/Hi, can you explain how you found the pin-out for the connector, and more on the sensitivity switches. How they work and why you needed to order them ? Were they just not included with the unit that you purchased, or were the ones that came with the unit too or not enough sensitive? How did you hook them up? How can you adjust the sensitivity on a unit that came out of a doner car ?
I admire your tenacity and ingenuity! I was thinking of doing a similar swap, but after seeing what was needed to get the column prepared, it's a little out of my league. Think I'll buy a kit. Thanks for the great video regardless! Cheers mate!
Mine reaches close to the pedals so I might need to shorten the top end like you did. But mine has a tilted connection in between. Do you think this is still doable?
Great video, especilly disassembling!! I'm from Germany and I have the same type of EPS in my 22 years old Opel car. Works great, but no more in winter when it's cold outside: Then the EPS often turns off itself. OBD-Code says: "torque sensor range not plausible". The small wheel of the sensor runs in the groove of the axis. May be this is a Problem of too old lubricant on the axis (a special white teflon-like lubricant) ?? The EPS is from 1999 and has more than 150.000 miles... Is it possible to put some new lubricant onto the axis touch the mounting hole of the sensor? What do you think?? ❔❔🤔 I have two complete EPS steerings in reserve, but it is not so easy to change the complete unit in my model. It would be a lot of work. 😭😭 Best Regards Thomas
Great video. Very useful as I'll be doing this to my v8 swapped Porsche 924, the original column is a VW part from the same period just a different length.
Hello i have done the same Conversation to my car and i bought the same sensitivity switch, but when i turn the steering left, its way easier than when i turn it right, what should i do, any infos? Thanks!
Thanks for good vid and great steering conversion. I am doing the same thing on my bug but I am still loooking for column. Can u please advise on sensitivity switch. How do u hook it up and how does it work. Can u please do a small video on that and also show how you connect all wires for electric steering to work. Cheers
It is very nice. I want to apply it to my suzuki samurai vehicle, I would appreciate it if you inform me how to do the electrical scheme or connection.

I enjoyed the video, I only wish the audio was as good as the video. Mostly I couldn't understand what you were saying. Maybe a bluetooth mic would improve the sound quality. Cheers.
Haha, thanks?! Glad you enjoyed the video, audio is trickier than video to sort as we get lots of background noise from the dust extraction, generally bad acoustics in the workshop, plus Mat's broad Northern accent doesn't help! The channel is very much a work in progress at the moment and we're still figuring stuff out as we go but audio is at the top of the list to sort out when we can afford to.
@@RotboxMetalworks thanks for your reply . i have a nissan electric power steering that i would like to fit on a vw polo 6 n , but i am worried about the high speed protection . if you have an idea ?
As always great video. I’m guessing the sensitivity switch will be flicked on and off manually ? Also the hight I’d the steering wheel is just what ever your convertible at ? Rather than using measurements from another caddy. Really enjoyed the video . Savage conversion
Steven Harper cheers. The sensitivity side of it is done by a knob so you can set it to the heaviness you prefer. You can get a control box that changes the heaviness automatically depending how fast you’re going but I’ve used this type before so thought I’d get the same again. The steering wheel position is set to where it originally was
Great stuff, reminds me of hybridding column for my morris minor with an mgf, full working airbag in that and everything. Would mg epas control box work with yours?
Thanks for the comment! Haha, I have no idea tbh 😅 I know there's lots of different ways people do this, we had this similar setup on another vehicle and no issues so decided to give it a go!
Not doable in mercedes benz ...w126 1982 MODELS...,2NDLY ANY ONE KNOW THE AIR CONDITION COMPRESSOR AC MOTOR CONVERSTION WHICH INCREASES THE ENGINE POWER AND SOUND TOO
If you have no power steering at all than this is an improvement at lower speeds say below 50kph. But electric power steering on higher speeds can be really sh't. I have it in my latest car. Newest car I have ever owned and the most expensive but the steering is the worst I have ever had in any car. Even a 1990's Mitsubishi Colt had better steering. Driving in a straight line at 60+kph is just so disappointing with electric power steering.
But it's not a GM part! It's just a part made for a GM vehicle. Most parts aren't made by the VM's they are made For them by aftermarket companies such as Valeo, lucas, zf etc etc VM's build the vehicles and design the vehicles.
hands down best intro on the RUclipss, hilarious
you guys are a riot, love the videos, always something new and different, not the same old caddy mods everybody else is doing
Thanks so much! Haha, we try and keep it fresh, happy to know someone likes it! 😅👍

Thanks for the info guy, i will be attempting the same on my golf 1 with corsa c column
sensitivity adjuster switch? Thats cool and I'm doin it cause of that.
Hi there. Can you send a link to the sensitivity switch you used?
Did you check to see if the dashboard will still fit over the column motor?
Very good work
Hi. Can you do VW T3 electric power steering conversion please?
Pure genius. Also like the way you use hacksaw blades in your reciprocating air saw. Need to do that myself!
Cheers! Those blades are way cheaper, the proper ones turn easier when you're going round bends though.
How to you control the level of assistance for different speeds?
