Karthik (Madhavan) proposes to Shakthi (Shalini) conceivably for shallow reasons because he doesn’t even know her as a person at that point. Where’s the depth in that? I’ve always felt that Kandukonden Kandukonden has the best proposal scene of all Tamil movies period. Criminally underrated. Meenakshi’s (Aishwarya Rai) redemption arc, when she discloses to her potential groom that she’s currently in love with someone, when Major (Mamootty) slowly realizes it’s him she’s referring to, Meenu’s gorgeous expressive eyes while she proposes her love, Major’s overwhelming reaction to her proposal. One of the finest, most wholesome scenes ever. A woman in love proposing to a man is so beautiful because women are inherently more articulate, passionate and can be hopelessly in love. Especially within the context of Aishwarya Rai and Mammootty characters. It brings me deepest sense of emotional comfort and delight every time I watch this scene. IMO Aishwarya Rai looks her best in this movie. She looks like a pristine angel with minimal makeup. Rajiv Menon doesn’t get enough credits not just for this scene but for this entire movie.
