Mochi making is becoming a lost art. My Dad used to do that when he was younger. My Uncle used to make it using a machine, but my Dad mentioned that it wasn’t the same. The machine made Mochi would harden quickly, where the pounded Mochi would stay soft for days. There’s still a few families in Hawaii that get together every year to pound mochi. The news stations will normally visit them. I believe I heard that the first part, the mashing of the rice, is the most important part, even more than the pounding. Nice job this year! You need to have strong QA processes and she takes the job very seriously. “You look like you’re doing something, but are you really doing something?” My 14-year-old is a master of making herself look busy (so mom and dad won’t ask her to help with something) without actually doing anything.

Adorable and yummy!!! I loved seeing the traditional mochi pounding. I’ve only made it with rice flour. My 3 year old son is exactly the same way in the kitchen- very “helpy” and spends half the time tasting the ingredients. That’s how they learn🤷♀️🤣🥰
