Thank you for tuning into my Channel where I'm documenting my journey as we learn to speak my native GARIFUNA language. A little bit about myself, I was born and raised in Dangriga, Belize where I spent 20 years. After moving to the states, I lost touch with my culture in a major way and I recently realize the enormous importance of not only speaking but teaching about my culture. My main educators are my Grandmother Lucille Paulino, Mother Mrs. Juanita Nunez Gomez, Mr. Cassian Nunez, Andy Palacio and Mrs. Gwen Nunez Gonzales. The following is the written letters of the alphabet in Garifuna. Notice anything about the vowels?

Seremei! My studies have shown that the structure of our language that combines Arawak, Carib, African and French influence does not require the utilization of the omitted letters. Our language does not lack expression which adds to it's richness.
