This is my newest series! I hope you loved watching it as much as I loved putting it together. I would love your feedback on things that may have been missing or what you would like to see more of. This is a style I'm new to so any info would be appreciated 🤗💕
Shelbi I have a suggestion, maybe when you are giving people your ideas on what they should change you should bring up how much money they could save. Example, Paper towels are expensive!!!!
Yes! As a family with a budget sometimes I dont stop to think how much money I can save with a simple swap (like towels instead of paper towels). Also, doing things like buying bulk coffee beans and grinding them yourself takes an extra 30-60 sec, but your coffee tastes SO MUCH BETTER. After my MIL visited and used our grinder, she went home and bought one for herself and wont buy pre-ground coffee anymore. Also, even in smaller towns, you can often find small coffee shops that will sell beans by the pound in brown paper bags (which could be composted after you remove the metal tabs at the top).
OMG this is so so amazing!!! Maybe you could do one with Lisa again in a year or so, to see if she has implemented the things that you recommended, or to see if there's another switch she could do
I use Folgers but I don't feel bad about it. Because I can make one can last about a year and I also have a hobby farm so I use old coffee containers to portion out each critters food.
Would she be more open knowing how many alternatives are out there? I hate the feel of stainless steel straws, but I love our glass straws and want some silicone straws, as well. Bamboo straws arent as exciting to me, but I know they're a ZW favorite
Better than doing nothing! Everyone does their best in the areas they feel comfortable with so I think the facepalm is really disrespectful and an attitude like this makes it harder for the eco movement to really get to people when every little thing people do gets laughed at
angelikabatwoman I'm not trying to be disrespectful or laugh at her, I'm just saying it's wayyy easier to give up straws than to build a compost-- it's funny to me because she isn't starting off small she just jumped in lol I'm glad she is helping Shelby by even volunteering for this experience to begin with and offer to give us a glimpse of how she authentically lives. I applaud any little change anyone makes for the environment I'm just surprised how she chose to change/reacted to her options 😂
I asked my school principal if we could get a recycling bin and she asked the superintendent who said no it was a waste of time and resources but the amount of trash we produce isn't
That's crazy and sad. I'm looking at schools for my son to attend and one of my top choices introduced recycling bins at the request of students and made it a school wide initiative. The students worked out exactly how much rubbish was being created and how much could be recycled. I was impressed. Keep trying!
This is what im trying to do !! Learning to garden so that i cam maybe start an education program at the local libraries(county area) and/or BIG GOAL: getting a community garden for my home city approved!
FYI the cheapest coffee at Walmart is the great value brand for $6/lb. It seems like bulk stores are often more expensive than buying in bulk at a regular grocery store.
I wish something like this was on TV! Not only does it teach people how to be more green it puts stores on blast which will make them more likely to carry green products! Love it
So excited for this series!! A few thoughts/ideas.. at the time of the final conversation maybe sitting next to each other to have both of you on the screen at the same time (rather than the back and forth happening in this video). Also, maybe suggesting to the person/people about resources they can use to continue making changes after you're gone (like a book to read or even suggesting your own videos). I am sure new people (nonsubscribers) will be tuning in to watch this and might want to know more. I appreciate the entertainment factor in the video, makes it very enjoyable to watch and it doesn't feel like I am being lectured about the subject. Keep up the great work!!
I love this video! Check if her local town offers free or cheap compost bins. Many towns do. I got mine for $20 from city, just did a quick Google search. My garbage waste has decreased by more than half through composting.
Recycling is just so normal here in Germany that some of the stuff I see happen in the US is just super weird to me. We also would just get metal utensils whenever we had something for school breakfast or lunch that required it. Even for huge parties you usually just use metal utensils and normal plates you already own and maybe borrow a few more from your neighbour or a family member. We still aren't zero waste at all but at least we also don't use THAT much.
Just pointing out that you are premiering during a National Moment of Silence for Remembrance here in Canada. Which means I have to wait even longer to see it, after I got all excited when I clicked on it just now! The anticipation is palpable!!
Okay I’m new here and have been non-stop watching your channel but I’m finally going to comment. I’m new to the low impact thing and found your channel through a collab you did, you have been so helpful. It can be so overwhelming but the more I watch your channel the more I pick up how I can slowly start adding things into my everyday life!!! Thank you!
Heya Shel! Do you happen to have a zero waste pet video that discusses different options for pet food and treats and stuff? As well as doggie poo bags for going to the park and stuff?
I know she has one that focuses on her cat, she probably talks a little bit about dogs as well (the comment section of that video would probably be a good place to look too)
I do have a video about my cat. Although it's a little old it still applies to what I do currently. I don't have a dog and don't know much about the alternatives for them. Here's my cat video >>> ruclips.net/video/UThkMflx7IY/видео.html
I really like the idea of series and you actively helping and showing others how they can be more zero waste and eco friendly is great! It’s nice that you do the whole process with them and document it. I’d love to see more of these
Oh what a great idea Shelbi!!! This is a great series and I think it could be so effective to actually be there and see peoples every day thing! I’m so excited to see the series! PS Schnauzers are the cutest! Congrats on this series Shelbi! Such a great way to have an impact!
This is so cool! I think this is such a great idea for a series. It's great to see simple changes that anyone can make and also the habits people have that they have no idea are generating so much waste and can be easily fixed. Thank you!! :D
This is such a fantastic and unique video on sustainability! I love that you were able to visit the household, and that the family were so generous to have you for the week! It's awesome that you understood their specific needs and made suggestions for things they could change that was convient for her and her family. Parents are busy people! My sister and her family have been staying with my household for the last couple of weeks due to the coronavirus situation and I've been able to create a more sustainable collective household by getting everyone to participate in sustainable activities like composting, soft plastic recycling as well and correctly recycling in our council bin, reducing cling wrap and baking paper by using silicon covers and silicon baking tray, hang drying clothes ect. My sister even loves the DIY mouthwaste I made her. It's been really rewarding :)
I love this video so much! As a mom of 3 in rural Wisconsin I struggle with finding ways to not waste so much. Shopping for food is my biggest struggle. Thanks for making this. Makes me feel better.
What an amazing idea! I think this is going to bring to light how much of a privilege it is to have access to big bulk stores and places with lots of options for low waste. In small towns it’s quite a hassle, and most the time ordering is best, but then you have all the packaging from mailed items. But this is still an awesome way to spread awareness and create customized plans for families and their individual needs and concerns.
Wow I love it ! It’s definitely a new serie I want to see ! I found the video too short but when I checked I saw it was more than 20 minute. We need more of this ! It could be a TV show.
This is so cool, I’m really excited for this series!! I’m hoping you have a dramatic Shaw Dawson style couch interview moment while talking to people about what they waste lol
Great video! My family all comes from rural eastern Arkansas, and they are also not "eager" to change. I think this is a great video to highlight just how far we have to go in regard to making trash and changing the environment in this country because your cousin is very typical in her lifestyle and also in her response. I tend to forget that there are people who aren't living low waste because all of the people in my life are very conscious in this area, but the reality is that most people are like Lisa! Great job on this, and I hope you have helped her with lasting change! She sounds like a fun cousin! :)
When you were talking about how you understand about having kids and how you cant lecture her on getting around certain things bc of hectic life... girl you are so open minded. Non judgemental and just so down to earth. Love this series!!
I am incredibly excited for this series to take flight. I am so sick of the tutorials on RUclips that try to show sustainability but are unable to actually give real solutions to everyday life. They say it's super simple and give the impression that it is fashionable, or say that it is free but then tell you to go out and buy all these new products. I really hope that this shows the everyday struggles as a modern consumer to go zero waste. And I really hope you continue to highlight that people are just human and not everything can be transitioned easily, and that some waste is impossible to avoid. I can't tell you how many times series says to just go down to your local shop with a bunch of mason jars and pick up all your food and shampoo from these vats where no packaging is used. Omg as someone who lives VERY close to Longview this was so refreshing to watch! We need more bulk stores around this area! Usually brookshires has bulk coffee!
I loved this video! I also love your message, Shelby. Keep up the AMAZING work. I love making changes to my life that cause me to produce less waste and/or just consume less in general. Thank you so much
Love you and your channel! So inspiring, informative, and practical! Already making changes AND you inspired my holiday gifting to be more minimal, eco friendly, and mindful! Thank you💚
Great series, looking forward to the update in January. For your cousin, I think the compost /recycling is a great start, and hopefully she will enjoy the reusable straw!

I really love this idea and the execution of the video! Congratulations girlie on making different RUclips videos and growing!
This is great! I love seeing "typical" families learn zero waste!!
Six minutes into the video and I already looooooove your cousin 🤣🤣🤣
Do you have any compost videos?
Shelbi I have a suggestion, maybe when you are giving people your ideas on what they should change you should bring up how much money they could save. Example, Paper towels are expensive!!!!
Good idea!! Thank you 👏🏾
You’re welcome. I’m still not zero waste but paper towels was easy. I bought beautiful cloth napkins from goodwill.
Yes! As a family with a budget sometimes I dont stop to think how much money I can save with a simple swap (like towels instead of paper towels). Honeychocolate yes yes yes!
I will do any form of this series! Just need a volunteer to apply 🤗
Shelbizleee if you was in nyc I would let you raid my apartment lol
@@Shelbizleee would you fly to Australia? ;)
Yes yes yes!!!!
Oh my God that fake recycling bin is the best
I like the idea so so much! I hope that a big TV company will reach out to you and give you the opportunity to make it a bigger thing
awesome idea !!!
I’d get a Netflix account if they picked you up!!! And made it into a series
I would watch that crap outta that show!
sorting through people's garbage with them and helping them make less of it is maybe my dream job? I'm so excited for this!
your cousin is hilarious lol when you were making the suggestions and she was like hmmmmmmm...
wow this would be such a job! People could hire someone to make their lives more sustainable :D
I just want to help people do it and show case it here! We have big plans 🤗
wow I'm so stoked for this
OMG this is so so amazing!!! Maybe you could do one with Lisa again in a year or so, to see if she has implemented the things that you recommended, or to see if there's another switch she could do
Love that idea!! I can definitely do that 🤗
The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup!
LMAO YES SOMEBODY SAID IT
I use Folgers but I don't feel bad about it. Because I can make one can last about a year and I also have a hobby farm so I use old coffee containers to portion out each critters food.
This is officially my absolutely favorite series!
I love how she said yes to a freaking compost but didn't wana give up plastic straws 😂😹 *facepalm*

Show her the turtle video...
Straws aren’t our biggest issue. However if you can use alternatives you should.

The school I went to for a few years had one in most hallways. Also, we had a paper towel ban and no trashcans in the bathrooms.
Bee Matney no trash cans in the bathroom sounds not good...
you need to start a street team where you train people to do this as your consulting business grows!
That would be so fun!!
This is what im trying to do !! Learning to garden so that i cam maybe start an education program at the local libraries(county area) and/or BIG GOAL: getting a community garden for my home city approved!

It's crazy, where I live you can get fined if you dont put food waste in a compost bin
Me too! Huge fines for food waste or recyclables in the garbage can.
