As a mom of a stillborn baby I kind of love that this challenge will be closer to real life. Sims’ babies never die usually but sometimes our real ones do.
Sugar in Britain was only something the rich really bought and that was that way through the 1500s. The poor or average people would not have bought it commonly. It was a rare commodity. It started gradually being more common in the 1600s as far as I know. Excited to see the play through, I love the other decades one you did!
Ohhh once again. I would recommend your sims becoming friends with the birdtree, once you have become good enough friends, you can purchase the tree yourself and place it on you property. Once you place it, you can befriend that tree, until you are able to choose, help with gardening... When the birds help you, they take all the bugs, which mean you don't have to do that yourself, and your simmers won't be running around with those weird looking bugsprays.
Oh no!! I'm so sorry you lost your savefiles!! That is so sad! I always backup my savefile because of this fear! I'm excited for this challenge, though!
If you are interested, in Mod the Sims, DaleRune has created a Greek God scenario, and has several generations linked somehow. Thought that might be interesting.
I was so excited to see this pop up in my feed today! Great start so far. I'd love to see your spreadsheets periodically to see how the family is progressing. Also, I hope we can visit with the side families like you did in the Decades challenge. Looking forward to the next episode!
Jen, by "only having likes and dislikes", I believe she meant to start with. You cannot choose anything but color preferences to start. The rest you develop over gameplay. And it will be hard not to get attached. Here is an example of my first attempt at this challenge: Peter was my main Sim. His parents were Isaac and Malle (Malle died as soon as the game began). Peter married Emma ((both were teens). Peter has two brothers: Everard and Gilbert (both also married, to Eva and Edith respectively - - and yes, all names were rolled for, too.) Peter and Emma had Isolda (who managed to survive until childhood- I haven't gotten further yet). They had a set of twin boys next, Gilbert (lived) and Godfrey (not live). Then they had another girl, Beatrix (survived to Toddler so far), but then Gilbert didn't live to Toddler. Then a girl, Hawisia Rose (named for a deceased cousin). She is an infant. So, no boys in this main family yet Everard and Eva had Malyna. Then Hiwasia. Malyna passed away at this time (before toddler). Then Hiwasia passed away. The parents had Gemma who is now a toddler. Then they had Alan who didn't survive birth. No males in family 2. Gilbert and Edith had Herbert, didn't survive. Then they had Cecilia, didn't survive. Then they had twins: Malle Rose (named for deceased grandmother) and Emma Rose (named for living main female). These are now toddlers. Then they had Annabel who is an infant. So no surviving males in any of the three families, sigh. Also, as you see, if I reroll a name, I give the second person a middle name to remind myself they were "named for" someone else. I have had much heartbreak in this challenge and my Mom convinced me to try again fresh. This time I named my people after CSI characters in various CSI shows, again rolling on a chart of CSI show names. Gideon was grandpa (his wife died immediately but her name was Elle). His sons were Mac (married Stella, main couple), Horatio (married Calleigh, 2nd couple), and Gilbert (married Catherine, 3rd couple). Mac and Stella had daughter, Marisol. Then daughter Sara. Then Mac and Stella both died aging up. I was devastated. I realized I'd rolled on the wrong chart and rejoiced. Rerolled on the proper chart and they lived. Then Stella gave birth to triplets and Mom was saying how it would be lucky to even have one baby, let alone the mother, live. And, the dice agreed. I lost Sidney and Carmen and was able to keep Jennifer of the triplets. So, they had three daughters. Horatio and Calleigh had Danny (deceased), then Kate (lived) then Ivana (lived). So, they have two daughters. I'm starting to get flashbacks to my original family and Mom is telling me to bring the others back to life and stop doing morbidity rolls. I refused. Gilbert and Catherine had Chad (lived), Timothy (lived- thank God as Speed was always my favorite), then Sergei (lived). So, my tertiary family has three living sons. At that point, I went back to my original save for this challenge and am keeping CSI in reserve. After nearly loosing Mac and Stella, I wasn't risking Speed, lol. My point is, lot of morbidity in this game, right from the start. The back up families are very important. And, be prepared to lose the occasional woman in childbirth. Added to this if you use a disease or illness mod, you won't have any Sims left. I say leave out morbidity mods and use the rolls only. I have also f0und that to get the gravestone for any of my children, toddlers, infants, I need to age them up to teen, then strike them down, then click on their ghost and age the ghost back down (and adjust clothing in CAS to match the era). This means my infants are toddlers ghosts, but at least I get the graves and have the option of releasing the spirits. I always engrave the epitaph with name and year of birth, year of death. For example: MacKenna Taylor, 1284 - 1302.
did you get the sign post with the cookbook that allows you to go foraging and hunting by littlebowbubs its good way to get meat and seeds loving the series cant wait for more
OMG YAY you followed my suggestion!!!! I'm so excited to see this yessss. btw people looked a lot older back in the day due to sun damage (sunscreen wasn't a thing) Fun facts: 1) chimneys weren't invented until the tudor era (1500s) 2) loft bedrooms were quite normal for children. Adults often slept downstairs in the same room as they ate and hung out. Oftentimes, adults and children shared bedrooms, and there wasn't much taboo about woohooing in front of children until the victorian age - woohoo was just a part of life. 3) Outbuildings often had cisterns (like outhouses) where chamber pots were dumped, so what you did is relatively accurate. Baths were done indoors in the kitchen or in the river. 4) Floors were made out of rushes which were swept away every few months or so. Rugs didn't really exist, they'd have gotten super gross very fast. 5) Only the rich and monasteries had books until the printing press was invented a century and change later. Even afterwards, literacy wasn't very high among peasants.
I'm starting this same challenge for the first sims videos on my channel. I'm so excited to get them uploaded and started (UPLOADING THE FIRST TWO VIDEOS TODAY!) :) I'm way new to making these videos, and I am loving your regular decades challenge. Thanks for sharing!!
I absolutely love your videos lol I know in the other decades challenge you used a cow plant for the wars in stuff, when you get to those times, there's actually a draft mod you sign selected Sims up for, it will be random on who survives and such. Just thought Id throw that up if you're interested.
I’m so sorry to hear about your two lost games, but I’m very existed to watch you take on this challenge! I do have to correct you on the holidays though. Twelfth night as a festival was already mentioned in 567 AD at the Council of Tours and was the night on or after the twelve days of Christmas (customs vary here on whether it was 5 or 6 January). Twelfth night is also the title of a romantic comedy written by Shakespeare around 1600, so maybe you were confusing the holiday with that? May Day is a bit trickier still, but according to “The Stations of the Sun: A History of the Ritual Year in Britain” the earliest records of maypole celebrations in England date to the 14th century. So it’s perfectly fine to keep those holidays in! Lammas Day would be an appropriate and fun holiday to celebrate in August by baking bread from your new grain harvest. Michaelmas in September was also a tradition since the early medieval period. There were many many many more holy days though... Basically they worked hard and partied hard. 😁 James and Isabel are an adorable couple! I can’t wait to see their cute little babies.😊
Ohhh, lol I did get Twelfth night festival confused with the Shakespeare play! Hahaha I was very tired when I looking all this stuff up! Thanks for setting me straight I will add those to the calendar! Thanks for watching! 🥰
I am so excited for this!!!! I am almost finished watching your first decades challenge and am currently in the 1920's on my own game. I love history mixed with Sims!!!! plus you keep company through my work day
A historical themed neighborhood is difficult to pull off because one has to search everywhere for themed custom content and mods that will fit the time period. The original Decades challenge is actually more suitable for a mod-free game because one can find a ton of Victorian dresses in Get Famous expansion pack and maybe Vampire game pack and maybe that’s it? It is possible to do a mod-free variant of the Decades challenge if you have certain packs, and you make your Sims behind the times. For gameplay, you may vote on specific NAPs affecting the specific neighborhood, and you may go off the grid. If you have Bust the Dust, then you have to generate electricity to use the vacuums or else you have to do a lot of stomping on the dust bunnies. 😊
Also! I had the same issue with the cooking. You need more counter space in order to do some of the recipes. The fireplace stove works fine. For some reason the recipes want 2 available spaces to be used. I added 4 countertops and then that solved any issues they were having with trying to cook.
Hey Jen! Glad you’re back! I’m looking forward to this challenge and what you have planned🥰. Still kinda sad about the greek god and history challenges getting deleted but I know whatever you decide to play will be amazing👏🏼. Hope you’re keeping well, take care🤍 x
I found you through your original decades challenge! I'm so excited to be able to watch you from the very beginning. I'm already so intrigued from the title being "Nothing but death" XD
Awesome ! I am so excited to see this...its looks to be amazing. I ran into your decades challenge after I started mine oh so long ago...and i was looking for inspiration on how others did the challenge. well i stopped mine because watching yours was so much more fun!!! And now we get round 2 :-O
Regarding the likes and dislikes. You don't have to turn it off, whenever there comes a notification regarding a like or dislike you have two options to click on. One of them and the one you always click on, is the one that agrees and make it either a like or dislike, the other one ignores it and they don't get a like or dislike. Now regarding colors, in my opinion they are very hard to come up by themselves, so you will probably have to go up in create a sim, up where you can pick aspirations, the selection for like and dislike is as well, and then you can simply pick it yourself.
The word “peasant” in English refers to an agricultural worker. The worker may be landed and educated and have a bit of money, but the essence is that the peasant family lives in the countryside, not the big city, and would probably be very traditional. There are equivalent terms in other languages and societies, but the English word has evolved with the English people. 😊
I want to do this but it seems so complicated. I was overwhelmed just reading the information page, not including all the rolls and the cc and the mod. I think I might pass on it.
The way I understood it was that was for the kids we have that don't become the heir, like the side households except the first sides that you start out with. But I will double check to be sure! Thanks for watching! 🥰
So I just check because I honestly couldn't remember, we do baby rolls for all of our sims who aren't the heirs to see how many babies they can have. (not counting our starting side sims) The heirs can have as many as they want, but you can only try once a day for a baby.
Love your videos, but I am quite sad you did not pick the Extreme Decades Challenge by StephKayCee or Stephandminnie on twitch and RUclips. So far my favorite version❤️ Also Morbid took a lot inspo from Steph, like a lot, both death and aging wise
I’m so sorry but you having the sims tell each other “it’ll get better don’t you worry” after someone died is so funny to me because imagine if someone said that to you irl after a loved one died like lmao they’re already dead I’m not worrying
As a mom of a stillborn baby I kind of love that this challenge will be closer to real life. Sims’ babies never die usually but sometimes our real ones do.
There are mods that add in chances of miscarriage for realism. Idk about stillborns tho.
Oh, this is gonna be fun. The medieval gossip is freaking hysterical.
Sugar in Britain was only something the rich really bought and that was that way through the 1500s. The poor or average people would not have bought it commonly. It was a rare commodity. It started gradually being more common in the 1600s as far as I know.
Excited to see the play through, I love the other decades one you did!
Have them keep bees. Honey would be a medieval substitute for sugar.
So excited for this I also have a suggestion maybe you can use you sims in the original decades challenge and give them a 1300s makeover
Plot twist: this family is related to the aimesworths
I definitely love makeover videos. The idea of WHAT IF.
Ohhh once again.
I would recommend your sims becoming friends with the birdtree, once you have become good enough friends, you can purchase the tree yourself and place it on you property.
Once you place it, you can befriend that tree, until you are able to choose, help with gardening...
When the birds help you, they take all the bugs, which mean you don't have to do that yourself, and your simmers won't be running around with those weird looking bugsprays.
omg YES this is my favorite Sims challenge of all time!!!! i'm in 1356 and trust me the deaths are only just beginning lol
So excited for this series!! Thanks for putting all the effort into the setup. I just love watching your period game play
I'm so excited for this series!
I was almost to the 60's in my decades and I lost my saves, so I feel your pain.
I’ve watched your original decades in full a couple of times! You inspired me to do my own and I looove it, this is awesome.
I've just stumbled across this channel today and I'm so happy I did! This looks like a really interesting challenge, excited to follow this along 😊
Oh no!! I'm so sorry you lost your savefiles!! That is so sad! I always backup my savefile because of this fear!
I'm excited for this challenge, though!
Yeah, I have them backed up now! lol I've learned my lesson! Thanks for watching! 🥰
If you are interested, in Mod the Sims, DaleRune has created a Greek God scenario, and has several generations linked somehow. Thought that might be interesting.
MCC command lets you set age span duration to whatever you want it to be. That way you don't have to remember when to age them.
“Im not going to get attached to my sims!” Suuuure 😂
I was so excited to see this pop up in my feed today! Great start so far. I'd love to see your spreadsheets periodically to see how the family is progressing. Also, I hope we can visit with the side families like you did in the Decades challenge. Looking forward to the next episode!
I love this new challenge. So glad to see you're really enjoying it.
This is adorable but i'm just at the shopping and not getting meat because they're poor but getting sugar made me giggle at how luxurious that is
Jen, by "only having likes and dislikes", I believe she meant to start with. You cannot choose anything but color preferences to start. The rest you develop over gameplay. And it will be hard not to get attached. Here is an example of my first attempt at this challenge:

loving the series cant wait for more
I'm not sure. I will definitely have to check and see about that because I would love to have my sims go hunting and foraging! Thanks for watching! 🥰
I'm excited to see another series of the Decades Challenge! 🙂
I just wanna say, your videos are very soothing even with the simnanigans that happens sometimes. Keep it up!
Episode one already has drama and I’m loving it!

I'm starting from the beginning until the latest video and l miss these videos
I’m so hype for the new series! And, as always, inspired to take on the challange myself as well

Hey jen were do u get all the mods and cc for this challenge I loved your decades challenge too
I just started this challenge a couple weeks ago myself! I cross my fingers my second heir can make it to adulthood.
I tried playing om HOB but my god it was unplayable for me still and had to do a new save on a different world)
hi! what cc outfit do you use for james' everyday outfit?:0 ive been trying to find one for it, but ive been unsuccessful. i hope you have a good day!
Which reshade preset do you use? It´s beautyful.

How do you go hunting? 😮😊

Love your videos, but I am quite sad you did not pick the Extreme Decades Challenge by StephKayCee or Stephandminnie on twitch and RUclips. So far my favorite version❤️
