I think Jungkook's performance of five songs in *Times Square* is the best representation of him as an artist. You'll see him sing while dancing, you'll see his stage presence and him interacting with the crowd. The show was a surprise too. It was only officially announced 30 minutes before it began, but ARMY, being detectives as always, figured it out a couple of hours beforehand from the barest hints and was already filling out the space. By the time the show started, the place was packed. Jungkook's album "Golden" include a variety of pop genres. Other members explore other genres, they're all very different artists. If you like rock, maybe try J-hope's "More". I think you'll have fun exploring at least one song from each member. All BTS's MV are of great quality, but I particularly like Agust D's "Daechwita" because it has a story line, shot in a gorgeous traditional set, and has Korean traditional elements. It's a rap song though, I don't know if you're into that. You mentioned "mariachi". BTS has a Latin pop song called "Airplane pt. 2". (I'm sorry, we ARMY tend to throw a lot of song recommendations at reactors. We can't help it, BTS has so many good songs! Just pick something you think you'll enjoy.)
Thanks for all the suggestions. I just did my first rap reaction last week. I'm not a huge rap fan honestly. But I'm trying to broaden my horizons. I might have to check out that New York Times performance. What do you think would be the best song from that set?
@@pigskinpoetryyou should watch the whole miniconcert at times square at night. You ll see the live interaction of him with the audience. I just subscribed to you channel.
@@pigskinpoetry The entire 5 song set. It has his 3 songs (including this one) that have MV's and 2 others from his new album GOLDEN (which is all in English). Also, watch the one on their official channel, BANGTANTV, to make sure you get the complete live performance rather than a fancam.
JK knows the lyrics as the actual words, not just sounds. He's been taking English lessons on and off for several years. He is not fluent but has gotten better and better. Jungkook did mention he worked a lot on singing the lyrics without a Korean accent. He wanted to have an American accent.
Really appreciate your open-mindedness to try out something new/ different/ foreign however you may think of it, and not getting annoyed by us superfans if we throw a lot of information at you!
It's not annoying. It actually gives me an idea for what to do next. For example, a user in this video suggested I do a Dimash Qudaibergen reaction. I had never even heard of him. And because of that comment, I was exposed to an amazing artist I never would have discovered. Keep the comments coming!
Yes, but that's not "live, live" - it was recorded live. The Times Square is the best example of a truly live performance of this song with an audience, or his Tonight Show performance was also good.
You were so on point when you said that The music video was inspired from Romeo Juliet - and even BazLuhrman praised the project and JK. JK is really a big artist in many ways - he is a creative mind and genius - he draws, paints, designs- you can see the artistic mindblowing details in every work he does- he is a perfectionist. He also has the perfect pitch, and extraordinary ability of singing while dancing so powerfully and his lives are so perfect - mostly even better than studio records.. In this song he paid homage to Michael Jackson that he really loves- but of course all of his songs are not like that… but his aura and artistic presence really reminds me of Michael 🤍, so unfortunate taht he has to leave the stages for 18 months for military- such a big loss😢
Jungkook (also known as JK) said that after recording another song Seven, the producer played this song for him and asked him if he wanted to do this song. He took it home, practiced that night, and came back the next day and recorded the song in 3 hours in a language he’s not fluent in. He ended up recording his whole album in just days. 3 hours a day. That’s crazy. His band mate even said it took him (the band mate) 3 days to record one song 😂. I’m not an expert in music, but many ppl have said JK is a musical genius. Including his bandmates and producers that worked with him I also really liked his live performance of this on iheart radio. I recommend checking that out too. You can see his true strength as an artist singing and dancing live. The director of the video is Tanu Muino. She even said the video is inspired by Romeo and Juliet (Leonardo version). She’s worked with other big artists too You will be surprised that BTS has a lot of heavy metal fans. There’s a video by Boracity Magazine titled something like “BTS are rockstars” which explains that phenomenon. I do think BTS is better live. You can feel their energy, passion, emotions through the screen. That’s one of the reasons why heavy metal fans gravitate towards them
That's wild that she said it was inspired by Romeo and Juliet. I noticed immediately the similarities, but didn't think they took it as a direct reference point. It looks great though.
As soon as you said El mariachi I thought of 'airplane pt.2' which is a BTS song full of Latin rhythm and has a Korean and a Japanese version to the song
You should definitely watch some live performances of this song Jungkook is known for sounding exactly like his recording since he has perfect pitch, he performed in times square a few different songs off his album, him as well as the other BTS members are amazing performers. As for him learning to mouth the song with the recording he learns the songs completely. He did a song called seven all in english and they released a video of him recording and he talks a lot about wanting to get the pronunciation of the words correctly. Also the director wanted to get the feel of the romeo and juliet movie the person you mentioned made (i don't know how to spell his name) but the director drew inspiration from that movie. Loved the reaction and hope you keep reacting to jungkook and the rest of BTS if you're interested. I was raised on country, classic rock and christian music but BTS has become my favorite artist of all time.
I have a lot of people in my comments who say they used to like country or rock, and now BTS are their favorite. I hope I did enough to earn your subscription. Stick around and there will be more in the future.
I have definitely subscribed, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the performances of this song but I think the times square performance is the one to check out because you can get a feel for his stage presence and it has decent audio, as well as getting introduced to a few more of his songs. He does five in that performance.
@@pigskinpoetryBaz Luhrman liked this MV. The director of the MV said she pictured Jungkook as Romeo so she drew inspiration from Baz's film. As the others have said, Jungkook (he also goes by JK) is amazing live.
hmm,, hard to pick😂 all of them are good, but I hope you react to his Time square performance (full performance )and hear other song as well, he performed 5 songs😊
I like him live on I Heart Radio singing Standing Next to You. Live band behind him and no other dancers. He kills it. His name is Jung like hung and Kook like cook or you can just call him JK.
It's so funny that you said mariachi because they have a latin inspired song, named airplane pt2, where they mention "el mariachi" several times in the chorus
He has been learning proper English pronunciation since he was a little kid. He auditioned when he was 13. He was 15 when BTS debuted. He sings all the time. He has a great voice. Not as good as Dimash Qudaibergen, but then again no one can be as good as Dimash… but JK is really really good.
Check out Born Singer, it's one of their rap heavy songs, like 80% rapping. No music vid, check out their 2015 live performance. The channel mar 21 has it posted with English subtitles. Outro Tear by the 3 rappers is one of their rap songs too, one of the best BTS songs imo. No music vid again, check out their Wembley live performance. The channel cutiemulletV has it posted with English subtitles
@@pigskinpoetryThere's several artists under their label, Hybe. So, many of the Kpop artists take English lessons during training. However, BTS and a solo artist were the only people that were under the label (formerly known as Big Hit. Big Hit still keeps a separate part of the company only to manage BTS). BTS literally built their label to the conglomerate that it is now. They bring in approximately $5 billion to South Korea in merchandise, concerts and mostly tourism dollars each year.
@@pigskinpoetrynope, not a lie. Between $3billion and $5billion is the calculated annual contribution of BTS to the South Korean economy for the last several years. Upwards of a quarter of inward tourism to SK in 2022 was BTS related. These seven young guys represent about 0.3% of the GDP of their country. They are ‘special presidential envoys’ and have diplomatic passports, a measure of the regard their government holds them in.
he's been studying English I think since 2017 or 2018 when they started getting famous globally as well as the other members... he can now understand some, he can also form some sentences... he came a long way 😊
I like the one he did on Jimmy Fallon. He pronounces his name Jung-Guk but I think he prefers JK. He also doesn’t mind Jungkook with emphasis on both Ks.
Check the live performance at Jimmy Fallons if you want to see him dancing as a god. You can also check the iheart radio performance where he is more into the singing
This song included a lot of intentional references to MJ as an homage. The backing vocals and ad libs are also him singing. No, his songs do not all sound like this. His album, Golden, for instance, includes multiple genres. Nikita Kuzmenko was the cinematographer for this video. The director, Tanu Muino, has said that she drew inspiration from the 1996 Romeo and Juliet movie for this video.
@@pigskinpoetry almost all of kpop songs have English mixed in with the Korean. Some verses and phrases in English or the chorus in English. I would suggest BTS Festa 2021 or BTS Tiny Desk concert. All of their songs have English mixed into Korean.
@@pigskinpoetry also they recorded a song with Coldplay and also they speak a little bit of English on all of their US tv interviews like Tonight Show, etc.
Thanks for the info. I might look for one of the videos someone mentioned about him practicing English. As an English teacher, that's interesting to me.
Jungkook es un perfeccionista nato y trabaja mucho en la pronunciación para que sea lo más perfecta posible así como en su baile, practica hasta quedar exausto por la perfección
@pigskinpoetry since they are taking a break from group activities they have all been doing solo projects. One of them is Suga hosts a talk show SUCHWITA and invites guests on were they drink and sometimes eat. He's done over 20 episodes now. All the members have been on separately. Jungkook has actually been on twice. The first time was episode 15. They did the whole show which has had 13 million views, but because he loves singing Suga had a karaoke machine there for him. At the end of the show he was enjoying himself so much he didn't want to leave so he stayed singing whilst Suga left lol. Straight afterwards there was a Noraebang show on, which basically means karaoke. This is where he was eating whilst singing. I think he sang about 6 songs, all different types of genres. It is hilarious. Well worth the watch.
Jungkook live performance much better than the recording. you will be surprised how he can sing with a lip piercing, maybe you will be more surprised when you watch him in his live performance, his voice is stable while dancing, jumping and running
Thank you for your reaction! BTS has so much content it’s really hard to pick where to start! I don’t know what type of music you enjoy but just lightly judging by your username, I would suggest checking out some recent work by RM (leader of BTS) because he is a lyrical genius and a beautiful poet. He released his first album called Indigo which was one of my favorite albums. Maybe check out his song ‘Wildflower’ since it has an official MV and don’t forget to turn on the captions! It’s a beautiful song with stunning cinematography. I look forward to more of your videos. Cheers! 💜 P.S. what song is that playing in the background while you are commentating? It sounds very nice! 😊
Thank you so much. If you check the comments, I told someone else the name of the song and artist. I can't remember at the moment, and I'm not in front of my computer where I have the music. Thanks for liking the music. A lot of others didn't like this one.
Jungkook has been learning English for years. He’s at the stage where he understands more than he can speak. He has perfect vocal pitch and practiced hard for the pronunciation. His album “Golden” is all English and covers many pop genres. You would love them. He’s recently released a remix of “3D” with Justin Timberlake. This Friday there is a remix of “Standing Next to You” with Usher! JK almost always sounds better live. If you want to concentrate on vocals watch his iHeartRadio album release party performance of this song. Otherwise there’s a polished song and dance performance with Jimmy Fallon. Lastly, an impromptu performance at TSX Times Square. I assure you, you’ll want to watch it all.
He is more than likely still learning to mostly sing in English phonetically, but he is learning more and more English all the time and is speaking more English than he used to. So my guess is it's probably a combination of both right now. There are several live performances of this that are now on RUclips that you can watch anythings in English equally well in those. Singing in non-native languages is not particularly uncommon opera singers do it all the time. Dimash is one that can sing well in 15 different languages only two of which are native to him.

Thank you for all the description. I've literally never heard of him. But I always like discovering new things and people. I feel like this could be a future reaction, and your advice is very helpful. Thanks.
This MV was shot in Budapest at a plant . Look for live performances of this song. There are plenty . JK isn’t fluent in english but works super hard on pronunciation . He is Korean and only one way to province his name ‘Jung Guk’. He had had the lip piercing for a long time .
Thanks for your reaction, enjoyed it. Now as to singing live, well, the choice is endless, BTS are FANTASTIC LIVE! Even better than the studio production. And their performances are second to none. I unfortunately have never been able to see them live, but from other Army's who have, who have also been to other artists concerts, they ALL say BTS have no equal (maybe a few exceptions like MJ etc). As we say, these amazing young men are genuine and talented and there is no lip synching etc on stage. They LIVE to perform for Army. So you could pick ANY live performance and you'd be blown away. The most requested usually are their award show performances where they basically have a BTS mini concert, they take over and people actually forget they're performing at an award show! Korean shows are top notch, the Western music industry has nothing to compare, not even Grammy's/Billboard etc. They are insane. As to JK's lives, take your pick but Times Square will probably be the most requested. I particularly liked his Audacy performance as well, but I think that was recorded so maybe for another time. Please react to his live performance at times square. And i agree with another comment, after jungkook you should react to agust d - daechwita music video, the cinematography is insane.
Definitely pronounce the last K!!! Sounds like Jung - cook. Pronounce the J hard J. Perfect would sound closer to chung-guk. Jungkook has perfect pitch and has always been a brilliant mimic. He is learning English but has always been able to sound great covering English songs. He recorded this song in 4 hours. The style is disco funk which is like Earth, Wind and Fire and 70's funk. Bruno likes this style too. The wings in this video are a direct nod to the wings Juliet is wearing in the Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. The director Tanu Muino said she wanted to pay homage to the film and that JK(Jungkook) was her Romeo. 😘💜🫰🏻🫶🏻 He sounds better live. Try the iHeart radio live performance.
Jung Kook ("JK" as we often call him) does not speak English fluently, but I think he understands a fair amount. You'll learn that JK is a very gifted individual. He has incredible control over his body, and he works very, very hard to the point of being a perfectionist. He said that he worked really hard on the pronunciations and inflections, to make sure that it was as close as possible to what US/western artists would do. He even talked about different producers wanting him to pronounce the same words differently. His name is basically pronounced with a soft "ch" for the "J" and a soft "g" for the "k."
The thing with his name it's that the ending is hard for foreigners to pronounce, but basically you would say it like this: Jung (like in *jung*le) + guk (like in *G*ame) with the last k pronounced softly.
Very observant! By now I guess people answered to you most of the questions. I just wanted to comment the lip rings situation. This man is singing live like a God... while grilling and chewing meat (if you continue your journey with him, you will discover this video, too). :D So no, they don't affect his singing abilities in any way.
The "K" is there at the end of Kook but it is a soft k - barely heard - like the k in the middle of "maknae". The J at the beginning is a combination of CH and J in English - while the K is a cross between g and k. Jung Kook has worked very hard to learn to speak English. He knows what he is singing. And the black wings show up in Black Swan, and Blood Sweat and Tears as well.
JK had few live concerts in New York if you did watched. Mr. Pigskin you should watch live shows. The one you are watching is an MV video and not a live show. Concerts and MV's are different.
JungKook has an intermediate level of English and keeps learning. His name is pronounced jang-goog (the K in the middle is like a double G and the K and the end is soft like a G)
Dude: You just earned a “bless your heart” for the “does he mouth the words” comment. I am sure you don’t mean harm but please be judicious with the comments. Continue to enjoy your BTS journey💜
When it comes to BTS, they definitely perform better live. Jungkook's Time Square performance is probably the best one for you to react to if you do want to follow up with a live performance reaction as it showcases both his dance skills as well as the quality and stability of his voice. Also, regarding your music taste, if you want to give more kpop artists a try, there are lots of groups that have more of a rock influence, such as Onewe, Rolling Quartz, or Day6. I'd personally recommend Dreamcatcher since you're also into the cinematography side of music videos.
JONG-GUK. That is how to correctly pronounce his name. Emphasize in pronouncing the J as Jong, not Y (Yong), and G as goat in Guk, also, pronounce the K. Jungkook (Jong Kook)- American-ish Jeongguk - correct romanized version of how it is written in Korean writing
So u were very close the video and song and wings methafor is based on Romeo and Juliette the movie by Boaz Kerman!!! So there I go a little deeper thoughts and u come to the right conclusion and that is referring to jungkook as a singer
I think army gave you wrong idea that Jungkook doesn't speak english at all. He is not fluent but he does understand a lot and can speak in simple sentences. Plus he is great imitator and has great ear. There are compilation of it on youtube.
Some Jungkook facts and info to get to know him better: Main singer in BTS of 7 members (3 rappers and 4 vocals) With English, he is self taught as well as learning English from online courses beginning around 2018 or 2019. He now understands most basic English but still not confident to have long conversations in english. He is like a a third year language learning level where he understands most of it when the language is spoken slowly and his ability to reply. He is fluent in Korean and Japanese (most kpop idols learn Japanese outside of their native tongue because Japan is the second biggest market for kpop so they promote a lot there by guest appearances on shows, concerts, etc...) Given the name Golden Maknae (means youngest in korean) by one of BTS member and leader of BTS. It seemed appropriate to call him the Golden Maknae since JK is the youngest in the group and his "golden" ability to sing, dance and rap, etc... He has a talent to mimic anything and everything which makes him so good without having to learn or train for years. Though he works hard to learn to pronounce and sing every English words correctly for his album, he has innate ability to learn fast. Aside from his talents of learning in a short span to a dance choreography, singing and rapping, other talents are martial arts, boxing and other athletic fields, he can paint, draw, video editing, etc... There's a popular fan made RUclips video of compilations showing his talents and skills called Jungkook is Good at Everything. You can react to that video once you know JK better. He often watches his members characteristics and tease them imitating their behaviours by teasingly mocking them by imitating their singing and dancing, etc.... He is believed to have perfect pitch so that's why he can sing live without ever being pitchy. There's a popular fan made RUclips video called Jungkook Doesn't Know Auto tune that shows JK live streaming in his room singing from fans requests and other moments like he is singing in natural settings outside of concerts and performances. You can react to it when you get to know JK better. Since December of last year, three of BTS members have already enlisted at different times in the required 18 months korean military for Korean young men before they are over 30, so the remaining 4 members which include JK will be leaving for the military together before the end of this year so that by 2025, all 7 members will be able to reunite as BTS as ARMYs around the world wait for and anticipate the return of BTS on the world stage.
You shouldn’t be criticized for your comments being totally unfamiliar with BTS generally, and Jungkook specifically. However, if you WERE familiar with them, you’d know the following things; 1. BTS is widely known for being as good, often better, live than recorded, 2. If you knew their discography, you’d see that Jungkook’s range is unparalleled, 3. Jungkook is a perfectionist, known for criticizing his own performances for things that only he knew about - Charlie Puth, known for having perfect pitch, has often said that Jungkook is one of maybe two artists he’s ever collaborated with that sent him “perfect” vocals, 4. his live performances of songs from “Golden” prove his English pronunciation is outstanding, and yes, he is still learning English, which makes his recording and live performing of an all-English album all the more incredible. Watch his performances at Audacy Live, iHeart Radio Live and his pop-up concert on the TSX Stage in Times Square for the most recent proof. You’ll notice that he sometimes lets the track carry because he often sings his own backup vocals and ad-libs, but obviously has to pick one in live performances. There’s a lot more, but it doesn’t sound like popular music is your sweet spot, but watching those should satisfy your curiosity about many of the questions you posed.
Actually, jungkook to be specific, he can sing in english so fluent and clear like an american even on acapella , but he cant speak fluent and if he does, it is difficult to him, but when it comes about sing, he turns into american pop star😂, thanks to react to him😊
I've seen that in other artists. I've even seen examples where someone had a speech impediment, but when they sang, it was crystal clear. Thank you for watching.
JK and BTS have all adopted the more westernized pronunciation of his name because they realize it's easier for non-Koreans worldwide...so pronounce it like Jung-cook (exactly the way we say the English word 'cook')...... In *native* Korean pronunciation (which we will *never* do well, so that's why JK and BTS made it easier for us), you use a long oo vowel (like in BOO) instead of the short oo vowel (like in cook) & you barely hear the second G/K sound at the end of his name, so to our western ears it sounds like it's not there at all (Jung-koo) The director definitely chose a video theme inspired by Baz Luhrman's Romeo+Juliet, she has confirmed this in an interview or an IG post, I forget which
PLS REACT TO JUNGKOOK's SOLO LIVE PERFORMANCES WITH HIS LIVE VOCALS @ iHEART RADIO WITH A LIVE BAND, NO BACK-UP DANCERS😍Thanks for ur reactions to JK's MV of SNTY😍we love u JK💛
So, how to pronounce Jungkook's name... I suggest searching "Learn How to Pronounce BTS Members Korean Names" in RUclips. There's a video from a channel called Korea Now and a native speaker walks through how to pronounce all the member's names. Basically J's in Korean are pronounced somewhere between a "j" like June and "ch" like chat. Also K's are somewhere between a "k" like kick and "g" like good. Especially the last consonant is often a stopped consonant. So you'll add that final K sound, but it shouldn't be explosive. A phonetic way to say his name may be closer to "Chong Gook" with the Ch in Chong having a hint of a J sound, the G in Guk being a bit sharper to lean into that K sound and that final K being more of a way to stop the OO (like schOOl) sound than being an explosive "K". Not sure if that helped... definitely watch that video to hear it out loud.
His name is pronounced more like "Junguk" the k in the middle isn't heavily pronounced and the 'oo' isn't as harsh. There are helpful videos on how to pronounce his name from Korean speakers on youtube if you think that would help! or just call him 'JK' that's fine too 😊 He works very hard on his English pronunciation, there's a video of him in the studio recording an English song 'left and right' where he does so many takes to get his accent right, etc. Its very impressive!
@@pigskinpoetry The video is called "[EPISODE] 'Left and Right' (Feat: Jungkook of BTS)' Recording Sketch" on the BANGTANTV channel, if you want to watch or react to it 😁
I have two lip piercings and they don’t really cause any kind of problems with mouth shapes. My tongue piercing doesn’t keep me from belting out and producing sounds either. He doesn’t have that though. BTW. I am 51 years old and I am seriously into BTS.
the Kook is pronounced like Goog but the last g is almost silent, in english if you pronounced Goog it would sound like Googah because of the hard G sound, In Korean the K in his name sounds more like a like a mix of G & K, like a soft G, it's hard to explain if you don't know hangul because the sounds are very different from English. I recommend just calling him JK :)
A tip if I may, when you are speaking, the music your playing is quite loud and make it difficult to hear you, not to mention it's kind of confusing as to why you are playing different music while the vid is paused and you are speaking. Thanks for this! Have a great week :)
A few things before I get into Jung Kook's skills: 1) There is a MV Shooting Sketch that shows how they made the Music Video - it's on BangtanTV channel. It was filmed in Budapest and I heard it was filmed at an old power plant or something. 2) If you watch the Times Square (TSX) mini concert, pay attention to right when it starts and you will hear Jung Kook pronounce his own name. He will say something like....Hi, NYC, this is Jung Kook of BTS, let's have fun.... I have always pronounced it with the J and both K's. Some from Korea have said it's actually said like JungGook. I'd go with how he says it in the performance. 3) The wings - they remind me of the wings in BTS' song and MV "Blood, Sweat and Tears" - like a fallen angel. You might enjoy that too, but be sure to put English subtitles on for BTS' MV's as most are in Korean with some English. The lyrics are important in their music. ALSO, they have wings in their MV/song, "Black Swan". Both are excellent. I think the correlation of the wings to Standing Next to You is more like the Blood, Sweat and Tears version though. Now, as for Jung Kook's skills, he Sings Live while doing crazy dance moves too. He does let the backing track take over for some parts, but you can clearly hear him singing live. In addition to the TSX concert, I recommend iHeart Radio as well for this same song. It is just him with no backup dancers and with a Live Band. He did 2 songs there - Standing Next to You and also his Platinum hit, "Seven (ft. Latto)". Jung Kook has been the Main Vocalist for the group BTS since he was 15 years old when they made their debut. If you want to know what that means, watch Ida S.'s video on that topic.

BTS have phenomenal MVs in terms of cinematography. This one is definitely an homage to Romeo+Juliet. Baz Luhrmann actually praised it and said it was a really cool homage. If you appreciate cinematography, I highly recommend a couple music videos from fellow BTS members: Daechwita & Haegum by Agust D (they are connected so make sure you watch in that order) & Like Crazy by Jimin 💜

The korean letter for K or G (ㄱ) is pronounced somewhere between k&g the first k/g in kook/guk leans ever so slightly toward "G" while the 2nd (k/g/ㄱ) leans toward "K" but its softened or shortened, like you cut it off halfway thru. It took me a long time to say his name properly (which included having to learn korean) 😂 so it's ok if you want to just call him "JK" 😜 💜 보라해
Thank you for your reaction to JK. Can I give you a little bit of input? I find the background music when you talk is distracting. I want to hear your opinion but it's hard to concentrate to your words. May be if the volume of the background music is lower it's better but as beautiful is the background music, the mood of the music is so much different from Standing Next To You so I feel like when I am already in the mood of it then get pull out of the mood because of the mood change, then the song continue, then when you talk again, the background music distracting my mood and my attention to the music and to your words again. So I prefer no background music when you talk. You can pause the MV when you want to give your opinion like you do in this video. I don't know if other people feel the same as I do or not. But overall, you are doing good. And thank you for giving JK a chance and I hope one day you will give BTS a chance too. If you want JK live performance, you can do his live performance at Time Square. 💜
Thanks for the tip. I've been playing with audio levels for background music. People previously said the music was too quiet, and I think I raised it too much. It'll be lower in the future. Thanks.
I love your reactions I am really curious what you would say about OT7 BTS songs and also the interaction between the members and BTS with their fans. Their music drew me in but their personalities and bond made me stay. Also I know it is confusing of how to pronounce another language imagine how Jungkook felt when he was recording his songs for the album 😅 he mentioned that he had different producers for different songs and everyone wanted him to pronounce certain words differently 😂 Anyway I have seen other people trying to help you pronounce it and I am giving my two cents ( disclaimer I am not Korean😂) The confusion is real some say pronounce the k at the end some say it is quiet. I say both is somehow right. In Korean the last consonant of a syllable is not fully pronounced like we would in Germanic languages. It’s like you form the last consonant with your mouth (here k) like you want to speak it but you do not follow through you just stop. This mostly affects the oo sound before the k which then stops abruptly. If you just don’t pronounce the k the oo tends to be too long and open. Anyway I hope I could shed some light as to why it can be confusing to pronounce Jungkooks name. Also you can just call him JK 😂 I can’t recommend a life performance of standing next to you because I love every single one for different reasons. I just can’t choose. 💜
@@pigskinpoetry 😂😂😂😂 it totally is a thing! We mean it literally! He ate and sang karaoke at the same time and he killed it. But it was also a little concerning because it didn’t seem to be the first time he did that and it kind of seems dangerous. He could choke you know.
On a previous video, people said the music was too low. I'm trying to find the happy medium. But I hear you. You weren't the first to say the music was a little loud here. I think the issue was it had lyrics. A lot of my background music is often lyric free.
Totally confused as to why during your pauses there was some totally different music playing in the background. I literally turned off the volume to make sure I did not have something else playing on my end during your reaction. For me it felt really strange. Your comments weren't detached from the covered content, However, the detached background music made me feel like you wanted me to experience you putting on a presentation rather than focus on the integrity of your words. Personally, I come to reactors to hear what comes out of their mouths. P.S., His stage name is pronounced jung cook. His real name is pronounced more like jung guk. Fans and fellow BTS members often like to call him JK or Kookie.
Yikes, that background music is horribly distracting and unnecessary. Dump it, please. Have confidence in what you’re saying. I may well end up subscribing but I need to be sure that you’re doing this because you’re genuinely interested and not just in it to feed the algorithm and ‘build a channel’. The song and choreo are something of an homage to Michael Jackson, while the video takes cues from Baz Luhrman’s Romeo and Juliet. JK in particular and BTS in general are MJ fans but out of the seven members I’d say he is by far the most attuned to ‘pop’. Certainly, he has a perfect voice for it. Just don’t expect BTS’s music to fall into that simple categorisation, their huge discography is broad and deep and their Hip Hop roots are never too far away. BTS music videos are works of art in their own right - they can be symbolically very complex and many of them are related to themes and storylines which run through multiple songs and albums. This video has the production values and something of that flavour but because it uses a new (to them) director it’s more straightforward to decode. The simplest way for a westerner to pronounce his name is Jungguk… all in one, with a J which is halfway between a hard J and a CH sound. Otherwise, calling him JK is absolutely fine.
People really didn't like the background music all of a sudden. I raised the volume a little, because people in the past it was too quiet, but I think I learned that too loud is worse. Thanks.
BTS does a lot of different genres. They even have a latin number called Airplane Part 2. Can I tell you something? This is not exactly a criticism... but the background music you have in your studio space is really distracting. You cut away from the video and boom! we're suddenly listening to something totally different. Is there a reason you are doing that?
It's a bunch of boring data/analytics, but long story short, the data shows that channels that have background music have much higher retention than those that don't. Just doing what I can to retain an audience. But you're not the first to mention the background music b getting too loud here. I admit I've been testing the volume settings. Based on comments, it'll be lower in the future.
Possible certainly, but I think more is going on here. I'd bet he's mimicking sounds to get the pronunciation closer. Based on other people's comments, that's pretty close to the reality of it.
He learnt english from 2017/18 but its known that kirean people are shy, and donot like to speak openly are a afraid to make mistakes. Not a problem to me or us, but its in their nature. When you are in Korea its hard to have a conversation in english. They are not used to. And ofcourse he learns how to speak correctly like all not native speakers do its hard for me too to speak english the right way if I dont speak it for some time. Its only after speaking frequently that the pronounciation is oke.
trust me bts is way more then pop they do so many more genere's its so incredible.
That's what people keep saying in the comments. I'm certainly intrigued.

JK knows the lyrics as the actual words, not just sounds. He's been taking English lessons on and off for several years. He is not fluent but has gotten better and better. Jungkook did mention he worked a lot on singing the lyrics without a Korean accent. He wanted to have an American accent.
Thank you for understanding what I was asking. Some people took this as a slight against JK, which wasn't the intention.
@@pigskinpoetry You're welcome.
His “iheart radio” performance is the best one for live … he focuses on singing in that one and it has a live band! So so good!
That sounds like a good candidate. Thanks.
Yes, but that's not "live, live" - it was recorded live. The Times Square is the best example of a truly live performance of this song with an audience, or his Tonight Show performance was also good.
@@OT7_DopeOldARMYIt's a toss up for me. The iheart radio's live band really rocks it. But, my favorite performance is the TSX Stage in Times Square
@@purpleskiesforever Yeah, I agree that iHeart is amazing...it's just not truly live.
Yeah, that Romeo and Juliet statement was an amazing coincidence once I learned that it was the actual inspiration for the video!
Including his bandmates and producers that worked with him
I also really liked his live performance of this on iheart radio. I recommend checking that out too. You can see his true strength as an artist singing and dancing live.
The director of the video is Tanu Muino. She even said the video is inspired by Romeo and Juliet (Leonardo version). She’s worked with other big artists too
You will be surprised that BTS has a lot of heavy metal fans.
That's one that I might have to check out then. I said it as a bit of humor more than anything, but that's cool they have a Latin song.
I too thought of Airplane Pt 2 in Japanese by BTS!

He has been learning proper English pronunciation since he was a little kid. He auditioned when he was 13. He was 15 when BTS debuted. He sings all the time.

Like their job is to just teach BTS English? Or they work for the public too?
@@pigskinpoetryThere's several artists under their label, Hybe. So, many of the Kpop artists take English lessons during training.
However, BTS and a solo artist were the only people that were under the label (formerly known as Big Hit. Big Hit still keeps a separate part of the company only to manage BTS). BTS literally built their label to the conglomerate that it is now.

Now that sounds worthy of a reaction!
LOL, OMG! so true. JK can't pass a good meal specially next to his hyung Suga. GOOD TIMES!
He sang before and after the lip ring and I never noticed any difference
I can't think of another artist that has one off the top of my head.
Thanks!
He is more than likely still learning to mostly sing in English phonetically, but he is learning more and more English all the time and is speaking more English than he used to. So my guess is it's probably a combination of both right now. There are several live performances of this that are now on RUclips that you can watch anythings in English equally well in those.

Wow. Thanks for taking all the trouble to compile all of this. That's an awesome gesture, and very much appreciated.
Any Jungkook live videos?
Watch the awesome live performance to hear him sing live🔥🔥💜
I'm planning it. Just have a lot of things on my plate right now.
Please react to his live performance at times square. And i agree with another comment, after jungkook you should react to agust d - daechwita music video, the cinematography is insane.
Thanks for the suggestion.
He should do the trilogy.
Agreed
Congrats to JK. Love the mv. He is a phenomenal singer/dancer. Kudos to his backup dancer they are amazing. Love your reaction.❤😊
Thanks so much. It was a fun one to do.
😘💜🫰🏻🫶🏻
He sounds better live. Try the iHeart radio live performance.
Thanks for the informative post. I appreciate it.
Also, all of the MV credits are in the description section for the MV - director, dancers, producers, director of photography, etc.
Thanks for that tip.
Thanks for the detail about the pronunciation. I really appreciate it.
The J is like a J, "ch" is another letter in hangul
The thing with his name it's that the ending is hard for foreigners to pronounce, but basically you would say it like this: Jung (like in *jung*le) + guk (like in *G*ame) with the last k pronounced softly.
Thanks.
Very observant! By now I guess people answered to you most of the questions. I just wanted to comment the lip rings situation. This man is singing live like a God... while grilling and chewing meat (if you continue your journey with him, you will discover this video, too). :D So no, they don't affect his singing abilities in any way.
I've seen the meat references several times. I'm sure that video is something to see.
Thanks for the info. People have really been helpful about this. I do appreciate it.
JK had few live concerts in New York if you did watched. Mr. Pigskin you should watch live shows. The one you are watching is an MV video and not a live show. Concerts and MV's are different.
You're the first to ever call me Mr. Pigskin. 😂
Please, Coach is fine.
I think you should watch the iheart live performance and the time square one
Thank you. I'll probably be getting to those.
JK is my everything 🌿
As it is with a lot of people, it seems.
TSX Times Square!!!
This one is getting a lot of votes.
Mariachi? Yes they can! Watch “Airplane Part 2” by BTS 💜💜 Make sure you use subtitles. Thank you for your reaction. Looking forward to more!!
Cool. Thanks for the info. A few others have mentioned that one.
JungKook has an intermediate level of English and keeps learning. His name is pronounced jang-goog (the K in the middle is like a double G and the K and the end is soft like a G)
Thank you so much.
Dude: You just earned a “bless your heart” for the “does he mouth the words” comment. I am sure you don’t mean harm but please be judicious with the comments. Continue to enjoy your BTS journey💜
I'm not sure you quite understand what I was asking. I was talking about him learning the mouth shapes and leaning the language phonetically.
@@pigskinpoetryyeah I thought that was pretty clear how you said it. I’m not sure why this person is taking issue with it.
Mariachi? Listen to his/BTS song Airplane Part 2
I might have to. Others have mentioned this one too.
Cool. No one has ever mentioned any of those. I'll keep them in mind. Thanks.
JONG-GUK. That is how to correctly pronounce his name. Emphasize in pronouncing the J as Jong, not Y (Yong), and G as goat in Guk, also, pronounce the K.
Jungkook (Jong Kook)- American-ish
Jeongguk - correct romanized version of how it is written in Korean writing
Thank you so much.
@@pigskinpoetry you're welcome 😊
Jungkook phenomenal singer and dancer ❤
Of the little I've seen, I'd tend to agree.
So u were very close the video and song and wings methafor is based on Romeo and Juliette the movie by Boaz Kerman!!!
So there I go a little deeper thoughts and u come to the right conclusion and that is referring to jungkook as a singer
Baz Luhrmann. Yes, I thought it all looked familiar. I didn't know it was a direct homage.
I think army gave you wrong idea that Jungkook doesn't speak english at all. He is not fluent but he does understand a lot and can speak in simple sentences. Plus he is great imitator and has great ear. There are compilation of it on youtube.
The imitation is what I'm referencing, you're just saying it a different way.
Some Jungkook facts and info to get to know him better:
Main singer in BTS of 7 members (3 rappers and 4 vocals)
With English, he is self taught as well as learning English from online courses beginning around 2018 or 2019. He now understands most basic English but still not confident to have long conversations in english. He is like a a third year language learning level where he understands most of it when the language is spoken slowly and his ability to reply. He is fluent in Korean and Japanese (most kpop idols learn Japanese outside of their native tongue because Japan is the second biggest market for kpop so they promote a lot there by guest appearances on shows, concerts, etc...)
Given the name Golden Maknae (means youngest in korean) by one of BTS member and leader of BTS.
Thanks for all the info on JK.
Thank you for the very informative post. I appreciate it.
check out the recording of him making seven song, (Jung Kook) 'Seven' Recording Film
I'll try to get to this. A few others mentioned it.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I'll pretend that not all those hearts are for Jung Kook and there are a couple there for me. 😀
@pigskinpoetry Yes sir! Some are for Jungkook and the rest of BTS, and some are for you 💜 😁
Right back at you! Thanks for watching!
JK and BTS have all adopted the more westernized pronunciation of his name because they realize it's easier for non-Koreans worldwide...so pronounce it like Jung-cook (exactly the way we say the English word 'cook')......
In *native* Korean pronunciation (which we will *never* do well, so that's why JK and BTS made it easier for us), you use a long oo vowel (like in BOO) instead of the short oo vowel (like in cook) & you barely hear the second G/K sound at the end of his name, so to our western ears it sounds like it's not there at all (Jung-koo)
The director definitely chose a video theme inspired by Baz Luhrman's Romeo+Juliet, she has confirmed this in an interview or an IG post, I forget which
Thanks. A few others have talked about the Romeo and Juliet connection. I think they did a great job.
If you really want to see him singing livewhat the iheart radio live, take care

Thanks for the suggestion.
That actually was very helpful. Thank you so much for taking the time.
Pls react Jungkook's I heart radio live performance
It's a possibility. I think more people want to see the Times Square performance.
As an English teacher, I'd actually be really interested in seeing that.
@@pigskinpoetry The video is called "[EPISODE] 'Left and Right' (Feat: Jungkook of BTS)' Recording Sketch" on the BANGTANTV channel, if you want to watch or react to it 😁
@@shannon7515 thank you!
I have two lip piercings and they don’t really cause any kind of problems with mouth shapes. My tongue piercing doesn’t keep me from belting out and producing sounds either. He doesn’t have that though.
BTW. I am 51 years old and I am seriously into BTS.
I can't imagine trying to sing with all that. But I'll take your word for it.
You can just call him JK 👍👍
I wish someone would have told me that a long time ago.
the Kook is pronounced like Goog but the last g is almost silent, in english if you pronounced Goog it would sound like Googah because of the hard G sound, In Korean the K in his name sounds more like a like a mix of G & K, like a soft G, it's hard to explain if you don't know hangul because the sounds are very different from English. I recommend just calling him JK :)
I might start doing that, but based on everyone's descriptions, I think I'm getting a better sense of it now.
A tip if I may, when you are speaking, the music your playing is quite loud and make it difficult to hear you, not to mention it's kind of confusing as to why you are playing different music while the vid is paused and you are speaking. Thanks for this! Have a great week :)
Lol. Someone told me on a recent video that my music was too quiet. Can't please them all, I suppose.
@pigskinpoetry ahhh. Sorry, maybe it's just me, just seems distracting. 👍🤷🏽♀️
Yes distracting me too
Based on the reaction this time, it'll be lower next time. Thanks for the feedback.
A few things before I get into Jung Kook's skills:
1) There is a MV Shooting Sketch that shows how they made the Music Video - it's on BangtanTV channel.
Thank you so much for the extensive comment.

Thank you. This is the most specific explanation I've gotten. Thank you.
Great user name, by the way.
Thanks.
I love your reactions
I am really curious what you would say about OT7 BTS songs and also the interaction between the members and BTS with their fans. Their music drew me in but their personalities and bond made me stay.
Also I know it is confusing of how to pronounce another language imagine how Jungkook felt when he was recording his songs for the album 😅 he mentioned that he had different producers for different songs and everyone wanted him to pronounce certain words differently 😂
Anyway I have seen other people trying to help you pronounce it and I am giving my two cents ( disclaimer I am not Korean😂)
The confusion is real some say pronounce the k at the end some say it is quiet.
Also you can just call him JK 😂
I can’t recommend a life performance of standing next to you because I love every single one for different reasons. I just can’t choose.
💜
I forgot to add: this man can sing with his lip piercings AND a mouth full of meat so God knows what needs to happen for him not to sing properly 😂
Why do people keep referring to a mouthful of meat? It's that a thing?
Thanks for helping with the pronunciation.
@@pigskinpoetry 😂😂😂😂 it totally is a thing! We mean it literally! He ate and sang karaoke at the same time and he killed it. But it was also a little concerning because it didn’t seem to be the first time he did that and it kind of seems dangerous. He could choke you know.
Just a critique. Please turn that background music down while you're talking. Very distracting.
You're the first person to mention Kookie. That's funny.
Thank you@@pigskinpoetry And thank you for replying.💜
@@cynthiaperez2232 thank you for the honest feedback.
His name is very confusing yes for us westerners but there is no k sound
I've had about 50 people all tell me different variations of the pronunciation. I think, basically, no one knows for sure.
It sounds more like chongook
I think I'm getting closer now.
When you sing, the accent becomes less.
That's a good point. I've known people with accents and even a stutter, they can sing without an issue.
How about he just learned english ?!!
That's understandable. Thanks for watching and taking the time to explain.
