    I really enjoyed your review of these reeds. I had a problem with storing them in those sleeves. If your not careful when sliding them in the sleeve you can damage one of the wings, its an expensive mistake.
    I use a simple standard Reed Guard and so far no accidental damage.
    I'm a jazz clarinetist and a doubler. The wonderful thing with these reeds is they don't dry out and warp when my clarinet hasn't been used for while when I'm on saxophone. No reed rigamortis when Its time to play clarinet. Also, they project!! Sometimes the do slide out of position on the mouthpiece more than a cane reed. I spent so much time time adjusting cane clarinet reeds these are a Godsend. they play at the gig exactly the way they play at home. You have a beautiful sound on clarinet.

    I picked up a VENN reed for my clarinet. I play a Selmer Paris Presence with a Selmer Echo Mouthpiece with a JVL Ligature. I notice that the reed's smoothness the reed to slip on the mouth piece regardless of how tight I fasten the ligature. Do you have any pointers? Please help!

      Hi! The reed is slippery for everyone, but I would make sure that you wet the bottom end of the reed so that it adheres to the table of the mouthpiece. Otherwise, just hang in there!

    Thanks so much for the review. Looks like something I might try. A (somewhat unrelated) question: Do you know if the Grand Concert (Select) line still exists? They used to be easy to find, but as I'm getting back to playing it seems like they may have been discontinued (or maybe rebranded?).

    • @cleverclarinetist

      Hi! D'Addario has been "rebranding" Grand Concert Select reeds as the Reserve Evolution reeds (yellow packaging). Have you tried them?

    Have you seen any fraying of the reed? I had a Venn reed about 18 months ago and it frayed like crazy and one of the threads stuck into my lip. I love D'Addario products otherwise and use their Evolution X5 mouthpiece. I also use pretty much all of their products on my guitar. They have quality products which is why I was shocked by the Venn. Given the price of the Venn reed, I'm hesitant to buy another until I know the fraying problem is resolved. That said, the sound quality of the reed was excellent and consistent.
    Love your channel. 😊

      Hi Kristen! I have not seen any fraying, but I’ve been told that this is a known issue that should be corrected in the latest generation of Venn. D’Addario made some moves in their manufacturing process to make it happen!

      @@cheweymutt I only had the reed a day when it stuck me in the lip. I'm not much into lip piercings myself. 😋 So, I didn't use the reed for more than a day but it was about 18 months ago that I bought it and then tossed it in the rubbish bin.

    Is there a visual way to tell from the reed and/or packaging if one has a 2nd generation Venn?

    • @cleverclarinetist
      @cleverclarinetist  2 года назад +3

      I know that reeds you get from retailers should be 2nd gen because D'Addario did a bit of a recall on gen 1 reeds. Gen 2 boxes also have a sticker on them that says "New Design"
