting for the bluetti AC200, that'll power an induction hob!
Wouldn’t that be nice 👍
I’m going to try and build out a van on a budget and fit this as it’s main power source so time will tell 👍😊👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld Good for you Mel...I really hope you don't go down the Unbox Therapy Channel route...I've really been enjoying your contnet so far.
Bit harsh and judgemental :(
@@christinewood8331 but not unreasonable or inaccurate
At nearly £600 for the Basic model ad £1000’s for the bigger models, the answer is no. Its inverter tech too and that rarely lasts.
Well if it goes bang I’ll let you know 👍😊👍
Excellent product placement mate .. im excited .. 😎😁..dunn like the sound of this continuous flat batterie .. sonds like a parcidic draw .. get ya amp meter out and hunt it doon .. wouldnt happen in a transit ..😂🤣😂😎no sirree bob
Hahaha is my car that I park outside my lockup to keep the door closed I only move it when I want to get in so not ok 👍😂👍
Great video.. nice power packs ... where are the cats 🙀🙀 ???
Thank you buddy cats are safe don’t worry 😉
Too expensive I could get 2 x batteries and good ones for my van for that price
ive unsubbed due to this method of channel
@@DroneHDTV Well most like it , I do I say Mel Keep up the great work brother , Don't change
@@13yearsaprepperr.jtilbury.51 Agreed
@@DroneHDTV and yet you still had to tell everyone 😂 like you wouldn’t have a freebie?
@@DroneHDTV he has done both options, so people have a choice
This is just like the Jackerey in North America
Yes pretty much the same 👍😊👍
Becoming a selling channel? Receiving freebies of that value says yes to many.
I’m being completely transparent about this one
Is the join button the same as patreon?thanks.
Yes it’s very similar thank you 🙏
Are Power Oak the same as Jackery in the USA?
I don’t think there the same company but they do the same thing
I think you should do 1 as a giveaway mate
Loving the channel
Thank you I may just do that 👍
Love your channel tho mate keep up the good work .... nearly finished my first camper myself I think you would like it ... high top transit 2007....
thanks for the reply Mel 👌🏻👌🏻
U beat me to it lol Monday is my power oak vid.
Did you get one for free too Luke. If they didn't send you one for free would you purchase one with your hard earned cask? I purchased a 150 watt one for around £100.00 and wasted my money on that, I wouldn't be bothered with one again. On board electrics rock in the long run 👍

RIP off 500 quid buy 3 decent 130 ah. Batteries for that
Ops sorry buddy at lest you got your AGMs I’m not lucky as you 👍😊👍
@@Martinitsme try carrying 3 130 ah batteries down to the riverbank ,for some portable power when fishing or camping :-)
Mel,that solar panel in Spain works better😂😂😂
I think you could be rite there mate 👍🙏👍
@@BigVanSmallWorld I wish I could...
I thought you was gonna do a giveaway......im to poor to buy one atm x
Oh I’m sorry it’s just so good I want it for myself maybe I’ll give it away if they send me the bigger one 👍

Same as the eco worthy I sent you a message about them looks like you you took it on board where’s my commission 🤨
Cheque in the post 😂
❤️😘
A lot of negative comments, personally l like product reviews. I'm interested, are the negative comments from your regular viewers?...have a nice weekend
Thank you Kat really appreciated have a great weekend too
I don't see why they would not be suitable for van lifers as part of a cheap and simple build.
Iv used mine for all sorts and yes when power is low it’s reassuring to know I have a back up 👍
why dont you some giveaways
I’m going to do a massive giveaway in the summer
yay
Hi Mel, I brought one of these through your link and am so happy with how it works, Brilliant and so easy to use. Thank you
Thank you I’m pleased you are happy with it 👍😊👍
Whatever you do folks, don't use Bluetti (Poweroak) panels. Not weatherproof!
👍😀😢
Sorry didn’t mean the last emoji
Thank you ☺️
Love you channel Mel. But your hardly going to say anything bad about these Poweroak units..lets be honest..most of the usual suspects have been given these things.. clever targeting on Poweroaks part..
It is clever marketing for sure I reject so many other things that companies want to send me it’s incredible
you'd better off buying a new battery
We should start a GOFUND ME for a new starting battery for Mels Van
Free stuff is always good.... QVC channel now...sad
It's a bloody battery.
It’s so much more than that
I am sorry to unsub from your channel as This is pure selling to peopl who dont know they can get this for 100 quid. im off and suggest everyone else does the same - unsubbed
