Winfred Walton (1996 Mr. Basketball - Detroit Pershing) - Magic Roundball Classic Highlights

After averaging 28 points, 16 rebounds, and 6 blocks as a senior, Winfred Walton, a six-foot-nine center out of Detroit Pershing, was named Michigan's Mr. Basketball in 1996, bookended by Robert "Tractor" Traylor (1995) and Shane Battier (1997). Walton was named a McDonald's All-American and also made an appearance in the Magic Johnson Roundball Classic (formerly the Dapper Dan Roundball Classic), scoring 26 points in front of a home state crowd at the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Walton was slated to join Syracuse but did not qualify academically, resulting in his relocation to Fresno State, in which he played one season under Jerry Tarkanian. Playing alongside Rafer Alston, Chris Herren, and Tremaine Fowlkes, Walton averaged 11.1 points and 6.1 rebounds for a 21-win squad that reached the NIT semi-finals before falling to eventual tournament champion Minnesota.
Following one college season, Walton declared for the 1998 NBA Draft but went undrafted.

This is my right hand man we grew together down the street from each other. He played in the McDonald’s game with The late great Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett, etc. he was predicted to go high as top five talent. It didn’t work out that way but he was an incredible player. He could play point guard, the two guard wherever he wanted to play on the floor. He was that good. He taught me how to dribble the basketball. We use to take the basketball n walk up the street dribbling it between our legs until we reached the end of the street. If we messed up we had to start over. Eh was a monster on that court. Rest in peace my dog love u forever fam.
