I’m 76 years old and now envy your lack of clutter and minimalist approach to things. I need to get my shit together and lighten my load before my kids get stuck with it.
My full size mattress is about twenty years old, I bought it at a store where they make their own. After ten years, put a memory foam pad on it. A good mattress lasts forever! Also, the salesman made sure I bought their box spring as well, he said it was the best box spring ever. He wasn't upselling me, it was very good advice!
@AccordingtoNicole If I may - I also go heavy on the greys and neutrals for paint/furniture. Adding color via artwork is an excellent way to add contrast. Thrift stores can be a good source of cheap originals btw.
Very nicely done. A ceiling fan would be functional and energy-efficient, so maybe consider it instead of just a light fixture. Whatever you decide, good luck.
Recently I've been thinking about ceiling fans being a burden as a landlord so a recent remodel I took out the ceiling fans that were droopy instead of replacing them I put up a nice LED then I bought $45 wall fans that do the same thing as a ceiling fan but after a year or two and they start looking dingy I can toss them out and easily replace them with a fresh fan for a lot cheaper Tell me what you think
4:03 i dont blame you! My dad, however, ran a painting company when my sister and i were growing up. Still blows my mind how now, in his 50s with a prosthetic eye (he had since he was a kid), he still paints the straightest, cleanest lines.
I painted a dark accent wall in my bedroom and I also taped the ceiling. I’m a professional artist and will assure you that you did yourself a huge favor there! BTW: LOVE The furniture you chose 🎉
I love all your videos. You don't sugar coat anything, and I love that about you. You are really pleasant to listen to, especially with the occasional f bombs. All your videos have content that I am enjoying. Thanks for sharing.
I work at a long term care and I literally realized that this senior resident doesn’t have a lot of stuff with them. As long as they are feed, they got a bed, clean water and people to talk to. It was enough for them. And going along with minimalist lifestyle you don’t need a lot to live
1: you could talk to caroline winkler about decorating. caroline is on youtube. 2: i would suggest a 3-light ceiling fan. a ceiling fan so that you can push the warmer air downward. i have heard that hunter is a good brand. 3: i would suggest some kind of themed rug. like a beach theme, mountain theme,, sunrise/sunset theme etc. but not anything tacky obviously.
I've painted A LOT of rooms over the years and I always tape EVERYTHING. Call me a perfectionist, but when I see a sloppy jagged line where the wall meets the ceiling at someone's house, I WANT TO SCREAM and start repainting for them! FrogTape is the best invention to keep me from losing my mind (waaay better than standard green painter's tape). Great video BTW and the room is terrific!
In terms of art, something abstract would look great on that dark wall in the bedroom. I would go for something that includes some red or orange to give a little warmth and contrast to all the grey. I like the dresser.
My sister convinced me to make over most of my house. It was very plain Jane and drab. I don’t have a decorator’s eye so I went with her suggestions and of course it looked much better and felt more like a home. One surprising improvement was that my house has much better acoustics. I loved your paint schemes in your bedroom.
I love it. Looks very nice and I think you made the right choice with the upholstered bed frame. Sometimes buying furniture sets end up looking too matchy-matchy. As for your light above your bed...have you thought of putting in a ceiling fan with a light? Might be a good choice since you're on the upper level and heat rises. A good way to circulate the air. I also think your window is craving some kind of dark grey, black-out drapes, etc. Nice job though!
Your videos are superb. Exceptionally organized, clear explanations. Fun, energetic, pleasant demeanor. Worth watching because one learns something worth learning. I just enjoy them. Even the commercial. I generally hate them. Many thanks.
It is your house! “Decorate” the way you want. I would love for my bedroom to look like a hotel room. Minimal, classy, great quality pieces with amazing bedding! Ahhhhhh Levi might not be the best “helper”, however he sure is adorable! 💖💖💖
hahaha "don't worry, you're not invited" classic! Part of the way I earn a living is doing home renovations, sheet rock, painting, wood work etc. I like seeing what people do with a room or space even if it is nothing like I would do. nice job and a good lesson on budgeting for a project.
As a person who works in a very cluttered place ( more than that in a place with human crowds and endless noise) i feel so relaxed and quiet looking at your bare and empty house:). My apartment is similar to it and i am so happy finding myself in these minimalistic surroundings.
I like the upholstered bed frames, so that when you bang your shins on them, it doesn't do quite as much damage, and similarly, the upholstered headboard so that it doesn't hurt you when you knock your knuckles on it. I think that spending some money on a bed, not trying to be as frugal as possible, is a great idea, because we spend soo much of our time in bed.
You did a great job Nicole. I think you can be minimalist and still find ways to make things look good, it’s very well possible. Although my new dresser is smaller than the one I owned for 4 years, I like the way things turned out. While one part was a downgrade in terms of less room for bigger clothing I did get an upgrade with more room for smaller clothing and other items while also gaining more space for gaming consoles when I complete my PlayStation console collection. The dresser I got comes with an LED light, 2 outlets, 2 USB ports, and one USB-C port. All of this I bought for $140 off of Amazon.
I love this content, great taste while still maintaining a minimal aesthetic, one thing you could add is curtains that go all the way to the floor to also make the window look bigger,
For the rug, I would use some free shaped, not rectangular, like maybe cowhide from IKEA. Sometimes, but rare, they have it in black and white. Or artificial, sometimes Costco or Whole Market have them.
So much better! I know you love grey and simplicity, but I would be tempted to add in just one or two colours via a rug, wall art, bed throw and cushion.
--I taped the ceiling but before that, I taped the walls and painted the ceiling. --I have been doing this soft of stuff for a while and one coat never quite gets it even when not making a large color change. --Dressers are a place where buying quality is worth it. My dresser is older than you are and still looks new. --When changing lighting, putting in a dimmer is a good idea. Dimmable LED bulbs are a nice thing, The WIFi bulbs come with a remote you always lose or an APP that needs you to use you phone. A dinner in place of the switch is always where it needs to be.
I keep things simple and uncluttered as much as possible in order to cut down on dust collecting on stuff and to be able to clean very easily and very quickly.
Your room looks awesome 👏 The dark grey looks rich and sophisticated :) The wood dressers add a nice contrast and warmth. Good job! It feels nice to wake up in a bedroom that you love :)
Looks so good, Nicole! Awesome job. Would love to see more “design” style videos. It’s fun listening to how you make decisions along the way. Also, props to you for creating the videos YOU want to create. We’re here for it all :)
Aesthetically your place looks like what someone created while doing Blender tutorial, but I love to see people that have neat and tidy spaces and that in itself is cool. The makeover is an improvement, I like the symmetry of the side tables and lamps.
Almost choked on my coffee when you said your bedroom was giving "mental hosptial" vibes. Funny! I like this type of video very much, always fun to see other minimalists working on a space. My husband is not a minimalist, and now I am stuck with a lot of the knick-knacky stuff we bought years ago. 😒
FAB makeover! 🙌👏👏 (And I love your main level too, btw.) Re: the single lightbulb - I assume there wasn’t a dimmer switch, and so this was the next best way to reduce the light intensity. I much prefer low lit rooms - especially bedrooms - so I get the single lightbulb approach. 😄. Fun video - thanks! ❤️
Pam here….our bedroom unusually large odd size and no rug worked. We went to a carpet store and found a REMNANT and they cut it to the size we needed and then they used a machine to finish the raw edges. OMG we got such a great deal! The remnants were on clearance and the edging was priced so much per linear foot. Could never have found a premad rug for our space that would have worked.
Nicely done, Nicole. I enjoyed this video because it reminds me of how I have made changes in my own house. I've done 90% of the work myself and yes, it's tiring but so satisfying. Shopping is the frustrating part!
Admire your Minimalist Lifestyle and your clutter free environment. I, Unfortunately am a hoarder - mostly accumulated useless junk. Oooooh, however, one big exception............my collection of books which I cherish. Both the ones I've read and intend to eventually read. Knowledge is Power. Enjoy your day. Love your posts. ❤❤❤❤.
I don't have a couch or a dinner table. Don't use them. I sit on the rug with my cat and I eat dinner in my bathtub (yes, for real. While watching RUclips). But I have a lot of furniture in my bedroom😊 And you could have totally got $10 on Marketplace for that small dresser.
Nice makeover, Nicole. I especially like the headboard. I needed light fixtures and didn't like anything I was seeing in the stores. I ended up purchasing a fixture from Facebook marketplace and I am very pleased with it.
14:06 - please be EXTRA-careful, when working with wires. Buy live wire detector, and check it EVERY time before you touch something around. Work in gloves, turn off switch AND breaker. Remember, that sometimes switches don't cut live wire(bс idiots did them), but neutral one and your "off" wires are actully live and dangerous!
Looks great. You definitely made the right choice with the bed frame. I think the wooden one would have been too matchy matchy. We have a wooden headboard and I'm desperate for an upholstered one.
Cobalt blue woven or very low pile rug, in wool if possible. Since you like blue (tissue box & dog bed) or spring green, coordinates with plants but is bright and contrasts well with grays and wood tones. My advice is take pictures of the floor, dresser, and bed and a color swatch of your paint and take these when looking for a rug. You can hold them up to the rug to see if it looks good with it. You could also go look at carpet and buy a piece with the color and texture you like and have it bound.
I like how deliberate and sensible you are with your purchases.(It looks beautiful!) You’re like the anti-influencer of binge, purge, binge, etc. buying cycle I see on RUclips.
Love it. Thanks for sharing!! I hate shopping now days because the quality of stuff sucks. For me, I always buy steel frame platform beds because I never have to worry about slats breaking. I can always change out the headboard if I want something new and they are around $100 or so dollars. I love my Helix mattress too. Best purchase for my room.
Still mad about the wheels not staying white but I will concede that the black looks better with the grille and mirrors that came with it. Nicely done! 🙏🏽
My room is very much like yours but I added a tapestry that I like to look at before I go to bed. I know that's silly and I know it's simple but I just like it like that. If I add anything else to that room it just adds clutter and anxiety.

Look..... at least you bought some woodgrain coloured stuff, 🤣
Nice one guy raphael, bit of nice colourful art, couple of plants and you'll be set.
👍🏻
Seriously live your UNCLUTTETED home ,wish more people would have that rather than CLUTTERED FILLED .
lmaooo @ "well dont worry, youre not invited" love it
I’m 76 years old and now envy your lack of clutter and minimalist approach to things. I need to get my shit together and lighten my load before my kids get stuck with it.
I’m right there with you, I’m 72. I have down sized to a queen. A good nights sleep is top on my list.
The struggle is real! 69 here. Too much stuff!!
I'm 27 almost 28 and already realized I got too much sh*t

haha my mom was the queen of accumulators and she passed away in 2020. we're still going through her stuff and will be for a few more years
This bit&h stole my hairstyle LOL!
💁🏼♀️
I almost didn't watch this one, but that one comment made me literally laugh out loud. Worth.
LOL "don't worry, you're not invited" 🤣 You're hilarious and I love your videos!
HOME DECOR CONTENT FROM NICOLE? I’m never leaving. 💫
Your videos are the opposite of click bait, and the smooth calm delivery is an island of pleasant in a sea of frenetic yelling.
- very well put.
@AccordingtoNicole If I may - I also go heavy on the greys and neutrals for paint/furniture. Adding color via artwork is an excellent way to add contrast. Thrift stores can be a good source of cheap originals btw.

Tell me what you think
Simple is always best. I prefer timeless over trend any day.
You don't need a lot of stuff. It just makes cleaning more difficult and provides more places for clutter to accumulate.
- totally agree. Be the diametrical opposite of the hoarders.
4:03 i dont blame you! My dad, however, ran a painting company when my sister and i were growing up. Still blows my mind how now, in his 50s with a prosthetic eye (he had since he was a kid), he still paints the straightest, cleanest lines.
This was so fun to watch! The “well dont worry, you’re not invited” comment had me cackling 😂
Truly enjoyed your makeover room. It’s you
Thanks! I agree
I painted a dark accent wall in my bedroom and I also taped the ceiling. I’m a professional artist and will assure you that you did yourself a huge favor there! BTW: LOVE The furniture you chose 🎉

I like how neat and clean your place looks. Especially after watching an episode of “Hoarders” today.
I think your house is beautiful!
Really love this kind of content from you. I also love how you are a “just get it done “ type of chick. Rock on!
I work at a long term care and I literally realized that this senior resident doesn’t have a lot of stuff with them. As long as they are feed, they got a bed, clean water and people to talk to. It was enough for them. And going along with minimalist lifestyle you don’t need a lot to live

And perhaps some Ansel Adams on the light wall.
I would suggest looking on the internet for abstracts, usually good prices from amateurs, and way above store quality crap.
Idea for wall over the sofa: Framed print of your pup!
Or even a painting of him! Thats such an amazing idea ❤
Yes! A commissioned portrait of Levi!! @@bree8150

Love these choices! For a rug, get a low pile. It wont wreck your robot vacuum.

Anyone else love Levi's silent comment on all the disruption? Sooo cute! ( ooh he would hate being called that!)
This was a fun video.. Enjoyed it
I love the makeover. Well done. It's so calming, and the clean lines are beautiful.
Your bedroom looks so nice. You did an amazing job putting everything together and that mattress looks so comfy.
It soooo comfy. I’m never waking up again
Hi Nicole !! I am a minimalist too and I love your bedroom. I love your sense of humor.
You are one of my favorite RUclipsrs.
❤❤❤
I always live in a space for a while, and then slowly start to decorate and furnish.
After that, I like to let the owners know I'm there.

Also, I shouted GREY when you said "guess the headboard colour" 😂
Wayfair has gorgeous rugs. Great prices too!👍
I think this was one of the nicer videos I have seen in some time. Thank you for the nice time. 🙂

7:16: I forget your dog's name, but he's being that quintessential type of dog: an in-the-way-dog.
Your room looks awesome 👏
The dark grey looks rich and sophisticated :)
The wood dressers add a nice contrast and warmth.

Your new bedroom looks really good; it’s very attractive. I like what you did. Nice job. 🎉
3:00 Immediately thought you were gonna say your dog.
That new furniture and decor looks amazing!!! Love it 😍
I love the dresser and night stands.
Don’t worry about criticism. You are the one living there. You know what you can afford. Do the way you want. I would be happy just to have a house.
Thank you
That cow pic with your hair cracked me
up 😂
Hahaha same!!!😂❤

I love your finance videos, but this video was amazing! Such a different vibe from your normal videos. I loved it, keep them coming.😊
Between your music and tv references and your humour, I would watch whatever you post lol
My house is basic and bare and I love it.. 😊❤
It looks fantastic and still has a minimalist vibe : )
Looks great. You definitely made the right choice with the bed frame. I think the wooden one would have been too matchy matchy. We have a wooden headboard and I'm desperate for an upholstered one.
Awesome room makeover! Looks so calming & clean I love it!
As an art work maybe look at Andrew Wyeth's painting
" Master Bedroom " ( dog asleep on bed )??
I have had mine for a year and I still love my Helix. Update us in a year from now. ❤ And Nicole, the bedroom makeover is fantastic 👌

You’ve made a video that could have been hugely boring, very interesting indeed. Enjoyed it immensely.!
BIG improvement. Thanks for sharing.
Personal finance and interior design are two of my main interests so please carry on!
I love the minimalist look!
You're living a wonderful Life🎉.
I like how deliberate and sensible you are with your purchases.(It looks beautiful!) You’re like the anti-influencer of binge, purge, binge, etc. buying cycle I see on RUclips.
Thanks. Here’s my buzz breakdown: start with +1564, follow with 243, and finish strong at
8485. !!!
I get the masking tape out aswell still end up with it everywhere lol then baby wipes to the rescue. Lovely room. Take care x
Nice interior ! Don't feel bad. You're using your money wisely.
Looks good so far. Love the dresser! I'd add a pop of color with art on the wall and in the rug you choose. Enjoyable video, for sure!
0:19 GIANT photo of Levi!
Enjoyed the video , it’s always satisfying to do this little projects . Nice job
Dog at 15:29: Was hoping for some vivid colours, but same booooring greyscale colors as usual 😂
But also lmfao that your pajamas look exactly like your day time clothes. I freakin adore you lol
Love love your updated bedroom!
Its looks really nice..i like your lamps ..
It looks pretty neat! looks great.
Ohhhhh. You went with the fancy Frog Tape.
Happy Thanksgiving Nicole. Bedroom looks great!
That snowball effect you are talking about...aka " the Diderot effect" gets me everytime
My room is very much like yours but I added a tapestry that I like to look at before I go to bed. I know that's silly and I know it's simple but I just like it like that. If I add anything else to that room it just adds clutter and anxiety.
If those walls could talk!!!!♥️
I think it looks great!
