Omg! Can't believe you guys are not only in my old hood but in a building that I spent my childhood in. Fun fact: I grew up on the next block, Linden St. In the 80s, this building used to be a preschool and I went there as a child. My mom started her career as a teacher in that building and still works for the company, Bushwick United Head Start. They still have numerous locations in Brooklyn.

Because the downstairs room lacks an egress window (that barred window apparently doesn't comply) it's considered unsafe as a bedroom and you should not have repeatedly called it a bedroom. The main floor is quite cramped and the renovations look cheap.

Obviously, they made the point that it is not a legal bedroom, because we are all aware of that fact! And Cash does the "use it as a bedroom" thing every opportunity that arises! That's a fact of life in NYC! I'm NOT saying it's right! But MOST as apartments do this if they can because of the astronomically high rent costs! But, I'm just saying, he makes both points...he's not hiding anything...

I grew up nearby in BedStuy, and my cousins lived in Bushwick. The area was a relatively wealthy area due to the numerous breweries located there and in Williamsburg. Many of the beer barons and managers built some of the most beautiful homes and mini mansions in Brooklyn. Bushwick Avenue had fancy cocktail lounges and night clubs. Broadway had all the shops and stores. However, in the 60’s, to due competition the local breweries started closing in NYC. White flight, plus the Navy Yard’s decline caused the neighborhood to rundown. Then the blackout and riot in the during the summer of ‘76 nearly destroyed all of Broadway. The area became really rough and sketchy. Abandoned houses were looted for copper, aluminum, stained glass and any of value. Many were set ablaze in order to collect the insurance money. Local residents had to band together to board up the windows and door fronts in order to keep them from becoming drug dens. But I’m glad to see the area is coming back and people are renovating many of wonderful homes.

I bet when it was a single family mansion the interior was gorgeous since it belonged to a lumber magnate. It's a shame the architect didn't try to keep some of the original details. Looks like it was a total gut job, especially if there was an addition added & there's at least 20 apartments in there. That kitchen on a wall was ridiculous with practically no counter space or microwave. You'd need a rolling island for sure. The bedroom could only accommodate a twin size or if you're lucky a full size bed. Might as well have made it into a closet seriously. Not worth the $$$ imo.

I would totally make that an eat in kitchen with an island and a breakfast nook and the downstairs would be my living room - why split the rent? just take the whole place LOL

One thing about NY developers they don’t care about character, history, nostalgia, culture or anything like this. It’s all about money. They don’t care about preserving anything. You should see how they chop up old brownstones.

Nice old building which probably was a mansion at one time. The reno looks okay, with a decent kitchen and an eating nook, and pretty sizable 1.5 bathrooms, and that large room downstairs for a living room. Bedroom is quite small but doable. My real complaint is that the reno took the life and charm out of that lovely old building, and that's a shame.

LOVE the building! GAWD..hate it when they leave the refrigerator door opening on the WRONG side.....is there a LOT of Dyslexia in NYC or what!? Did they gut this building & redo it ....doesn't look right. Interior sucks

Lol, Cash disses Domino's, but not Little Caesars; the fake pizza of all pizzas (I still eat it tho)! 😅
This place is a tricky setup if you use it as a 2BR.

Your title is very misleading. The cost isn’t $1,500. It’s $3,000. And you’re not renting out the entire Mansion. In fact, it’s not a mansion at all. It’s just a small apartment within what USED TO BE a Mansion. A Mansion isn’t a Mansion once it’s been divided up into separate apartments. Then it becomes an apartment building. And it’s got tiny apartments at that. I can’t believe how damned small the main floor living area is. The kitchen is a joke. It’s good for making sandwiches, or heating up canned foods, but they didn’t include a spot to place a microwave, so that’s going to end up taking extra space in an already space limited apartment. In here, every square foot of space counts. All this for a measly $3,000? That’s just crazy. Someone’s making out, but it’s certainly NOT the renter. My monthly rent, at a whopping $0.00, is a much better deal. Especially considering that I’ve got 1800 square feet, which consists of 2 bedrooms/2 full baths, a den, a large family room, a formal dinning room, a large kitchen, a separate laundry room, and a huge screened in lanai (complete with jacuzzi), all on a private lot in a gated subdivision, three blocks from the beaches in beautiful Saint Augustine, Florida…all for ZERO dollars a month. If I include my required monthly expenses, it goes up to about $750 a month. That includes electric, water, trash pickup, satellite television, high speed internet service, landline phone, AND cellphone. Pets allowed. And there’s plenty of room for pets. Additionally, it includes the use of a fishing pier on the Intercoastal Waterway.
Wow…are you ever getting ripped off.
