Patrick Rothfuss said it best: "There are three things a wise person fears; a moonless night, the sea in storm, and the anger of a gentle person." That night, Aang was all three of those things.
One cool aspect about when Aang fuses with the ocean spirit, he only pushes with his waterbending, as the moon who pulls is gone. Just the attention to any small detail in their world building is really what takes this show from a 9/10 to a masterpiece.
@@DivusMagusyeah, I just noticed something for the first time watching her watch it. Aang says maybe the spirits will unleash a devastating Spirit attack on the fire Nation and everybody dismisses the idea with dirty looks. But in the end that's exactly what they did
Yeah, Iroh turns away because he can't bear to see what's happening and Azula smiles like a maniac next to him as she watches her brother get permanently scarred by their father.
Except for the airbender, all of them appear in some capacity in the show: the firebender is Azula, the waterbender is Pakistani, and the earthbender… was originally designed to be one particular major character, but plans changed during development so they became different, but the original design was reused for a very brief character in one episode (for those who know, the flashbacks in a certain Book 3 episode…)
The idea of Sokka a brave warrior falling in love with a woman destined to become the moon... sounds like the perfect ancient legend to me. It's so romantic and yet so mystical and legendary. We have so many stories like that shared across different cultures.
And just like many stories, there's an element of coincidence to this event. Like probably in some ancient time, someone was talking about a specific animal being a harbinger of disaster and it just so happens that said animal appears before a big disaster and that story gets solidified into a legend. In this case, it was just a lunar eclipse, but it just so happened that Zhao's crusade and Yue dying happened with it and this tale about her being the new Moon Spirit got passed along. We actually get confirmations from characters later on that what happened in the siege was indeed just an eclipse...which implies that whether Zhao killed the Koi fish or not, it would still have gotten dark. It just so happened that Zhao striking the fish coincided with the start of the eclipse and Yue dying coincided with the end of it.
@neses886 first off: this was never confirmed to be a lunar eclipse. secondly, the idea that zhao killing the fish and a lunar eclipse just so happening to happen at the same time is INCREDIBLY lame and also not consistent with the themes of the rest of the show and episode (spirits and their connection to the natural world are very prominent in the series), and thirdly, the moon turns red and the benders lose his bending after he puts the fish in the bag. last i checked, the moon dosent turn red during an eclipse lmao. also yue actually DID become the new moon spirit, as we see her later in the show. im not sure how you managed to be so incredibly misinformed about this
@@CutTheVioletWire it was actually confirmed in the show that it was a lunar eclipse! Katara said this in The Library episode in book 2: "That makes sense. Think what the lunar eclipse in the North Pole did to the waterbenders. This is huge." I really don't play this card often, but I've watched all episodes of Avatar as it aired back then in Nickelodeon and rewatch it a couple of times a year or just let it play in the background...so I'm kinda sure of that.
@@nicomeneses886 based on literally every other piece of evidence provided by the series, she definitely did not mean lunar eclipse in the normal way. it was a lunar eclipse, yes, but it was a supernatural one caused by the death of a spirit. its made super clear by literally everything else in the show, and to ignore that to say its just a coincidence is incredibly ignorant, and quite frankly stupid.
@@nicomeneses886I’m sure the eclipse was based on what was done to the moon spirit, we clearly see that when the moon is captured the moon turned red and when it was killed the world went colorless, this was no natural event at all, this was entirely based on what was happening to the moon spirit, I have also watched the show several times including very recently.
A cool aspect when the moon died, Yue's eyes were still blue while everything else was black and white. She had part of the moon spirit. Small detail very well portrayed
Exactly. I love every time Iroh steps up and faces down his own side when he realizes they are in the wrong. Team Avatar are technically the enemy but Iroh will absolutely stand with them at the drop of a hat against the more corrupt and evil Fire Nation members. ANGELA, STOP READING THIS! SPOILERS BELOW!
It's one of my favorite parts in Legend of Korra, seeing Iroh has basically become the only non-Avatar to have access to the Spirit World and is living his best afterlife there when Korra visits.
Aang's fusion with the ocean spirit is one of the most awe inspiring and terrifying scenes in the series. I mean, he took on the ENTIRE Fire Nation invasion navy like they were ants. Also, while the moon spirit is dead they made one of the most incredible visual artistic choices in the series. Everything is in black and white, with the exception of the fire blasts and what they light, Aang and the ocean spirit fusion, and... Yueh's eyes. SO GOOD!
I always viewed the final scene as something that the Ocean Spirit did, not Aang. At the end of the scene Aang looks like he's coming out of a trance, and in a later episode he described as having a bad dream and he couldn't control his body. The "No, it's not over" line was the Ocean Spirit saying it. Basically Ocean Spirit got VERY angry when the Moon Spirit was killed, and as a final act of desperation it took control of the Avatar's physical body and avatar state power to unleash all it's vengeance. It only stopped when it noticed that the Moon Spirit had returned, and then it gave Aang control of his body again. Then it killed Zhao on it's own.
If you look back to the very first episode, Iroh says, "A man needs his rest" and Zuko says, "I can't rest, I must find the Avatar". Now, on the last episode, Zuko says, "I must rest" and Iroh says again, "A man needs his rest".
I missed that callback, but I was touched when Iroh said, “A man needs his rest.” Zuko I think finally got the lesson Iroh was trying to teach him. (Of course I haven’t seen season 2 so no idea if that sticks 😃)
34:47 I love how all the waterbenders immediately bow down by default the moment they see the Ocean Spirit, together as one culture. It really strikes home the immense cultural and religious importance the Ocean Spirit has to the Water Tribe, and the awe (and fear?) of what they are witnessing. Little details like these are what makes this story so amazing.
It's such a beautiful detail: Aang's avatar state is triggered by the death of the moon spirit, and he walks into the spirit oasis and is empowered by the ocean spirit. You can see, the form they take resembles a koi fish! And then, when the moon spirit is restored, you can see them turn and look at the moon, then fizzle away. Not when the fight was over, but when the balance was restored. I wonder, was the ocean spirit trying to enact revenge? It wasn't mindless destruction, it only targetted the fire nation, but is something so violent it's normal nature? Kept in check by the harmony of the ocean and moon's duality? So deep. This show man. Unreal.
To also add another detail to that when in the giant form Aang only ever Pushes water and the enemies away because he's possessed by the Ocean spirit or Push while the Ocean spirit was Pull
I am certain that was revenge, and it would not end with one fleet annihilated. No, I think it may well have headed for the Fire Nation home islands. But its partner was restored. So the world didn't see the full wrath of the mournful vengeance of the Ocean itself.
I don't think that was the case that time. The trigger for the Avatar State being last ditch and nigh uncontrollable, I mean. It seems like this might've been an intentional connection. The spirit definitely helped Aang trigger the state, but his actions seemed more deliberate than the other times we've seen the Avatar State. Like the move was to connect with the other spirit to temporarily become that balance in order to fight back. If that makes sense.
19:14 I always assumed Yue's father overheard Sokka defend her and decided he was the best chance of protecting her. He might have been in denial about his vision of her leaving the mortal world, hoping he could prevent it. I imagine that's why he's not mad at Sokka for failing to protect her at the end. He knew it was her destiny.
I thought they did a good job with Sokka & Yue even though they had less than three episodes to get the relationship working. So you could feel the emotion when she gives her life for the moon spirit.
Eh, I think they could’ve cut out the whole betrothal storyline and it would’ve worked a lot better. Most of their interactions are just going back and forth about whether or not they should even spend time together. I don’t even know why they loved each other, other than Sokka thought Yue was pretty and Yue thought Sokka was funny.
33:58 katara couldn't have healed the fish because without the moon spirit, there is no water bending. Also, on an unrelated note, I think that a cool detail that could be overlooked is that when Aang and twi are water bending, they are only pushing the water, since lah represents pulling as the moon.
There is a pretty cool theory, that says that since the Avatar cycle goes water, earth, fire and air the next Avatar was actually supposed to be Yue. But since Aang was still alive, she was just born without spirit. Also, Iroh's line "whatever you do to that spirit I shall unleash upon you tenfold" goes so hard.
Well, we’ve never seen an equivalent in the Korra series. Since it was never established that Raava needed a blank vessel, Yue could just have been born with poor health. It does happen.
I gotta say your reactions are really making me appreciate the show so much more. I love how much you care about Zuko and I cannot wait to see what you think about his character development in future seasons And btw his sisters name is azula
It's always kind of chilling when Aaang and the Ocean Spirit fuse. Like, you just feel that the Ocean Spirit is in a stage of primal rage when their partner/counterpart is killed senselessly and mercylessly by that moster. When Aang offers himself as a vehicle for their revenge they become unstoppable.
Zuko's sister was first shown in episode 12 next to Uncle Iroh while they were watching Zuko's duel with his father. She was on one side of Iroh while Zhao was on the other. Its at 26:50 of your episode 12 reaction if you wanna see her reaction to the duel lol but its better to do so after watching the first couple episodes of season 2 imo. Also it was the ocean spirit(the black fish) that Aang combined powers with at the end of the battle not the moon who was dead. This was a great reaction and thoughts vid to a really good couple of episodes
That was Moon and Ocean in an eternal dance. What did he think Moon's partner was going to do when she died? That was Ocean getting revenge by possessing the avatar, the second spirit.
I absolutely could not keep my face in front of Koh. However, your face journey and inability to hide your emotions is what makes you such a great reactor!
When I first saw the reasoning for Pakku giving in to teaching Katara, I wasn't that keen, but then I realised it was deeper than what appeared on the surface level 'she's the love of my life's grandchild'. He would have had to process that values he was living by and instilling on the younger generation, are what drove Kana away and prevented her from being happy in the North. He must have realised through this personal connection that he, and the Northern tribe, needed to change for the future.
I fully believe the chief knew his daughter was gonna die then, and he saw how happy Sokka made her and how well he treated her. He knew they were in love, and so he wanted her last moments to be with someone who she loves.
I've seen a number of reactions to these episodes, and I just wanted to express my appreciation that you got the start of siege pt1, with Katara excelling at her lessons. Nobody else pays it any attention, but it's such a great moment to me.
I think Yue's character demonstrates the show's excellent storytelling. She was introduced as a side character who we only recently got introduced to. To think, we've known her for only three episodes and her death still hits hard! It's in part how young she was, and a lot to do with how she knowingly and willingly chose to sacrifice herself, without hesitation, and the reaction of the people affected by her death, combined with the poetry of how the moon would be a constant reminder to them about their loss.
14:45 - just a glimpse of how great Iroh is as a father, man, and just the BEST character in this entire show. Let the tear-bending begin!! Iroh is far and away the best character in this entire show, bar none.
I think, and I could be wrong, this is the first time we see Uncle Iroh mad? Him using his "dad voice" and telling Zhoa "whatever you do to that spirit, i will unlease on you 10 fold! let it go!" is such a cool scene. Can't wait for you to experience the rest of the show. It really is well written and has some really cool stories and character arcs.
25:09 If you go back to the season 1 episode "The Storm," when the "camera" cuts away from Zuko during his agni-kai with his father, and cuts to Iroh for the reaction to Zuko's face being burned, you'll see a young girl sitting next to Iroh smiling. That's Zuko's sister...
Great reaction as always :) Your thoughtful analysis and humanity makes you one of if not the best reaction channels. You'll find out who Zuko's sister is soon, and fyi I would have lost my face at the first jump scare haha
We have already seen the sister, Azula. Lots of times: she's in the intro! Also, she was next to Iroh watching the Agni Kai in "the Storm". The Baboon spirit ("Go Away") was voiced by Mark Hamill. When you hire somebody as good as Mark Hamill, you better use him! Koh would have gotten me. There are a few easter eggs in the show for those that understand and read Chinese, because they made effort to get that right- they hired a Chinese calligrapher as a production advisor, just like they hired a martial art expert to get the different fighting styles right. It is a matter of respect; but what other American kiddie show would have bothered to pay that respect to its Asian inspiration. Iroh is the boss. No spoilers about Zhao.
"If you love somebody that can't freely love you back, then you need to move on" is exactly what you should do but all I can think in response is 'good luck with that'. Like you said loving Yue from afar would almost be enough for him. It's easy for many to stay in that almost enough place till the pain becomes too much. Which is why he volunteered for a dangerous mission because I think he knew he couldn't just move on. Love sick teens stuff be hard, lol. Also I would have totally lost my face to Koh.
Wow the parallel when she say zuko lucky when zuko rows a boat and the water tribe soldier patrolling. And then at last episode zuko like : I WAS LUCKY TO BE BORN 😢
Zuko's sister's name is Azula and you actually have already seen her. She was in the flashback episode - the girl in the audience who smiled when Zuko got his face burned at the Agni kai with his father.
So the giant Koi Godzilla wasn't just the power of the Avatar State, but also the power of the Ocean spirit. That's why even after Aang powered down there was some of the bright blue water that was able to take Zhao; that part was purely the Ocean spirit angry at what Zhao did. Also Iroh telling Zuko to rest is the exact same line he told Zuko in episode 1, but Zuko ignored him back then. The fact he listens now shows his character development.
Thank you for adding the best line this season. The conversation between Sokka and the Chief at the end is one of my favorite moments of the entire show.
Just remember this was for the cartoon network. A kid's station, so they used euphemisms to explain adult concepts like death. So Princess Yue is... gone. ...Fishing? ...Rogue? I hate using euphemisms for death. she died. she's dead. it's that simple. she is not gas that has "passed". she is not somewhere to be found since she was "lost." Only in America do they "spare" children (and adult children!) from the facts of life. Death and taxes are normal. You don't have to be brutal, just a tender "she died." So while Aang is a kid and might not do something "messy" with Zhao, he was merged with a very, VERY old spirit, so I won't say what La did with Admiral Zhao as punishment for "ending" the moon spirit Tui.
The "since I lost my son, I think of you as one of my own" part is shattering. It's amazing how a show can deliver such a solid first season, and the following ones are EVEN BETTER. I think you already knew this but the voice of Fire Lord Ozai is Mark Hamill. When he read the script for the show, he said it was most likely going to be cancelled at episode 4 because he felt it was "too smart" for kids, but that he was glad it had continued because it's a show that plays up to the kids and doesn't underestimate them. I like what you say about all these kids being affected by trauma. It's something to remember throughout the series. All of the child/teen characters that appear are characters born in the war. The war has shaped their behaviors, and this can be seen a lot in the Fire Nation characters. Of course, Iroh, Ozai, Paku, all of them were also born during the war, but they are now adults. And Zhao is a character with a bit of a megalomaniac complex and the world is better off without him. Regarding what you say about "why the waterbenders didn't cause an avalanche or something"; having watched the series several times, I think the bending of an element is not the same for everyone, and depends a lot on the inner power and training each person has. That's why sometimes fire beats water, or even a single earthbender could defeat 5 others at a time (write this down somewhere :P). By the way, get ready, you're going to love to hate Azula; she's by far one of the most capable antagonists I've ever seen in a series, and dangerous as f***. And in closing, I know this must be the most repeated comment in the reactions to this episode, but: "everybody is a gangsta, until Uncle Iroh raises his voice".
I just love how in the previous episode, Aang said, “Maybe they’ll unleash a crazy spirit attack!” And we laugh it off but that’s exactly what happened Lol love these videos and can’t wait to see your reaction to season/ book 2!
Every year, I always find my new favorite RUclipsr first time watching ATLA and this year she's my favorite! I love seeing new people being introduced to one of the most important shows of my life.❤
"Whatever you do to that spirit, i will unleash on you tenfold. LET IT GO NOW!!!" Even you who loves the kind uncle iroh knows that when a kind person gets angry, you better duck and cover.
I think it's because it feels more like a kids show in season 1 and there's a stigma for some people that kid shows/movies can't be good. We know that's not true, but I think some people overcompensate trying to make sure that the reactor doesn't write the show off as "just a kids show".
this series finale is so beautiful! also, about your question towards the end, unfortunately katara wont be getting any tattoos. aangs tattoos are a traditional practice exclusive to the air nomads. an airbender receives their tattoos when they master every style of airbending and they also signify the flow of chi through an airbenders body. i dont think any other tribe or nation has a similar practice, they just get the title of "master". i cant wait for your reaction to season 2, its even more incredible, epic, and emotional if you can believe it!
The ocean spirit did indeed release a spirit attack as Aang suggested initially. Interesting also, that when the chief talked about faces we would not see again, it flashed to Yue, but not long enough to foreshadow her death too much. I think these episodes are some of my favourites.
I truly truly hope you have the same empathy and understanding of Azula, Zuko’s sister. She’s the other side of a coin, to make a metaphor. She is a complex character, way more than a lot of people realize. With your empathy and compassion for these characters that I’ve seen so far, I hope you’re able to see the truth about Azula and don’t let your base impression of her blind you to her depth. I also truly believe that Zuko and Iroh are so blessed to have each other. That relationship is one of the most emotionally impactful things I’ve ever seen. And I love how wholesome and beautiful it is. Also, Yue saved the world that night. Aang helped fend off the Fire Navy, but Yue literally saved the world by sacrificing herself. I hope that the entire world knew of her sacrifice and not just the Northern Water Tribe. Because she saved everyone.
Iroh was always well liked, but in more recent years he seems to have moved up to nearly the fan favorite for many people. I think that's because, as adults, we have a much deeper appreciation for him and his wisdom. He remains one of my favorite characters in any media. I have always been a fan of the "older mentor who is pretty silly but is secretly one of the most powerful characters in the show" trope because it makes their jovial nature that much more impactful and vice versa.
"He says she was born lucky and I was lucky to be born". Definitely one of the worst shits I have heard a father tell a son in all media and sums up their relationship very well. Tells you that bastard was eager to jump at the chance of punishing Zuko disproportionately for something so wrong like defending the lives of their own soldiers. What a quote.
i really love hearing your thoughts on the episodes at the end. your empathy and understanding for these characters makes your reactions very enjoyable, can’t wait for more!
It’s ironic because Zhao wanted to be legendary for slaying the moon but Yue became legendary for becoming the moon spirit. And the Northern Water Tribe was against women waterbending beyond healing yet it’s a woman who became the moon spirit and ultimately gives them the ability to bend water in the first place.
What I really like is that the Episodes have this theme of Ying and Yang and we think oh look opposing sides that's so fitting. But really there is a big character that doesn't fit with the theme. Zuko... He is what Ying and Yang actually means, having both sides inside you
zuko's "you've found a master" while getting ready to blowup the ice prison and so badass. also his "you rise with the moon, i rise with the sun". i think zuko has a cool voice overall. and roku. roku has the most mesmerizing voice in the whole show and i love his monologues
The first book is truly special, but the show definitely picks up so much steam now. Some of the best parts of the show are about to be introduced. I can’t wait.
It’s a surreal moment to realize that for those few minutes, when the ocean spirit lent Aang its energy directly and the moon was gone, for that short time, Aang was not only The Last Airbender…but The Last Waterbender as well.
Be glad that Koh would easily steal your face-the way you wear your emotions on your sleeve (and face) is what makes watching your reactions so enjoyable! Thank you for sharing this with us!!
I fell in love with this series from season one and I have so many fond memories of watching this show. Yes seasons two and three go even better, but I still absolutely love season one and I'm kinda irked that people seem to treat it as "lesser". Avatar is an amazing show, all three seasons of it, no exceptions.
I kept forgetting Zuko’s sister’s name when I first watched, so I just called her Zukette. 😂 This is SUCH a good show. Season 1 is great, it’s just missing 3 or 4 awesome characters. (I hope you’ll react to Buffy one day!)
Oh, man. If you get this teary eyed just hearing Iroh talk about how he feels like Zuko is his son, because he lost his own. I'm NOT ready for tales of Ba Sing Se. I saw it was posted a few days ago and that's one of the things that brought me to your channel and this reaction series. I'm working my way there patiently, but now know I'm bouta shed some tears with you once I reach it lol..
Oh i think theres gonna be a lot of tears from a certain funnyligal in this two parter!Awesome reaction as always loving being a part of your Avatar journey!😊
Zuko’s sister’s name is Azula, she’s a great character can’t wait to see your thoughts on her haha. Just so you know, you were saying Katara should heal the moon spirit, she couldn’t because no moon means no waterbending (her healing is a part of waterbending) and the fish was already dead (she can’t revive people from the dead). As far as Zhao being dead or alive that was a big debate when this show was first airing. Mild spoilers: you won’t get a definite answer unless you watch the sequel series The Legend of Korra. Personally I always loved season 1, it has some of my favorite episodes! But season 2 and 3 definitely just get better and better, there’s so much good stuff coming up!
Also, Azula is voiced by the same voice actress as Delilah Briarwood, the inimitable Grey DeLisle (who also voiced Asajj Ventress and Padme in Clone Wars)
SPOILER ALERT Actually, Katara can bring people back from the dead using that specific water (water from the spirit oasis). Remember what Aang says at the beginning of book 3: "I didn't just go down did I? I was gone. And you brought me back."
I'm sure if you thought on it you'd have realized an emperor without an hier is at risk. Given how you like Zuko for his personality, can't wait to see your reaction to firelord's favorite child.
I know is easy to miss the first time but Katara's healing is a waterbending technique. Killing the moon spirit removed waterbending itself, so Katara can't use healing. Yue's sacrifice was the only way.
I love the complexity of the writing in this show. Like Yue's father asking Sokka to guard Yue instead of her future husband. Yue's father knows that his future son in law doesn't really care about Yue all that much. Just the power he will gain. Where as Sokka truly cares about her, and will defender her with his life if needs be.
I never really thought about it before, but when we see Azula at the end of the season, the music has those kinda psycho sounding strings going on. Fitting
There is a theory that Yue was supposed to be the next avatar in the cycle, but without the spirit of the thousands of avatars prior she was silent when she was born. So the moon spirit simply filled the empty space in her soul, which is why she was able to give that part back to save the moon
And when you hear Azula, see if you recognize Lady Briarwood from The Legend of Vox Machina. Obviously she did this series first, so to get her to play Lady Briarwood was amazing. It's funny you're seeing this in reverse.
Man. I've watched this series over 50 times at this point, and that last scene when Zuko tries to save the man who literally tried to kill him, who was STILL trying to kill him... it gets me. It speaks so much to the actual core of who Zuko is as a person. He was never really a villain, but a victim.
You were feeling exactly what the creators wanted the viewers to feel about the Fire Nation: as soon as you hear their themesongs you feel scared of them immediately, and this is still true for me even after rewatching this series countless times
"Katara, you've advanced more quickly than any student I've ever trained. You have proven that with fierce determination, passion and hard work, you can accomplish anything. Raw talent alone is not enough."
The northern watertribe was so out of touch with the rest of the world that it became a huge disadvantage for them which sucks when you remember its whats kept them safe for 100 years. Imagine how much better prepared they couldve been (even without any modern world knowledge) if they trained the boys and girls in both combat, bending and healing instead of segregating them
Militarily speaking, separating the genders between Warriors and healers is stupid. Like, take out the sexism angle and it would still be stupid from a tactical standpoint. Having waterbenders who are capable in both combat and healing only makes their military stronger. If an enemy was to find out that only the women are capable of giving emergency first aid, all they would need to do is attack the females.
Listen, your first girlfriend turning into the moon isn't something you just "get over." That kind of an experience is rough, buddy. Also, the "death and destruction bit" at the beginning when I knew about Yue was a fire blast to the heart!
This show really knows how to do finales. And I love that fans disagree on which finale is best (although I think many fans would say they get better every season)
i’m sad that Yue’s death is so quick because they couldn’t do anything too traumatizing for the show - but at the same time i’m kinda glad because i wouldn’t recover from it ps: you’re about to meet the best villain in history; i really hope you show us your reaction to her introduction speech
35:30 small detail the only colour in this scene are Yue's eyes showing her connecting with the moon 33:25 Damnn Iroh is so fine I mean galleee I'd let him talk to me like that everyday
The best kid-shows take the kids seriously. And with this, they get great. After this final I thought they can`t surpass this. But they did. This was not Aang alone. Much of this power was from the water-spirit. And Zhao, well I don`t want to spoil you. You see it very much later.
The form Aang takes in that battle is actually a giant koi fish. It's him literally merging with the Ocean spirit. A lot of people kinda misunderstand and think that scene was Aang just going into the Avatar state intentionally, but it was triggered by the Moon spirit's death and it was entirely the Ocean spirit in control, as if it possessed Aang really. And if you'll notice, the Ocean spirit only stopped when it saw the Moon had returned. Which I think is very beautiful.
Wearing your heart on your sleeve makes you a great reaction vlogger (and I am sure a wonderful person). Please do not change that. You are going to love Avatar so much. Can't wait to see it.
Patrick Rothfuss said it best:
"There are three things a wise person fears; a moonless night, the sea in storm, and the anger of a gentle person."
That night, Aang was all three of those things.
One cool aspect about when Aang fuses with the ocean spirit, he only pushes with his waterbending, as the moon who pulls is gone. Just the attention to any small detail in their world building is really what takes this show from a 9/10 to a masterpiece.
Oh damn, I never caught that.
I'm grateful for this community because I'm learning new things all the time.
You also see Zhao get pulled into the water once the moon is back, reinforcing this even more!
@@to0muchtoanthe show has so many small things I still notice with each watch through and that's after at least 60 watch throughs.

This is huge."
I really don't play this card often, but I've watched all episodes of Avatar as it aired back then in Nickelodeon and rewatch it a couple of times a year or just let it play in the background...so I'm kinda sure of that.
The animation of the series is often quite good, but The Siege of the North really takes it up a notch.
Yeah, Iroh's entire "Whatever you do to that spirit, I'll unleash on you TENFOLD!" just sits in my mind as one more reason to love him.
@@xuvial1391 It seems very much that the Water spirit is borrowing some of the Avatar's power.
Also the giant koi monster aang thing only does push movement type of waterbending because it is an ocean spirit while moon spirit pull ocean is push.
Aang's form when fused with La, the Ocean spirit, is affectionately known as "Koizilla" in the fandom.
There’s one of those at the beginning / end of every season
I hadnt noticed that before after multiple watches, well spotted.
Unreal.
What a brilliantly spotted detail! I have watched this series a few times and comments like this make me appreciate it even more. Thanks :)
Have you been in high seas for real? i can tell you yes nature is very brutal the sea can become very violent
It's definitely something that makes you think, "That's rough, buddy..."
@@cctomcat321 ”Shh, I’m trying to watch.”
I've always loved this theory
Never liked that theory
Well, we’ve never seen an equivalent in the Korra series. Since it was never established that Raava needed a blank vessel, Yue could just have been born with poor health. It does happen.
I gotta say your reactions are really making me appreciate the show so much more. I love how much you care about Zuko and I cannot wait to see what you think about his character development in future seasons
And btw his sisters name is azula
NOW the show gets VERY good. Enjoy the ride!
As much as I love all of this show, season 1 was definitely the weakest
@toddmaliepaard9777 I find that so interesting because I think it's delightful. I can only imagine what awaits me in season 2
@@funnylilgalreactsyou're going to have so much fun with this next season!
This show just keeps ramping up!
Oh boy I can't wait for her reaction to "Twinkle Toes" and "The Boulder"
Agreed
Oh he knew alright, he even says that he got a vision of her becoming the Moon Spirit.
Bro don't make me think new things and cry.
Why would you do this to me!? 😭
Then why would he arrange her marriage to Han, or not break the betrothal when he realized what you’re suggesting?
I've seen a number of reactions to these episodes, and I just wanted to express my appreciation that you got the start of siege pt1, with Katara excelling at her lessons. Nobody else pays it any attention, but it's such a great moment to me.
Plus in the last episode she even referred to how pure talent isn't enough by itself, she really understands the characters
It's hard to believe my favorite character doesn't appear until Season 2, but I can't wait
Me 2!
Agreed, I’m chomping at the bit waiting for the best bender to appear.
@@MidoriyamaRArekusu I love the Bolder!! Even if he is conflicted.
@@danielnalleyjr6975 Indeed, I mean, even Sokka loves the Bolder, and he’s a great judge of character.
Your favorite character must be the melon lord.
You’re right, normally Iroh is calm, cool and collected, when he was speaking to Zhao he was pissed
Those last two episodes had a great pop up video version. KOH- the mug mugger.
Me when I successfully hold a laugh in an awkward situation. "I must be going now!"
Love how they did their take on the old Princess Kaguya tale with Princess Yue returning to the Moon.
"Dagobah?" is why I love you.
Notice how Yue's eyes were blue where everything was grayscale? Love that bit of detail
You don't have to be brutal, just a tender "she died."
So while Aang is a kid and might not do something "messy" with Zhao, he was merged with a very, VERY old spirit, so I won't say what La did with Admiral Zhao as punishment for "ending" the moon spirit Tui.
The use of lighting and color in the final episode is breathtaking.
Also, You see the monkey's face when Ko keeps changing faces. That was a nice detail.😊
" maybe theyll unleash an attack on the fire nation! " everyone judges but he proceeds to do that.
That look you gave about Zhou was epic! Lol
I think people undersell Book 1 a bit. Book 2 and 3 are undoubtedly better, but Book 1 is still very solid.
I don’t think anyone thinks the first season is weak, just compared to where the show goes though….
I think it's because it feels more like a kids show in season 1 and there's a stigma for some people that kid shows/movies can't be good. We know that's not true, but I think some people overcompensate trying to make sure that the reactor doesn't write the show off as "just a kids show".
Both episodes are very powerful, so much happens. The last episode is definitely up there as one of my all time favourites.
this series finale is so beautiful! also, about your question towards the end, unfortunately katara wont be getting any tattoos. aangs tattoos are a traditional practice exclusive to the air nomads. an airbender receives their tattoos when they master every style of airbending and they also signify the flow of chi through an airbenders body. i dont think any other tribe or nation has a similar practice, they just get the title of "master". i cant wait for your reaction to season 2, its even more incredible, epic, and emotional if you can believe it!
"Moon spirit yeti."
To quote Sokka. "It's a fish... see the fin?"
This is SUCH a good show.
Such a good finale. Some dialog could have been better, but Iroh threatening Zhao about the fish is so crazy good, you could FEEL it. Great scene.
I’m so glad you remembered about Iroh’s connection to the spirit world 🫡
"Maybe the spirits will unleash a crazy attack on the Fire Nation!"
"Nah".
Are you sure about that? 🤣
I was so devastated for Ang but he really made chapow rawrr and cowabungad them away
SPOILER ALERT
Actually, Katara can bring people back from the dead using that specific water (water from the spirit oasis). Remember what Aang says at the beginning of book 3: "I didn't just go down did I? I was gone. And you brought me back."
@@Antenox the older clone wars show. not the one everybody knows.
I'm sure if you thought on it you'd have realized an emperor without an hier is at risk. Given how you like Zuko for his personality, can't wait to see your reaction to firelord's favorite child.
@@BiggySn1p3r Ah, fair. Still cool
You channeled your inner Sokka on that "Blow your mind" pun haha
10:15 Yes we were told earlier in the season that Iroh laid siege to Ba Sing Se for 600 days and still couldn't take the city.
Zuko's sister is named Azula, and the first time you hear her speak I'll be interested to see if you recognise the voice!
You were feeling exactly what the creators wanted the viewers to feel about the Fire Nation: as soon as you hear their themesongs you feel scared of them immediately, and this is still true for me even after rewatching this series countless times
And then Sokka with his overflowing rizz 😂😂😂
And I love that fans disagree on which finale is best (although I think many fans would say they get better every season)
season two finale >>>
i’m sad that Yue’s death is so quick because they couldn’t do anything too traumatizing for the show - but at the same time i’m kinda glad because i wouldn’t recover from it
ps: you’re about to meet the best villain in history; i really hope you show us your reaction to her introduction speech
as dangerous and menacing as Koh is, he is kind of a real one for just telling Aang what he needed to know.
35:30 small detail the only colour in this scene are Yue's eyes showing her connecting with the moon
33:25 Damnn Iroh is so fine I mean galleee I'd let him talk to me like that everyday
Idk why but seeing and hearing Roku is always a treat!
No, Katara couldn't have healed the moonspirit. You saw the waterbenders lose their powers the moment the moon spirit was removed from the pond.
Avatar Aang + Ocean Spirit = KOI-Zilla!!
The best kid-shows take the kids seriously. And with this, they get great.
After this final I thought they can`t surpass this. But they did.
This was not Aang alone. Much of this power was from the water-spirit.
And Zhao, well I don`t want to spoil you. You see it very much later.
You're in for a treat. The series only gets better as it goes.
I've watched 30+ reactions to this show and this is by far the most wholesome and enjoyable series yet!
You're so emotional about everything you watch, it's great, I really should watch your reactions more often lol
Wearing your heart on your sleeve makes you a great reaction vlogger (and I am sure a wonderful person). Please do not change that. You are going to love Avatar so much. Can't wait to see it.
That toward the camera wink was everything.
