  • I visit Singapore for the second time, talking about why I think it's one of the best places in the world. I venture over to Sentosa Island, before heading to my favourite hawker centre in downtown and tasting my first ever Singapore Sling at the Long Bar (where it was invented).

I'm Jason, a full-time British Travel Vlogger and RUclipsr who's been to 61 countries. I've been travelling around the world full-time since 2017.
I have travel series' from many of the world's best (and least) known destinations. I filmed the first vlogs on my channel in the summer of 2016 after spending a year living in China. A proper solo trip around Eastern Europe followed after graduating from University in the summer of 2017, taking me to Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia and Kosovo. This marked the start of my efforts to turn vlogging into a full-time job.
After that European trip I explored much of Asia: visiting India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea and Kazakhstan.
I have also travelled to North Africa and the Middle East fairly extensively over the last five years, filming videos in Turkey, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine.
I've travelled to North America just once as a RUclipsr, visiting Mexico in 2021. Though I have been to both the USA and Canada, this was as a child on family holidays.
In 2022, I took my first trip to Sub Saharan Africa, visiting Kenya and Tanzania, before heading to the Middle East, stopping in Dubai and Lebanon. Europe followed, covering both the Greek and Turkish sides of Cyprus, and afterwards going back to Italy for the second time to cover Milan and Sicily. I then visited the Caribbean for the first time, covering the Dominican Republic, before heading to both Brussels and Amsterdam, then covering Taiwan and the Philippines in Asia. I finished off the year with a trip around Morocco.
I started my travels in 2023 by finally visiting Paris, taking the Eurostar from London. I then headed over to Qatar for a few days, before heading to the south of India.

I agree, Jason, that Singapore is a great traveler’s stopover experience. I’ve spent a couple of days there 4 different times. Love what there is to see and do in various areas of the city, its natural beauty (trees and vegetation), and cleanliness. Adding some meals at the Hawker’s Market to my list next time. Changi airport continues to be my favorite airport in the world.

Indeed. Travel magazines rate Changi again and again as the world's best airport. It's seen lots of expansion since it opened in the early 1980s and will expand further. Meanwhile at Heathrow it took 20 years (after endless planning enquiries, construction etc) just to build T5. Heathrow's third runway was mooted in the late 1940s and still is not built (and probably never will be) !

Thank you for the video, I found out that investing is not for everybody, you just need a strong stomach too see your portfolio go down. It might be wiser for a novice to start with copy trading investing, but it is not easy. To invest in growth stocks it is another level, definitely you need to know what are you doing.

From my own point of view, you need to invest smartly if you need the good things of life. so far i've made over $255k in raw profits from just 6 months into the market from my diversified portfolio strategy and i believe anyone can do it you have the right strategy, mutual funds takes long time but investing smartly is the key for short term. Most of us tend to pay more attention to the shiniest position in the market to the cost of proper diversification.

I can correctly say she's worth her salt as a financial advisor as her diversification skills are top notch, because i see that in her results as my portfolio grows by averages of 10 to 15% on a monthly basis, unlike i can say for my IRA which has just been trudging along, my portfolio just mirrors what she trades and not just on some particular industries of my choosing.

@17:21 you spoke on the defence of Singapore and how the British did not think the Japanese would attack. Actually in the run up to the war, the British were very aware that the Japanese might attack, and the plan prior to the beginnings of the war was to enact a "Singapore Strategy" where Britain would build a huge naval base at Singapore to protect Australia from the Japanese. However, over time, Britain's focus and commitment slowly eroded and the huge naval base and armada that was planned, eventually were reduced to two capital ships (Prince of Wales and Repulse) that was quickly sunk by the Japanese, as a prelude to the conquest of Malaya and Singapore. But you are correct that by 1942, Britain was in a fight for their very own survival and could not spare the men or machines to defend their far-flung colonies in the Far East. Thus, Singapore fell - despite Churchill's orders to Percival the officer in Charge of Singapore's defence, not to surrender. The Australians felt very betrayed by Britain's callousness and the Wavell Report tried to blame the Australians for the defeat in Singapore. Or something like that.

    • @NoohCee
      @NoohCee Год назад

      Further relevant points:
      1. The defeat was largely due to incompetence. The allied forces in Malaya and Singapore outnumbered the Japs by several times. The allied force are also much better equipped. The allied forces are badly organised, lead, and commanded. The logistics were chaotic. There was also no will to fight. The allied forces quickly retreated upon contact. In fact, if the British hold back the surrender by one day, the Japanese would have ran out of ammunition, food and water.
      2. British organised the main defence fortifications in the south of Singapore. Japanese attacked from the North.
      3. The British Air force was pulled back to UK prior to Japanese invasion.

Hi Jason! Love all your videos! (This one included). I learned from your video that I really do want to visit the Marina, Chinatown, and Central Singapore City but definitely do not care to visit Sentosa Island. Reason? I live in Orlando, Florida, and your video segment resembled 'International Drive' here in Orlando, which is the last kind of place I would care to visit on the other side of the world. The other places in Singapore appeal to me a great deal though. Also, the 'Singapore Sling' you had at the Long Bar is at the Raffles Hotel. I was a little curious as to why you did not mention the name. I think I can guess, but will just leave it at that. Best!

I think the best time to visit Sentosa would be during Halloween, there is an annual Universal Studios Haunted House event which is very popular. Each year the theme is different. On the main island there are also nightly ghost tours. If you do drink, note that alcohol is very expensive in Singapore so what cash strapped locals do is to have a few drinks from 7-11 convenience stores or the Kopitiams (local coffeeshop) before getting to the party joint. If you do pub crawls in Singapore be prepared to fork out a lot of $. If you want to buy toiletries , fruits, small eats go to NTUC/Sheng Siong supermarkets. These are the cheaper options.

If you like history abt POW, its a must to visit Changi Chapel and museum that is located not far from changi airport. Anyway just Google changi village, its more laid back from the hustle and bustle of the city. Plenty of food and nice ambience.

Hi Jason, English is not Sg National Language. Our National Language is Malay. Standard British English is our working & official language and taught as first language in our schools. Mother tongue (Chinese, Malay & Tamil) are taught as 2nd language is schools. As such, we have 4 official language, they are English, Chinese, Malay & Tamil. Standard English is the uniting language for our multi racial & multi cultural society. But as our racial harmony progress we develop / evolve our own colloquial spoken English, which is Singlish (a mix of various language without the proper grammatical structure of standard English).

17:10 Indian National Army was formed in 1942 under Rash Behari Bose by Indian POWs of the British Indian Army captured by Japan in the Malayan campaign and at Singapore. Rash Behari handed over INA to great Subhas Chandra Bose. he set up provisional government for free India in Singapore. then started the war of indian independence from the British. it was one of the most Epic battle with very little help from the Japanese. after Japan surrender at the end of world war 2 the battle of INA also ended and the soldiers were captured by British army. Brits decided to conduct a public trial on 3 commanders of Ina-Dhillon, Sahgal, Khan. as the news of Netaji with his Army fought against the British spread the entire British Indian Navy revolted in 1946. because of this already weakened British army because of WW2 could not hold onto India and they left in 1947. in 1956 when British pm Clement Attlee came to India then Bengal Governor asked him why British leave India. to which Attlee replied that the role played by Netaji army was paramount for India's Independence.

I'm not sure it really mattered. Part of the deal for American help in WWII was to release all the colonies that UK controlled overseas so even if that did not happen, Britain would have had to release India anyway. Examples of this include Palestine, South Africa and Malaysia, there were no epic battles there yet in the end they all got released from British rule anyway because it was part of the deal with the US.

To become a citizen you have to be Singaporean first and then your personal cultural, relgious identity second and for this reason it works. In fact, in Singapore, when her colleagues introduce her as an "American" without the race, she had a kneejerk rejection before she realized that, yes she WAS American.

Visit both Hong Kong and S'pore and you would realise they are quite different places. Singapore has changed so much over the years. I first visited in the 1970s (before Changi opened) and it was such a sleepy place ! Obviously S'pore has changed since but it's still different.

You can rent a car. Not the cheapest option for travel as the public transport is much cheaper and very good. To rent a car though, you’ll need a valid driver’s licence. If you want to play it safe, get an international driver’s permit.

Thanks for producing this video, Jason. I first visited S'pore in 1973 and although I made repeat visits many times in the following years it's now 30 years since I was last there. So many changes ! Good that you stayed outside the downtown area. Decades ago that was the only place with western-standard hotels so, again, big changes. As for Changi ... the Singaporeans emulated Amsterdam Schiphol for its terminal design (although Changi has been expanded since and will see further expansion in the years ahead) and home airline SIA has a business plan based around carrying transfer passengers (just like KLM). Perhaps my only complaints are the draconian laws and the fact that Singapore's govt only tolerates overseas visitors to stay for a limited time ... after which it wants them to leave !

Hi Alex Singaporean here. 30 years is a long time and Singapore is a totally changed place. Laws are draconian to those who break it - especially drug traffickers. Other than that, it is pretty chill. And Singapore welcomes visitors and wish they stay long and spend money here. I was born here is 1962 and from my house, I could see nothing except a small building. Today, it is a highly developed country. Please visit Singapore and try the hawker food (Maxwell hawker and Chinatown hawker are good starting points) - you will not be disappointed.
