Hi everyone, don't forget to check out the ENTIRETY of the anituber anthology VISIONS! t.co/Hr8QATt822?amp=1
HellMouth starts next week 👹
You got that. I can’t leave it up to long
sewayaki kitsune no senko san is kawaii

Finally someone gave the elder the recognition it deserves. Heard some people write it off as bad or not as good as the rest meanwhile I'm here fucking loving it. Wanting more of this.
I think you mean mother's basement. I saw his video and I didn't liked how he wrote it off as bad as well.
It was literally one of the better shorts, possibly the best.
@@ggrapper5475 i mean i thought it was mediocre as well
@@luluna5228 Because you have no taste
As an amateur swordsman, I thought this one had the best swordplay out of the lot.
Though the Margrave's fighting style in The Ninth Jedi is also really satisfying.
This anime made me realise that there's actually very little new and original space-themed science fiction anime. It's a real shame, because just this one episodic mini-series shows just how much potential is left in already tapped properties, so who knows how much else is possible.
We're deep into a mecha renaissance, and it and space tend to go hand in hand, so maybe that's a hopeful sign!
True, the last really good one that comes to mind is like Space Dandy (2014). More space sci-fi shows came out after but they didn't feel original to me.
You sound like you would be a fan of my writing.
Hopefully, they give I Woke up on a Starship a try. The harem is a bit offputting for me, but the author captures the scale perfectly.
@@SecretIdentityStudio What mecha renaissance? I haven't found any new mecha anime in over a year. The genre is dying hard.
Star wars is my all time favorite franchise. I love it all. Canon and legends. Everything. And visions just added to that love
Oh awesome. Based on some context clues i was thinking this was set 'in' the high republic. Knowing it's a bit before is really awesome
Yeeeeh some all Star Wars positivity without hating on something else. The world needs more of that.
@@leoschautvideos For real 👏🏼
hell yeah
Thanks for covering this segment since it’s one of my favorites from Star Wars visions
Love to hear you geeking out about Star Wars. I also caught the original trilogy on their 90s return to the theaters. That was life changing. Thanks for being such positive fans of so many awesome stories! Keep it up duderinos.
When I watched the short, I was also confused by the Elder's decision to leave the Apprentice alive. The idea of "bait" seemed like a weak reason. I now think that the Elder wanted to keep the Master in top fighting form by leaving the apprentice alive. Jedi do their best fighting when they need to protect or save someone, not when they seek vengeance.
This is excellently written video and I agree and was thinking the exact same. The only line I could not make sense of was " I do wish I met you long ago when I was much stronger", it just doesn't seem to me to fit with the force fueled life-extension based on fighting.
this was my favorite of the visions shorts, and im sad to see not too many people talking about it. loved all the info and introspection you shared in this. ty!
My guess of why the old man turned to dirt is a similar yet different situation to darth sion, as in - the old dude had enough of a connection to the dark side of the force that his body was able to last much longer than any other human. But not so strong that he continuously was resurrected by the dark side like with sion.
Why I believe "The Elder" in Star Wars Visions is one of the best one's, one being closest thing we got to the Old republic, and Two What the Sith were before the Rule Of Two from Darth Bane As we see from the Elder himself Who's pretty Obvious A Highly Skilled Sith Warrior Who's Fallen or Lossed, Three The Building Suspense Of the Elder Himself and origins and Capabilities Such as (Hiding force Signature and turning to dust lol) which someone as we know The Sith lord himself Palpatine has done against the jedi when he became Chancellor, and Also teaches us another lesson about the dark side and it's greatest weakness "Time", for a simple story it us tells so much due to one's Potential Imagination but still leaving Us with greatest Mysterious of the Episode About the Sith in contrast to the Jedi and evolution of both Orders.
Hey Bonsai Pop,
Love your videos on Inuyasha, Black Lagoon, Avatar, among others. You make them quite emotional in the end in a good way. Hope to see more in the future.
I love this episode. To me, this is exactly what The Phantom Menace should have been.
Dude this video single handedly gives pure star wars channels a gigantic run for their money.
Yes
The idea of the elder being forced together by his sheer will can also (too a much greater degree) be seen in Darth sion
The Elder was my favorite, but man did it leave me wanting!
love your channel and all your videos! keep it up
I had a different interpretation, but this is video sums the episode so well
Mike with the heat! Lovely perspective breakdown
Excellent interpretation and observation. This is a great analysis. I enjoyed it
I think the elder was probably a member of the brotherhood darkness who somehow survived.
Loved that you know about legends and I felt the pain of non-canon content
Helpful context!
The Duel.
The Elder.
The Twins.
The Ninth Jedi.
Deff my favorites.
You we're right I did love it.
Thanks, now I wanna watch this again
Hope to see more episodes on visions loved the video man
Thanks for the vid
I enjoyed the elder very much, but my favorite visions episode is still The Duel (Ronin). Textually, though, I completely understand why you rate it the way you do.
The twins was a "Gurren Lagan" in a Star Wars Skin
YEEEEEESSS i love this one so much
Hey Mike, why not flex on us with your Star Wars knowledge by doing a series of short LPs of star wars games?
I could play the rouge squadron games for days dude
I dunno much about the rogue squadron series, but I've heard a lot of good things of the games! The books, however? All i know is that the rogue squadron acts like spoiled pranksters
Not gonna lie i was worried until you broke down the "new Star Wars" after that I could trust this vid
VISIONS is amazing
the Twins made me angry lmao
I honestly feel like these are low key best thing to happen to star wars in a while.
Hardly believe its from disney.
I really hope they do it again.
More stand alone or cont8nue each story
the elder is literally what star wars is supposed to be. space samurai monks
0:38
A Fanboys reference? I knew I liked you guys for a reason.
Star Wars isn't the future, it is the past.
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOO
Please review all the episodes please as some of the others didn't really go in depth as you did
Same!
The twins do be kinda sus
Boom first comment!!!
Where mike get that shirt from?
That Disney comment is so funny and true
Lmao
bby before baby yoda
A be nice with Yoda lol
I love that during the second duel, they do the light saber in the rain steaming. The only other time I have seen that was during Tartakovsky's Clone Wars. That shit still gives me goose bumps.
Right? That was so sick lol
Something about Tajin reminds me of Qui Gon Jin in "Phantom Menace." It's his nuance and stoicism that speaks volumes of what he really thinks of the state of the Galaxy.
I felt the same, Qui Gon was a SUPER badass Jedi, he didn’t get his time in the sun in the movies but he literally INVENTED force ghosts man! He taught it to Yoda after he died! It gets the tiniest mention in the third film and that’s it lol
@@BonsaiPop I was thinking more of the worldy, outsider view of the Outer Rim territories, seeing more worth in them than the Jedi Council will a few centuries from when this episode takes place. That and carrying a Green lightsaber, there's a deeper meaning to that than the standard blue blade carried by Dan or Obi Wan. I watched Beyond Ghibli's video on "The Ninth Jedi" before your video and that stuck with me.
Same. The encounter with the elder was similar to the encounter with Darth maul in the phantom menace. Both weren't sure What they were dealing with. Since Sith haven't been seen in centuries.
By the way, the Great Schism was more 7000 BBY, in Legends.
Possibly more 6000 BBY, in Disney lore, lately. Still vague.
I didnt realize Trigger did this one also. Like, The Twins is great and looks like it was ripped right from Promare, but this one doesnt look like their style of animation at all. Thats crazy
The twins is probably the most anime, and the elder is the most star wars.
The elder is also my favorite. I don't know why some people don't like it. Its so lore-friendly and the fights are so grounded and realistic.
I would pay a ton of money to watch an anime series with those characters. I was so entranced and the dialogue felt so Star Wars and not cringe or woke, just felt like what they were talking about made a lot of sense and fit what a jedi master and padawan adventure would be like.
What made 'The Elder' my favorite episode is that the Jedi master and his padawan very much reminded me of Qui-Gon Jin and Obi-Wan before TPM. This is like a Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan episode but with different characters
Throughout the episode, both protagonists learn along the way especially their fight against the lone Sith and the ending much tells you that one day the Jedi master's time will come as he grew wiser, and his faith and trust on his padawan stronger, he also realizes that his strength is diminishing and they consider themselves lucky to even survive the encounter even though the Sith they fought wasn't in his prime, not even a Sith Lord
You know that something is wrong with your new trilogy, when an anime shorts have more interesting fights than all your three movies.
That’s because
Animation has no Limitations,
@@maxpops8427 I've seen incredible love action sword fights. Have you ever seem crouching tiger hidden dragon?
Star wars 8 had amazing sword fights
@@emileroberge9459Last Jedi? lol.
One of the things I love most about this specific episode is Tajins use of actual canonical lightsaber duel teachings. When 2 duelists are clashing against one another and are currently trying to overpower the other in a blade against blade deadlock, one technique jedi are taught is to deactivate your blade and duck down while your opponent (with no opposing blade to now hold theirs in place forcing them slashes forward and leave them open) and reignite your blade through their chest. To the average viewer it's just really clever choreography but to those in the know it's a really subtle but impressive nod to thy expanded universe. It's small details like that that just go to show how much thought and care went into the creation of this episode.
I also wanted to mention that the elder had the yellow eyes, not orange or red. Most sith are portrayed with standard eyes like in the Twins or the Duel. That shows that those sith, while still utilizing the powers of the dark side, aren't wholly devoted to it. Those that have truly committed to the dark side will see their eyes change color to reflect that and the color of their eyes reflect their use of it. The elder had full blown black eyes with yellow iris' showing this dude has fully enveloped himself within the ways of the dark side, he was true evil.
It feels like there might be symbolic meaning to the move that takes the elder down as well, flicking the lightsaber off and moving into the enemies guard takes a real lack of fear since its his only defense.
This old dude reminds me kind of Darth Sion
a Sith in Legends, that holds his body together only because of his hatred, his desire to kill the jedi and maybe also because of the fear of his death
and yeah this lightsaber duel is pure brilliance, with every single move has his importance and can lead to death
I assume the old man is a Banite Sith who went AWOL at some point because he found his Order to be self-destructive and boring.
Presumably the council dismisses him as a simple dark jedi.
I'm so incredibly glad you're giving The Elder it's due. It is simply a fantastic episode and one of my top three (along with The Ninth Jedi and The Duel, though the latter is not really "lore friendly" as you well put it at all). XD
The Elder was by far my favorite episode.
thank you for this brilliant analysis.
'flex the Star Wars knowledge I have that is totally useless now'
bro same
I like how Tajin sending Dan by himself feels like an example of the Jedi's overconfidence
This story was basically a what if about an Alternate Universe Qui Gon and Obi Wan if The Siege of Naboo never happened and I loved every single second of it.
The 9th jedi is sooo goood as well. Those and The duel are The best.
Forgot toention Akakiri. Its different, but good.
This was my favorite outside of the Ninth Jedi and maybe Twins. Glad to see your a big star wars fan too! The EU was pretty cool and I appreciate you laid out the context for the episode. Great video!
The Elder was good but the 9th Jedi is the episode id love to see with its own show. Also liked the village bride. The ronin is getting its on manga i read which is cool
Awesome
All I've seen is the thumbnail and I'm so hyped! The Elder doesn't get anough love for what it did not only right but awesomely and if anyone could do it justice, it'd be y'all.
EDIT: literally every point I hoped would be made and more was in this video. Y'all even called out the elder for lookin like he was outta Ninja Scroll. However the rest of my day goes doesn't matter cuz this video's made it for me.
Besides ToB1 this is my favorite segment
Your review was fantastic. You clearly have a passion and that showed throughout the whole video. The level of freedom and live that went into this short is clear that Star Wars can be fantastic, provided that the creative team has room to breathe. I'll check Visions out!
This short felt like an awesome lost episode from an obscure Star Wars anime that would have aired on Spike TV or Toonami back during the prequel era. It had such a cool aesthetic and atmosphere, so I was surprised to see people hating on it when talking about Visions.
Sees 135 likes and no dislikes.
"I love democracy."
Then all allow me to change that with the power of democracy.
@@pingpong5877 Its treason then...
I haven't seen all of the visions episodes but, the elder is one of my favorites because it captures that spiritual aspect of star wars as well as that old star wars feel. Plus the story at least to me is really engaging and the art style blends so well with what they were tying to go with.
I love the short and this video, and I think there's even more to it. The Jedi Master's line "the seeds of misfortune, while in peaceful soil, can be easy to overlook" is ironic because two Jedi just encountered a former Sith. Evebn if he isn't from Bane's order (and he could be, he could be a master that his apprentice tried to kill but unknowingly didn't succeed) this should tip the Jedi off to something more. We the audience know that eventually the Sith will come out of hiding and take power. The Jedi assume he was just an old and decaying remnant of a dead order.
Dan's master also tells him to remember his training and his kindness, and we see in the episode how he forges connections to the children of this planet. Part of the reason why the Jedi fell is because they became so out of touch with the common folk and too embroiled in politics, while sitting in their ivory tower temple. This is something Ahsoka Tano knows all too well. Dan's master lamenting on how weak he's becoming and how power is impermanent also serve as foreshadowing for the fall of the Jedi and the Republic, even though that is centuries down the line from this.
Woop.!!!
This is some of the best Star Wars insight I've ever seen; how the Sith want control because they fear death, not because they're cackling hand-wringing villains. And the idea that the Elder's body dissolving into dirt and clay is actually his true form gives me Darth Sion vibes. Great essay, earned a sub.
*Dan survived because the Elder didn't want to kill him.*
1. The most obvious reason, he wanted to torment Tajin and have him lose his focus. Keeping Tajin distracted on Dan is Sith 101 tactics.
2. If Dan died, Tajin may have simply left, as the Jedi do not seek revenge. If Tajin leaves, he could warn other Jedi, which the Elder wouldn't want to risk.
3. It is my personal belief, the Elder wanted someone to witness his last great fight. Keeping Dan alive long enough to watch him kill his Master.
4. The Elder may have wanted to turn Dan to the Darkside after killing Tajin.
All in all, there is plenty of reasons the Elder didn't strike the killing blow on Dan. 1 & 2 are the most obvious, but 3 & 4, are totally in the Sith playbook.
The Elder is my favorite visions episode and one of my favorite pieces of Star Wars in general. Beautiful art, sound design, character creation. Man, it really is so great to me.
When the Jedi Master was about to ignite his lightsaber was I the only one who screamed FINISH HIM!? LOL
Are you guys still going to Atlanta on 7 November?
I (Mike) will be at a con in Hartford that weekend, why what's up?
You forgot to mention that from what the old man said, and if we read between the lines, the true purpose of the Sith is to defeat death.
As a fellow be star wars fan (of the old canon) I also enjoyed this one a lot. Though I was pleasantly surprised that Trigger would let their name be put on something so clearly outside of their fun but repetitive house style.
master side-bangs and padawan Daniel are my favorite jedi i lov them
I'd be Hella down for an idaten video btw
Same! Let’s see how it continues to go and we’ll see about a December video
The Elder is underrated and so glad you covered it in detail. I do wish the animation and sound design was better during the duel in the rain. The choreography is superb but their clothes are not getting wetter. The rain is not explosively evaporating off their light sabers. Although they are supposed to be fighting in the rain, the environment had no effect on them. It's just a tier below the best.
I liked that look. I love when people actually use the amazing material out there to understand what the sides were all about. That's why my favorite series of videos on Star Wars is the CinemaWins on the first 6 movies. He also does an amazing job understanding what context clues are being given as to why things went wrong.
could you analize the rest of the episodes'
brilliant!
that old fart mastered the dark way.
IT'S THE WARS!
If there as a slider with "anime" at one end and "Star Wars" at the other, I feel like this is the most Star Wars story in the anthology. Funny since Twins would be the most anime of the bunch and made by the same studio.
More Star Wars videos please 👍🏾
Masterful SW Short. Equally masterful deep dive/video! You are an absolute treasure, and great human being. Thank you, and the rest of the Bonsai Pop team!
Thank you for this vid. This short hit on something I'd let go a while back. I used to love Star Wars, reading the expanded universe books, including the Young Jedi Knights series. The big character, weapon, and art books helped make that universe real. The prequels did not match the vision I had developed in my mind from the books and comics, taking a different tone, aesthetic, and characterizations.
Similarly while the Clone Wars (Tartovsky version included) were cool, they didn't quite hit the same tone.
This...this makes me feel like it hits a buried sensibility lost so long ago.
I am heartened to see the Jedi again and that old Star Wars spark.
Then again, what do I know? Im going off of the aesthetics and your descriptions. :D
Seriously, that pic at 4:36? Want that as a damn wallpaper.
I thought the twins was among the weakest in Visions, but the elder really got me invested in its story. No one can top Lop and Ocho, though!
L&O was awesome.
the strength of your research sets you above most. I remain an avid viewer.
we have the same opinion on the disney SW. I read the Thrawn trilogy. aah the 90s and bookstores...
That fight is easily my favorite light saber fight
Disney didnt fabricate a timeline they simply expanded upon the ACTUAL canon.
The original EU was never canon george lucas has said that for DECADES
