    The way you have these albums laid out is so satisfying to look at! It's clear you've spent many enjoyable hours on this collection and put a lot of thought into what and how you wanted to collect it. I also got a big smile about your 77 plate. Not because I don't think you'll get it. But because I think we all have that one stamp, we're holding out a dream for. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! Thank you so much for sharing.

    Did you know you had a few stamps wrongly identified in your collection? At 22:55 you have the King Edward VII stamp SG 216 1/2d blue-green from 1902, which is clearly shown in the postmark, and the lowest value from the reprinted Jubilee set, put in the position for SG 338 which should hold the the King George V stamp 1/2d deep green Downey Head with Imperial Crown watermark.
    In addition at 14:38 you show us what is supposed to be SG 842 which is the 1972 1/2d turquoise-blue with only one phosphor band at the left side. This is quite a valuable stamp as is it was only printed in the special 1972 £1 Wedgwood booklet SG DX1 in a single pane SG 841p and this only contained a single copy of this elusive stamp. The stamp you showed us on phosphorised paper is a totally different stamp issued in 1980 as SG X924 and is a very cheap stamp worth no more than 1p.

    Looking forward to your Machin video. I specialize in the 2d & 2 p values. Currently I’m writing up a reference guide tying together the catalog numbers from Scott, Stanley Gibbons, Deegam and Burgess….all cross referencing each other on just those two stamps. I’m amazed at the number of permutations that exist.

    Hi John, been subscribed for a few weeks now, enjoying your videos immensly, watched this particular video now several times, although I collected 40 years ago and now nudging 70 I decided to have another go at GB mainly used and use stock books like yourself, also I managed to get the catalogue you mentioned on EBay for £9.99 + £4.50 postage, it is a 2009 edition but like you say for GB it is invaluable, I also have the SG 2022 GB catalogue for the commemoratives but I will only collect up until end of queen Elizabeth II reign, I have no desire to collect King Charles III, anyway thank you for your advice, much appreciated, Mike

    I purchased the first 4 SG catalogues for reference. The Scotts albums which are the better ones in US to use don't have pages for souvenir sheets unless u buy the specialized of each country. I have sheets and envelopes of 2 penny reds to catalogue and put on pages. same with 2 penny blues and many of the Victorian stamps which can be plated. Got tons of un plated Victorian values so a big project for me in future. I splurged and bought a couple estate collections now have lots to do

    Good episode, John. My collection is very weak in GB. However, I do have the 2 bob blue, which I purchased after watching Graham's episode with Samuel West.

      Again, thanks for watching. I don't have a 2 bob blue (yet!), but likewise after watching Samuel West on Graham's video, I keep looking out for one, and will snag one sooner rather than later.

    Hi John, I think I saw some Australian stamps on the cover of that catalogue... Wondering if the catalogue lists Australian State stamps, before federation, NSW, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia stamps? It just so happens I collect in the same manner you do, except my bits of paper are hand written for now, just recently re sorting and added to a collection I had not touched for over 20 years, now kids are all grown up I can 're-do' my collection.

    • @johncollectsstamps
      @johncollectsstamps  2 года назад +1

      Hi Chantal, thanks for watching and for your comment. To answer your question, the Stanley Gibbons Commonwealth catalogue has a whole section of pages dedicated to the Australian States prior to federation, I hope that helps.

    Nice video, what order do you keep your Machins in your stock book, is it by the lowest SG number first gradually getting higher.

    • @johncollectsstamps
      @johncollectsstamps  2 года назад

      Hello! Chronologically, and then by SG Catalogue numbers. Both the Concise and Specialise SG Catalogues have a complete list of the Catalogue numbers (in the concise volume, there is a section at the end of the book that specifically lists the Machins)

    • @Marks_Channel

      I only have the SG 'Collect British Stamps' book which has them all in but they are scattered throughout the book by year so its not so easy to find them. I know I am bound to miss some and in a stock book that means moving a lot to make way.

    Yeah, U.S. stamp production increased wildly after WWII and today, collecting year sets is practically cost prohibitive for young people......unfortunate. Serious philatelists in the U.S. do just like you.....primarily focus on pre-1930.

    • @johncollectsstamps
      @johncollectsstamps  Год назад

      I think it's the same the world over, so much material is produced just to be collected, not it's original use as intended.
