Amazing cover my man! I almost prefer this to the real song (mostly because I can see what's being played)... Do you often play djenty stuff btw? You patch makes me think you do... It's that noise gate like effect, or maybe it's just your playing. It's all so clean!

He’s using it as a “mute”/fret wrap (it’s not typically used to “palm mute” but I guess you could), sometimes when you are playing with an amp the bit of string behind the “nut” of the guitar (it goes from nut to tuning pegs) will kinda resonate, or make noise that is unwanted. So you can buy and actual fret wrap for like $10 but you can use anything, and in his case he used a tissue. I have and 8 string and it sometimes makes noise, I’m looking towards buying a fret wrap. I have found it’s mostly in the lower strings but it can be any string. I hope that clears it up for you :) 👍
