I also finally got an SGI octane for free :) Sadly mine is very low end. Only one CPU @ 195MHz, 128MB RAM and an Si GPU. But even tough it is fairly low in specs it is very impressive what that machine can do graphics wise :) Would love to upgrade it at some point, if those parts wouldn't be so damn expensive. And mine also needs a BD sicker xD
Never knew that was adjustable there. My fully loaded octane 2 ramps up the fans when it starts to boot, I wonder if this option is only user set or can be triggered by certain hardware configurations.

Running a gfx card in the lower right hand slot (slot D) will trigger it. I believe having a cardcage also triggers it.
I was expecting this thing to be louder.
I have an indy and can say no computer besides Apple's early colored Power Macintosh desktops are cooler than any SGI (except the Personal Iris.)
Mine is loud like this by default, how to make it quiet? Fastfan=0 ?
Ok, lol I tried it, my loud mode was in fact fastfan off :D Now I must switch it off... activated it's loud as ....unbearable
