Worked great for me! I used Dawn dishwashing liquid, soaked well and covered with garbage bags that I slit to be one ply. Left on for 2 hours and removal was a snap. Came off easily in one piece and no residue (and it was a big window- I didn't even need to score it). Thanks so much for posting this:)

We did this on our front entry window (the skinny one beside our door). We used blue Dawn liquid dish detergent with water lathering it generously and applied cut garbage bags that we pre-cut to size. We left it on for 2 hours and it was SO easy to remove! It was so satisfying to peel it off. Would HIGHLY recommend this! Thank you so much for sharing.

Absolutely excellent ! So glad I came across this video. If anyone had told me water could travel through plastic film in order to loosen the adhesive I'd have laughed at them, but it worked a treat. I used a bin liner and left it on for 3 hours, the film came straight off and left no trace on the window. Thank you very much. Relieved I didn't buy a hair drier..........

We just moved into a house that had this shit all over the back door, and we were staring and going 'how the hell are we going to do this.' We tried peeling it ourselves (which did nothing), and then my mom stumbled onto this video and it worked like a charm! Came off in big sheets and very easily! Thank you!

Thank you!!! This video save me so much work! My signage installers didn't even know this trick so now they have another tool in their arsenal. They started to use a heat gun but I was too afraid the glass would shatter. I had eight door-sized glass sections with frosting that had to be removed. I thought it would just peel right off. I sure was wrong. After letting the sections marinate for a couple of hours I was able to get the job done. It still wasn't easy but oh so much easier than peeling tiny little pieces at a time. Some things I learned. Make sure every inch is wet. Even just a tiny dry spot will be a problem when it's time to peel. It dries super fast so just keep applying the soapy water as you put the plastic up. You definitely need to score into sections and remove one at a time. I did like 6" strips. I found it easier to start from the top and peel a strip down about half way and then pull up from the bottom. Place your entire hand sideways against the strip you're peeling so the pressure is distributed across the section. You'll experience less breakage this way. If you do get a section that separates from the strip take a moment to use a razor blade to get it started again. It'll be far easier then going back and peeling multiple pieces that broke off.

FANTASTIC, GREAT & TIME SAVING METHOD 👍👍👍👍!!
    Please take a bow 👏👏👏👏!!
I have floor to ceiling windows, and EXACTLY as you said & showed, the frosted privacy film came off with NO EFFORT 😁😁😁
Thanks for saving me the 6 hours it probably would've taken with a razor blade

    I liked this video.
However, I kid you not. I'd intended on trying this simple method bc I had dawn dish detergent and bubble wrap in the crib.
Then, I noticed something on the first window that I was going to treat.
Next, to wipe whatever it was that I saw on the window, I used one square of a Clorox disinfecting wipe.
Before I knew it, the Clorox disinfecting wipe began to break down the window frosting.
With a little more elbow grease and pressure, the window frosting was pretty easy to remove.
So far, I've removed window frosting from five windows in my apartment.
Remember, you have to keep the window wet with the solution that is in the Clorox disinfecting wipes.

Just tried this and it worked great in conjunction with a flat razor. I was working on decade(s?)-old textured film some of which I tried to muscle off. To my dismay, removing them dry left most of the adhesive, which mostly just smeared when I tried to scrape it off.

I tried this and it worked well to take off the frosting however the adhesive was left on the window. If this happens to you then put more dish soap/water onto the adhesive and put the plastic back up for a few hours, then use a window scraper and it comes right off. Thank you!

I am SO glad I found this video! I purchased a huge mirror at a sale that has frosted letters on it, thinking I could remove it easily. However, I then started watching videos that said it couldn't be removed because frosted is the same as etched, and that the glass is actually 'cut'. You have made my day! I'm sure I can take it off now!

I was so impressed with the efficacy of Cookie's film removal technique. In search of a rare kind of pleasure I adorned all my windows with a coat of frosting - seeking the satisfaction derived from its removal.
Alas I have been living in a twilight daze for the past 10 years. Lacking the opposable thumb strength needed to relieve the window of its coating, I have been starved of the sun's yolk. I have grown very weary in this dwindling light... we live as we dream -- alone.

Should have utubed this before I started my removal. A bloke who installs window films told me to use a heat gun, but that didn't work very well, as it leaves the adhesive behind in some areas. Absolute pain the ass to remove now. But I'll have to saturate it with soapy water for 2hrs to scrape that off now.

  • @TravisInCanada1

The chance of glass cracking doesn't start until it gets to 150c or 350F
cutting the vinyl into smaller more manageable strips and heating it up to 80c-100c works just fine
In the hour you left it to soak in water it would have finished.

    • @tedjames9176

Travis In Canada Exactly. Cut 6-8” wide strips and use a propane hand torch and keep it moving not stopping the flame in one spot. I would have had that piece removed in 10-15min.
