George Martin is a genius. I cannot imagine how someone can build an entire family tree and make all the bricks in the entire story fit. And planting the seed in Game of thrones already for that series. Kudos
@The_Greenseergues it never will. Instead will go for the side series such as rebellions. It could be awesome to have blackfyre rebellion tho. Pretty curious for Daemon as well.
It doesn't make sense to me how Aemon is still alive when Jon Snow is a grown man. What is he like 180 yrs old? He is the *older* brother of Jon's great-great grandfather. Is this a plot hole or am I missing something?
@kgkg4118 it does make sense if you picture the age and timeline properly. egg and aemon are only 2 years apart. by the time egg (Aegon V) is king at around 33 years , he had an 8 years old son Jaehaerys II, and Aemon (around 35 years) is studying to be a maester. And fast forward, by the time Egg is 59, he died, and Aemon 61 is at the wall. So Egg's son Jaehaerys II became king at 34 when egg died (he ruled only for 3 years and died at 37), and he had a son at 19 (Aerys II aka Mad king, age 15 when his father became king). So basically the time between Egg becoming king(@33) and Aerys II (Eggs grandson, the Mad king) being born is only 11 years. Then Aerys II became king at 18, Had three children, to one of which (Rhaegar) is Born Jon snow. Thus by the time Aerys II is king, Aemon is around 64 years old. Fast forward 20 years, Aemon now 84, and Robert's Rebellion started and Jon Snow was born in secret. By the time Jon was sent to the wall (around 14-16 years old) Aemon is 100 Years old.
Actually Aemon was in contact with Bloodraven, who informed Aemon of Jon's true parentage. Aemon knew who Jon was and that he was the Prince who was Promised
I have to admit... I cried a little bit Aemon, the blind dragon died... he was one of the very few good targaryens from the family tree filled with bad limbs and branches... and, he bore fruit... by giving wisdom to everyone.
@TheMickeyBloo yeah the last time they see each other is at the wall, but only as they are dropping him off. Egg and dunk escorted him to the wall. Egg never came to visit during after he took the black
@djtwister6997we can agee to disagree, HotD gives weird vibes like "look at how strong these women are" when they caused the civil war. They took christian cole from a Cunning villain to a weak simp. Only redeeming factor is daemon, dragons, and knowing christian coles head will end up on a pike. I just hope daemon gets the end most of us believe to be true which is him disappearing with nettles after ending Aemond since his body was mever found after their battle
@jeremiahwelborn5526this is a very fair argument and I agree with the strong women narrative in House of Dragon being too much to the point it can over shadow the show. However I think the writing and pacing and character moments are still great. Now if I was ranking game of thrones season 1-4 alone or even 1-6 then that would easily be my first pick.
@djtwister6997if yiu ask me GoT shouldve been multiple shows all driving into maybe 3-4 seasons combined after all the shows "conclusions". I do love GoT but it couldve been so much more. Also..off topic. But id love to see a show set in Valyria maybe starting like 2 years before the doom, going through the cataclysm and showing the families of valyrias struggle coming to westeros
Reaghar by all accounts in the books was also a good guy moving among the people getting to know them, singing to them and such. Also probably meant to become a good king was it not for Roberts rebellion.
When Maester Aemon talks to John Snow, he tells him that his brother followed his father as king and then Egg’s son, the Mad King became king but the Mad King was Egg’s grandson, right? Egg’s son, Jaehaerys becomes king after Egg and then comes the Mad King.
I wonder why Aemon (3rd born) was sent to the citadel instead of Egg (4th born). In our own history it's normally the last born son sent to the clergy unless an older son needs "to go".
He chose to go to the wall fearing that he may be used in plots against his brother Egg. Egg sent guards with him to the wall to take the vow of the night's watch, one of which was Brynden Rivers (the 3 eyed raven) Duncan the Tall escorted them there.
It’s kind of implied that going to the citadel was what Aemon wanted when he tells Sam his father objected when he “chose a life of service”. The king (Aemon’a grandfather) used his pull to force Maekar to agree to let Aemon go..
I would t say Aegon spent his *whole* life trying to bring back dragons. He spent much of his rule trying to make life better for the common folk and the great lords naturally opposed this. As he got older he came to believe that if only he’d *had* dragons then the lords wouldn’t have been able to oppose him.
I guess, eventually, with this many well done Targaryen spinoffs and seasons the final season of GOT will seem better because we'll fill in all the context Dany needed with what we know of the historical Targaryens. People will just watch already knowing she really could go either way from the beginning and it won't seem out of nowhere.
Thanks for this. I was very confused watching the first two episodes of the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I had figured out Egg was Aegon, but I didn't couldn't figure out who Makaer and Balor and the brothers were. I did realize Aemon the maester was Egg's brother, but those other ones, I just didn't get. This was a nice clear explanation.
he was loved by common folks, but not by everyone that knew him (noble). maybe because his reforms was too extreme, too fast, and too liberal for nobles liking. when he died, all his reforms was undone by his own squire. or maybe because in his final years, he too obsessed with bring back the dragons and became quite mad like all targaryen before and after him. he tried to hatch it with wildfire at summerhall..
Could you do both lol🤷🏻♂️🙏🏻? I did a deep dive into Bloodraven but really didn’t uncover enough. Been on A GoT kick for a few months, binged GoT, HotD, Kot7K, read Fire and Blood and the D&E novellas. Wish there was more to ingest!
Valarr and matarys both died of plague , so it's Maekar's right then his sons Daerons died from sickness and Aeron became mad and drank wildfire to become a dragon and burned to death
8:25 You jumped a generation: Aerys and Rhaella were the children of Jaehaerys II Targaryen who was the second son of Aegon V and hiw wife Betha Blackwood. The heir Prince Duncan died in Summerhall with his parents es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anexo:%C3%81rbol_geneal%C3%B3gico_de_la_casa_Targaryen
When the woman told Dunc and Eggs fortunes, why did she tell Egg "all who know you will rejoice in your dying?" if he became 'one of the most beloved kings in Westerosi history' as the narrator told us?
He let his children marry for love. In stead of creating marriages that allow him to build the relationships that would cement his hold on the 7 kingdoms. It created enemies of the powerful families he needed on his side.
The nobility and people that benefited from keeping the little people oppressed, hated egg Therefore plotted against him and most certainly rejoice at his death
@Swede1365the people didn’t rejoice at his death, they rejoiced at the birth of Rhaegar, who was born on the same night Egg died, the prophecy that was said wasn’t straightforward.

The fortune teller was right about Dunk. In GoT, Joffrey points out to Jaime Lannister that he only has one paragraph whilst Ser Duncan has four whole pages dedicated to him in the White Book of the Kingsguard. Dunk cared more about honor than coin, so in this sense he's richer than a Lannister.
There are details in "A world of ice and fire" and some mentions in the main series books. Supposedly he tried to use wild fire to hatch the eggs, the flames grew out of control and destroyed the whole castle of Summerhall and almost everyone in there died, including Aegon and most of the royal family.
its only speculation that he attempted to hatch dragon eggs from third party sources. the only survivors of summerhall that mattered was Jaehaerys, his sister-wife, Aerys (the mad king) Rhaella, who gave birth to Rhaegar near the flames of summerhall.

DUNK or BLOODRAVEN?
👇 Vote below 👇
Bloodraven because he outlived them all 😂
Dunk.👍🍻
Raven
Bloodraven
Bloodraven
George Martin is a genius. I cannot imagine how someone can build an entire family tree and make all the bricks in the entire story fit. And planting the seed in Game of thrones already for that series. Kudos
Its also hard to end it 😅
@The_Greenseergues it never will. Instead will go for the side series such as rebellions. It could be awesome to have blackfyre rebellion tho. Pretty curious for Daemon as well.
@The_GreenseerI've given up on the main series ever being completed. But the lore is so rich it almost doesn't matter.
He’s had a lot of practice!
@The_Greenseer He attained so much success that he just gave up writing the story to an end, it got to his head.
It’s kinda sad Aemon died thinking he was the last Targ in Westeros, when Jon was studying under him, taking in all his wisdom.
It doesn't make sense to me how Aemon is still alive when Jon Snow is a grown man. What is he like 180 yrs old? He is the *older* brother of Jon's great-great grandfather. Is this a plot hole or am I missing something?

@arixcipher897very helpful, thanks!
Actually Aemon was in contact with Bloodraven, who informed Aemon of Jon's true parentage. Aemon knew who Jon was and that he was the Prince who was Promised
Did he not know about Daenerys?
Can they introduce young aemon so it doesn’t look like maekar had 2 young adults, one really really old 3rd kid and a young boy in these thumbnails😂😂
Keep on reading. He’s actually revealed to have been a reverse Hasbulla the entire time. Sorry for the spoiler
I have to admit... I cried a little bit Aemon, the blind dragon died... he was one of the very few good targaryens from the family tree filled with bad limbs and branches... and, he bore fruit... by giving wisdom to everyone.
You cried real tears? 😂
@seyerusYeah! He reminded me of my great uncle that died of cancer.
@Blaklyon0Then you’re an emotionally stunted cretin.
@Blaklyon0RIP i send my condolences 💐
There were many good targs tho, there are more of a grey and hood mix rather than a decaying tree as pointed above.
Aemon DID see Egg one more time when Dunk and Egg travelled to The Citadel on their adventures. Aemon gave Egg a mule called Maester.
That was before Aemon went to the wall. The narrator said he never seen Egg again once he went to the wall. 🤔
@TheMickeyBloo My bad!
@TheMickeyBloo yeah the last time they see each other is at the wall, but only as they are dropping him off. Egg and dunk escorted him to the wall. Egg never came to visit during after he took the black
@mrvoldis6688it's still a possibility that dunk and egg visit the wall. The next story is supposed to send them to winterfell and the north.
The prince did not demand trial by combat, Dunk did. The prince only agreed to it by making it a trial of seven instead of single combat.
Well it wasn't dunks idea
@DaDbRainRot that isnt the point. The video clearly says the prince demanded trial by combat, which he did not.
@twoinflaPrince Baelor suggested it to him looking out for him in that regard, but that weenie Aerion was also shrewd.
Well, he demanded dunks foot be removed. So he instigated the trial
@123FUG33 Yeah he knew Dunk would kick his ass.
I love how a knight of seven kingdoms is so much more compelling than HotD whike sticking with such a simple concept
1.) House of dragons
2.) Knight of the seven kingdoms
3.) Game of thrones
My current ranking
@djtwister6997we can agee to disagree, HotD gives weird vibes like "look at how strong these women are" when they caused the civil war. They took christian cole from a Cunning villain to a weak simp. Also..off topic. But id love to see a show set in Valyria maybe starting like 2 years before the doom, going through the cataclysm and showing the families of valyrias struggle coming to westeros
It's not tragic that three are dead by the time Game of Thrones starts, it's incredible one isn't.
Right?! 90 years is a long time to be alive and if you are already over 10 years old before that is amazing if you're alive.
Reaghar by all accounts in the books was also a good guy moving among the people getting to know them, singing to them and such. Also probably meant to become a good king was it not for Roberts rebellion.

Yes it was a mistake , The Mad King is the Grandson of Egg
Easy enough to explain away.
A very old man misremembered and got something wrong.
@muscles-metzgerThe best way to fix the mistake.
Yes you’re right. The mad king was the son of Jahaerys II who was Egg’s son
Yeah they changed that in the show for whatever reason
Dunk and brienne
I hate how Dan & Dave changed the line of succession with The Mad King being Aegon's son, and not his grandson.
Did they change it or mistake they didn’t catch
@Nonherothey changed it for whatever reason.
@Nonhero I believe it was a mistake.
Is it cited anywhere else but on that line?
I had no idea they did this!!! No wonder i get lost trying to make sense of the family tree. I gave up.
They changed so much, also hate they pulled young griff / aegon storyline and just merged it with Jon
I pray to the Seven Gods that we will learn more about their sisters in the adaptation.
He was the book smart Targaryen so that is a big reason he was sent to old town to become a maester.
Maesters aren't clergy, that would be septons. Aemon is bookish, it fits his character to study. Egg would not be happy at the citadel.
It’s kind of implied that going to the citadel was what Aemon wanted when he tells Sam his father objected when he “chose a life of service”. The king (Aemon’a grandfather) used his pull to force Maekar to agree to let Aemon go..
Probably simply because Egg was too young
I would t say Aegon spent his *whole* life trying to bring back dragons. He spent much of his rule trying to make life better for the common folk and the great lords naturally opposed this. As he got older he came to believe that if only he’d *had* dragons then the lords wouldn’t have been able to oppose him.
To be fair...if Iwas born into a Dragon riding family...I'd be pretty obsessed too...
Thank you finally Someone using brain
Pretty sure I'd be a little cocky. Hell I was cocky as a young sprout and we didn't ever have dragons 😂
Dunk is the one who asked for a trial by combat...
well he wanted 1v1...but Aerion was scared of his height advantage and decided to hide behind his daddy skirt and asked for 7v7
Apart from Daeron, another character who quoted with some certainty, “my dreams come true” was, Daenerys
Bloodraven, always interesting. Can't wait to see him in season 3 or whenever
Love the explanation, thank you 🙏🏾
Really enjoyed this breakdown
Great summary! So interesting
Thank you. Very helpful
Amazing video❤ clear explanation
Incredible video, thank you. Dunk!
Dunk & Brienne
Thanks for this. I was very confused watching the first two episodes of the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. I had figured out Egg was Aegon, but I didn't couldn't figure out who Makaer and Balor and the brothers were. I did realize Aemon the maester was Egg's brother, but those other ones, I just didn't get. This was a nice clear explanation.
blood raven next! really enjoyed your narration
Do both stories
"Eating hard bread" 😂😂😂 that bread did look hard as hell 😂
😂😂😂
sawdust bread, anyone?
I was crying on the latest episode... This series is all about heart
Yes!!! Same!
But how come the fortune teller said people would rejoice in his death if he was so loved?
he was loved by common folks, but not by everyone that knew him (noble). maybe because his reforms was too extreme, too fast, and too liberal for nobles liking. when he died, all his reforms was undone by his own squire. or maybe because in his final years, he too obsessed with bring back the dragons and became quite mad like all targaryen before and after him. he tried to hatch it with wildfire at summerhall..
Probably talking about how he was honored at his funeral
I genuinely want to know want happened to maekar daughters ❤❤❤
Would love to hear more about Dunks linage.
Blood raven
Beneath the Gold, there Bitter steel!!!!
Aemon is The Mad Kings brother man . After the fire at Summerhall he abdicates the throne and takes the black .
“Too many dragons is s dangerous as too few.”
We are getting the dunk show, so ill choose blood raven, but yeah BOTH LOL
12:58 you’re Goddam right 😂
Do both videos
Not sure why I don't know, but I'd love to know what happened to Valarr, Daeron, and Aerion, for the crown to fall to Egg.
Valarr and matarys both died of plague , so it's Maekar's right then his sons Daerons died from sickness and Aeron became mad and drank wildfire to become a dragon and burned to death
I thought the blind maester was the drunk brother
🔥🔥🔥wow
Dunk to Brienne of Tarth.... let us have It
This specific video is criminally under-viewed and therefore under-appreciated.
I’d like to see the lineage from Rhayneara to Damaris. Also there were 6 children, what of their sisters?
If Egg was such a good king, why would everyone that knew him rejoice at his death?
It was the rich who hated him,not the poor😢
@jennieross5985 ah gotcha
Also, they might have been rejoicing because the day Egg dies is the same day his Great-Grandson Rhaegar is born.
Maybe because his family as a whole may have been hated ...
@Mzinga-Mbili I mean yeah, thats kinda where i first went, but that feels like a really weak explanation of that prophecy.
8:25 You jumped a generation: Aerys and Rhaella were the children of Jaehaerys II Targaryen who was the second son of Aegon V and hiw wife Betha Blackwood. The heir Prince Duncan died in Summerhall with his parents
es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anexo:%C3%81rbol_geneal%C3%B3gico_de_la_casa_Targaryen
WTF kind of pronunciation of Queen Rhaenyra 10:44 is that??? Ruh-near-uh
That's the spelling robot for you, bro
Let’s hear more about Dunk
Daeron for all his faults isn’t a bad guy by any means
When the woman told Dunc and Eggs fortunes, why did she tell Egg "all who know you will rejoice in your dying?" if he became 'one of the most beloved kings in Westerosi history' as the narrator told us?
Maybe he just gets honored at his funeral
I wonder if George R.R. Martin based Aerion Targaryen on Prince Andrew.
😂 legendary comment
That makes Aemon Prince Harry wanted nothing to do with royal duties and dramas😂
Q: If Egg is a king who cared for the little people, what did he do so bad that the people would rejoice upon his death? I vote for Dunk.
He let his children marry for love. In stead of creating marriages that allow him to build the relationships that would cement his hold on the 7 kingdoms. It created enemies of the powerful families he needed on his side.
The nobles hated him
The nobility and people that benefited from keeping the little people oppressed, hated egg
Therefore plotted against him and most certainly rejoice at his death
As you can tell, I haven't read the books. I like to see it then go back and read all the details left out.
@Swede1365the people didn’t rejoice at his death, they rejoiced at the birth of Rhaegar, who was born on the same night Egg died, the prophecy that was said wasn’t straightforward.
That’s a crazy family
Indeed 😅
So sad for the Targaryens.
Que merda!!!!! Depois de 1000 anos finalmente entendi quem são os 4 irmãos, 1000 likes são poucos pela boa explicação...Assisti todo GoT, A casa dos dragões, e nunca entendi essa familia targaryon.
Dunk.
Blood Raven, please 👍
Both, but blood raven
wait, aerys II was not Egg's son? He was his grandson. You're forgetting Jehaerys
Both please
Dunk!
I heard three different time spans between Knight of Seven Kingdoms now. 90 years after would make Amon over a hundred years old. Geriatric care in Westeros is amazing !!
There is a difference between the show (game of thrones ) , and the book , in the show they made the mad king the son of egg as maester aemon saids , but in the books he is actually his grandson , so thats why it looks unreasonable 😊
Book Aemon has explained this in one simple phrase “ice preserves, fire consumes.” Before his death, he too questions why he lived to such old age. But the magic of the Wall and The North in a way protected him. Had he accepted kingship, Kingslanding and the Iron Throne would have consumed him long ago.
when did they sleep in "tents"? Dunk didn't have one.
What happens to the son of Baelor Targaryen's son Valarr Targaryen?
He dies along with his younger brother from sickness that comes shortly after in the spring 😢 just tragic that Baelor’s line is gone
Blood Raven, please!
The eldest deserved to be remembered
The fortune teller was right about Dunk. In GoT, Joffrey points out to Jaime Lannister that he only has one paragraph whilst Ser Duncan has four whole pages dedicated to him in the White Book of the Kingsguard. Dunk cared more about honor than coin, so in this sense he's richer than a Lannister.
Wise words ❤
I don't understand the seer saying that people would rejoice in Egg's death if he was beloved.
Egg was loved by the people but in royal terms not so much. Its like being part of the 1% but you dont mingle with em.
Yes I was wondering the same, she may have been referring to the nobles who knew him but hated his empathy for the common folk.
Why aren’t they showing us the young aemon
I think it's because at this point in the storyline, Aemon is in the Citadel studying to become a Maester.
He's not there or relevant to this story...
Why wasn’t Aemon mentioned I wonder
"Trying to hatch dragon eggs" killed him? How? What's so dangerous about that? Does this story get more specific in any book? I need details.
So Egg actually succeeds hatching dragons. His eggs go to Daenerys…
Egg; was the mad king's grandfather not his dad
Thats right , Aemon mistaken even he's a maester 😅 , no blame he is too old .
@The_GreenseerNo, the show had to age up a few characters so there wouldn't be underage sex. That's why Jaehaerys II got deleted.
they changed it up for the show to simplify it. In the books Jaeharys II was the mad King‘s father, but for the show, they skipped him and just went ahead and made it Egg. Not a big deal , nobody in the show is gonna know any different which is what this is.
@heatherpayne1995 Nice
D.U.N.K
*Best abbreviation wins
Dunc and Breanne please!
Bloodraven please
So is one of them the mad king
He is the grand son of egg
The question is why aemon is blind? Is he blind from child or just blind because old?
John snow didn't we find out that he's actuly called eggon targaryen ??
Please do Duncan next. I want to hear both but I'm more interested in Duncan
I did it already
Dunk or Blood Raven ?
Why not both?
Of course I'll do both 🔥 , but which one first ? Thats the question
What did the fortune teller said to dunc
Egg was the fourth son of a fourth son... never meant to rule... Targarean weakness incarnate.
you realized Egg was a run away kid that was raped and almost castrated by his psycho brother?
There are 2 sisters that are not talk about!!!
But why do people rejoice at eggs death? What am I missing
Common People mourned Egg’s death but rejoiced by the highborn and people rejoiced as well since another Targaryen birth happened same day … I believe that’s what happened in books
@SonieN-p2xinteresting, thanks
Because Rhaegar was born (Daenerys brother).
@Veromartmand he was John Snow’s, the prince that was promised, Dad, correct? … one could sit in a whole semester of history for this show 😅
Shouldn’t it be “A Knight of the Nine Kingdoms”? Egg even named them all.
Dunk & Brienne!!!
What happened to Valaar Targaryen? Wasn't he ahead of Meklar in the line of succession?
Him and his younger brother die in the great spring sickness a year after season 1
Dunk, please!
But aerys was not aegon’s son. Aerys was his grandson. Am I wrong?
No. GoT skipped Jaehaerys II, maybe because his reign was too short or to avoid confusing non book readers with too many names.
What is Ashford connection with 9 kingdoms Ashford located where ?
Bloodtaven please
There was a good chance they'd all be dead by the beginning of GoT anyway, it was a century after AKOTSK.
Why don't you do both?! 🙂
This is what im talking about ❤ , yeah thats what im gonna do , but which im gonna do first 😅
i cant believe Egg had his son... the MAD KING HIMSELF..... ;(
In the book he is his grandson , but in the show they make it his direct son just to fit that aemon still living in that age and maybe for other more reasons !!
