    George Martin is a genius. I cannot imagine how someone can build an entire family tree and make all the bricks in the entire story fit. And planting the seed in Game of thrones already for that series. Kudos

    It’s kinda sad Aemon died thinking he was the last Targ in Westeros, when Jon was studying under him, taking in all his wisdom.

      @kgkg4118 Month ago +6

      It doesn't make sense to me how Aemon is still alive when Jon Snow is a grown man. What is he like 180 yrs old? He is the *older* brother of Jon's great-great grandfather. Is this a plot hole or am I missing something?

    • @arixcipher897
      @arixcipher897 Month ago +41

      @kgkg4118 it does make sense if you picture the age and timeline properly. egg and aemon are only 2 years apart. by the time egg (Aegon V) is king at around 33 years , he had an 8 years old son Jaehaerys II, and Aemon (around 35 years) is studying to be a maester. And fast forward, by the time Egg is 59, he died, and Aemon 61 is at the wall. So Egg's son Jaehaerys II became king at 34 when egg died (he ruled only for 3 years and died at 37), and he had a son at 19 (Aerys II aka Mad king, age 15 when his father became king). So basically the time between Egg becoming king(@33) and Aerys II (Eggs grandson, the Mad king) being born is only 11 years. Then Aerys II became king at 18, Had three children, to one of which (Rhaegar) is Born Jon snow. Thus by the time Aerys II is king, Aemon is around 64 years old. Fast forward 20 years, Aemon now 84, and Robert's Rebellion started and Jon Snow was born in secret. By the time Jon was sent to the wall (around 14-16 years old) Aemon is 100 Years old.

      1.) House of dragons
      2.) Knight of the seven kingdoms
      3.) Game of thrones
      My current ranking

    • @jeremiahwelborn5526
      @jeremiahwelborn5526 Month ago +3

      @djtwister6997we can agee to disagree, HotD gives weird vibes like "look at how strong these women are" when they caused the civil war. They took christian cole from a Cunning villain to a weak simp. Only redeeming factor is daemon, dragons, and knowing christian coles head will end up on a pike. I just hope daemon gets the end most of us believe to be true which is him disappearing with nettles after ending Aemond since his body was mever found after their battle

    • @djtwister6997
      @djtwister6997 Month ago +4

      @jeremiahwelborn5526this is a very fair argument and I agree with the strong women narrative in House of Dragon being too much to the point it can over shadow the show. However I think the writing and pacing and character moments are still great. Now if I was ranking game of thrones season 1-4 alone or even 1-6 then that would easily be my first pick.

    I wonder why Aemon (3rd born) was sent to the citadel instead of Egg (4th born). In our own history it's normally the last born son sent to the clergy unless an older son needs "to go".

    • @superjaded4202
      @superjaded4202 Month ago +12

      He chose to go to the wall fearing that he may be used in plots against his brother Egg. Egg sent guards with him to the wall to take the vow of the night's watch, one of which was Brynden Rivers (the 3 eyed raven) Duncan the Tall escorted them there.

    • @superjaded4202

      He was the book smart Targaryen so that is a big reason he was sent to old town to become a maester.

    • @robboaron
      @robboaron Month ago +9

      Maesters aren't clergy, that would be septons. Aemon is bookish, it fits his character to study. Egg would not be happy at the citadel.

    • @luckybear101
      @luckybear101 Month ago +4

      It’s kind of implied that going to the citadel was what Aemon wanted when he tells Sam his father objected when he “chose a life of service”. The king (Aemon’a grandfather) used his pull to force Maekar to agree to let Aemon go..

    I would t say Aegon spent his *whole* life trying to bring back dragons. He spent much of his rule trying to make life better for the common folk and the great lords naturally opposed this. As he got older he came to believe that if only he’d *had* dragons then the lords wouldn’t have been able to oppose him.

      he was loved by common folks, but not by everyone that knew him (noble). maybe because his reforms was too extreme, too fast, and too liberal for nobles liking. when he died, all his reforms was undone by his own squire. or maybe because in his final years, he too obsessed with bring back the dragons and became quite mad like all targaryen before and after him. he tried to hatch it with wildfire at summerhall..

      There is a difference between the show (game of thrones ) , and the book , in the show they made the mad king the son of egg as maester aemon saids , but in the books he is actually his grandson , so thats why it looks unreasonable 😊

    • @moonqueenofthenorth
      @moonqueenofthenorth 25 days ago

      Book Aemon has explained this in one simple phrase “ice preserves, fire consumes.” Before his death, he too questions why he lived to such old age. But the magic of the Wall and The North in a way protected him. Had he accepted kingship, Kingslanding and the Iron Throne would have consumed him long ago.

    The fortune teller was right about Dunk. In GoT, Joffrey points out to Jaime Lannister that he only has one paragraph whilst Ser Duncan has four whole pages dedicated to him in the White Book of the Kingsguard. Dunk cared more about honor than coin, so in this sense he's richer than a Lannister.

    "Trying to hatch dragon eggs" killed him? How? What's so dangerous about that? Does this story get more specific in any book? I need details.

    • @kateris1976
      @kateris1976 Month ago

      There are details in "A world of ice and fire" and some mentions in the main series books. Supposedly he tried to use wild fire to hatch the eggs, the flames grew out of control and destroyed the whole castle of Summerhall and almost everyone in there died, including Aegon and most of the royal family.

    • @FrostSails
      @FrostSails Month ago

      its only speculation that he attempted to hatch dragon eggs from third party sources. the only survivors of summerhall that mattered was Jaehaerys, his sister-wife, Aerys (the mad king) Rhaella, who gave birth to Rhaegar near the flames of summerhall.

      @The_GreenseerNo, the show had to age up a few characters so there wouldn't be underage sex. That's why Jaehaerys II got deleted.

    • @D_faul
      @D_faul Month ago

      they changed it up for the show to simplify it. In the books Jaeharys II was the mad King‘s father, but for the show, they skipped him and just went ahead and made it Egg. Not a big deal , nobody in the show is gonna know any different which is what this is.
