We have had almost NO snow. So you put heavy fresh snow on top of rotten snow, and you get avalanches.

Rotten snow! Great, now we have to worry about the rotting of snow! WTF do we do now? Maybe we can throw tax dollars on top of it to hide it, or we can appoint a rotten snow czar to manage the progress of rott!

Whoa I used to work at a ski resort in CA we used to blasted mountains sides at risk for avalanche… someone didn’t do their job

Sierra Nevada is not a playground. Avalanches occur as a matter of course when an entire mountainside is heavy laden with snow. I guess the best you can do is what John Muir did throw yourself on your back and spread your arms to prevent sinking and enjoy the ride as the most spiritual and exhilarating he'd ever experienced [The Yosemite 1912] Though having a pair of skis strapped to your body complicates things...

Suggest beacons even inbounds when snowpack isn't stable. I put them on my kids depending on the conditions. Take an Avi course and support your local mountain rescue teams and functions.

Fault by resort to have these dangerous conditions. I live A-basin the legend Colorado and ride there, these things don't happen, cannons mitigation for to keep riders safe or don't open runs. I also ride Loveland Pass, your on your own Backcountry

Where the hell are the 'avalanche' triggering cannons?
You know the people who trigger avalanches to get them off the mountain?

We have a Rare protected sleeping bear near by and it would be cruel to the bears to use cannons around the area! Liberal ways man! We love our bears to sleep in peace and harmony with nature!😮😅😂

That's not always a given ; I worked Squaw Valley back in 93. Weeks after a good storm series there was a 150' long teardrop avalanche off of one of the Shirley lake chairs. Weeks of grooming and skiers pounding that section down had done nothing to stop that eventual slide from occurring.

There is a lot more things going on that you don’t put on. So funny what news stations “of today” pick and choose what people see.

Television News is like any other program on television, that is not a commercial or rather a program scheduled to break up commercials.
      Nice generic fact though.

You know if these skier's and snowboarders would wear a AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVER, LEARN HOW TO USE IT, AND HOPEFULLY TAKE A LEVEL 1 AVY COARSE, TAKE A LEVEL 2 ALSO WOULD BE IDEAL.BUT getting buried,it would make a big difference finding a person because they wore their AVALANCHE TRANSCEIVER IN BOUNDS NOT JUST IN THE BACKCOUNTRY.-----I always wear mine when riding, I work at Steven's Pass Ski Resort in Washington State and there's over 230 path way's in the boundary at Steven's Pass.I took a Level 1 and 2 avy coarse back in 98 ,all that knowledge sure comes in the handy and I just don't use it in the Backcountry.

How does Palisades patrol still have jobs? They killed someone and then opened dangerous terrain the very next day? Do they have anyone on staff that understands snowpack?

I would suggest: Don’t ski at Palisades when there is fresh snow for at least one week.
Palisades clearly doesn’t care about the customers life’s. 😢

Sure “they” know what “they” are doing....!!!!
    “THEY” are making money!!!
Right up until someone dies or gets hurt.
Look, I love “powder” just as much as the next powder snow skier.
It’s risky sport, risky weather and risky business.
It’s been “Way Tooo Long” since I could afford to play risky.
After a hundred years of skier history in this region and at least 50 avalanches in that same century.
Aren’t protocols in place and are they effectively standard procedure?
    Thanks
