Morbid's most recent album, Kingdoms Distained, is a beast! One of their best albums and brought them back to form. I kinda hear you on not going back to a band after they play their "poser" card, but if a band puts out one album that's completely off the mark, then subsequently returns to their true form, I wouldn't say that having produced that one anomaly qualifies as a band showing its "true" colors, but rather just experimenting or perhaps losing their way for whatever reason. 😂

Obviously Trey won't let him back in the band and he can't even get the gig with I AM MORBID. No he definitely isn't Morbid. 1986 was long before most of their fans were even born. Commenting on Vader listening to Skynyrd on the tour bus, I've heard touring bands say they avoid listening to metal on tour because they're basically living metal on tour, so they'd rather listen to something else. Guys with cred like Matt Harvey and Joel Grind have said they do the same.

I'm over 40 & I still listen to metal. I listen to less classic rock now, then when I was younger, after hearing the same songs for years at work, I don't care to hear most classic rock ever again.
I met Trey once, he just wanted to talk about nerdy shit like video games, I don't give a shit about video games, so the conversation was very short. I also met David & despite what people say, he was actually a cool guy & his band Vltimas is pretty good. And yes,Trey is to blame for the shitty Morbid Angel album.
Speaking of metal bands that don't listen to metal, I've heard several people say that Immolation doesn't listen to metal, it's been said that even back in the early 90s they were listening to alternative shit like The Cranberries 😂.

Granted Illud is the weakest album but personally I like the guitar work on Destructos. It’s weird riffing, Dave’s lyrics and performance is the weakest part of that song. If Steve would have had a go at it and added the death to it, it would have been an extremely interesting song. The songs Dave wrote are the songs that ruined the album by far. His silly rockstar pomp and lyrics ruined f’d that album up beyond repair. Had Steve got his hands on it, it would have sounded much more appealing and interesting. Bottom line, musically there are some redeeming qualities to some of those songs they were just done with the wrong people. It sounded like Dave took way too much creative control, that is what destroys that album. I’ve been a fan since the beginning so I love all the albums for one reason or another. Personally I LOVE Heretic. The riffing is twisted and the the drumming is f’n destructive. The synergy of the drums and guitar is next level, a peak in their creative collaboration. A mix that favored the bass guitar a little more would have been welcome but the riffing is top shelf stuff…

Honestly I think Vader or many bands after an intense gig want to listen to the opposite of what they just played to recharge. Shit their ears are probably ringing too much to enjoy a metal album properly. As long as give us a great show I don't think we should force them to go full method 24/7. Just make good music. As for Mayhem Grand Declaration is an album where a band mistakingly tries going avant-garde thinking it what will elevate them to a new level of success not realizing Black Metal fans prefer a Slayer or Motorhead even AC/DC give us the same album just better songs. Mayhem like Metallica should have just released these as different projects. People then been able to forget them like all of Dave Mustaine's MD45 or whatever other non Megadeth output (we won't talk about Risk and Supercolider I am repressing those memories).
