I learned 4 Things
Electronics , Agriculture , Home Economics and Information Technology
This is how games taught us , not violence
Electrical engineer here and I've got to say it amazes me more and more that Minecraft has become such a great educational tool.
The mods make learning fun and I hope to see future students get their inspiration from this and build amazing applications and inventions both in the game and in real life :)
Thank you very much for this video Direwolf20 and mod author PowerCrystals!
By the way... PRC sounds a lot like PLC... and a PLC computer would be something awesome to see as a mod! Regards
Last semester of Electrical engineering in Uni here, Minecraft's what got me into this field and i owe a lot to it. My accumulated knowledge from all these mods/programs is what made it so easy for the first 2 years, ofc stuff gets a bit more complicated later on but it was a great foundation for most of my lectures.
Thank you for taking the time out to explain these, really appreciate it!
I love how dire is explaining the whole rednet thingy, and im like, well, that circuit i can make with redstone, that one too, that one too, its basicly redpower logic stuff
Why is it that minecraft has taught me trigonometry, binary, and quantum principles better than my high school teachers?
It's all a matter of environment. Typically high school is boring, and often unintuitive on certain aspects. Here, in Minecraft, on the other hand, you see the effects of the lessons you had to gather to make sense of any projects you want to complete. Adds practical value, stuff that merely tests will never even hope to reach.
Avenger Star then instead of sending chidden to school, we should just let them play minecraft all day :)
GusCraft460
That's one way to look at things.
Avenger Star Whoo!
Monckx That was an incorrect, unprovoked, rude statement. How do I talk like an idiot? And I don't think that you heard me talking because this is a textual comment and not an audio recording.
Welcome back, SethBling here, today i built a time machine in minecraft using the PRC from Minefactory. It can change ingame- and real life time and it has a tetris game built in. :)
Thanks DW, great mod and spotlight as always.
Also very good to here you will be including this in your pack in the future.
4:51 "How cool is that?"
I'll tell you, as soon as the good doctors manage to reattach my frostbitten fingers.
Yeah, it is THAT cool.
I gotta say, I wasn't really sold on this whole MineFactory mod at first; Most of the blocks seemed like "Yeah, that's nifty, but there are so many other mods that do that exact same thing & better". But after seeing this, I'm totally sold. Between this stuff, the conveyor belts & the fertilizer from sewage, this looks like a pretty darn cool pack that oughta fill quite a few niches.
He is already on ForgeCraft where he has access to all development builds of the mod. Both servers are awesome but it is cool that Direwolf can show off some of the new mod features.
"Now if I haven't blown your mind yet"
I had blown my own mind like 10 minutes previous when I started looking through the list thinking of possibilities
The creator of this mod is a glorious man... Not only does he add new functionality, he also kinda recreates redpower in a whole new way. Now he just needs marble and basalt
I'm glad that rednet cabling and controllers are getting the attention they deserve. Between MFR, Buildcraft improvements, and the upcoming API I heard that Chickenbones was making for Wireless Redstone, we'll be to a point where RedPower is mostly irrelevant. Immibis will hopefully be able to integrate his microblocks mod to work with Chickenbones' code and vice versa to create a universal way to hide wires and things.
My friend is a color blind and he loved this mod, so thanks for the color blind mode.
I have completely replaced all of my Redpower2, Redlogic, and Project Red needs with the Rednet system. I love this entire mod. Can't wait to see what else Power Crystals does next.
You can craft blackstone and whitestone with cobble/bricks/smoothstone around an ink sac or sugar to make basalt/marble replacements.
There's also another mod called Artifice (you can search for it on the technicpack wiki) that adds marble/basalt equivalents, with amazing connected texture implementations in its paver/antipaver blocks that allow you to basically create whatever patterns you want.
Remember that you can use the dye items to change the cables to a specific color and the signal reader device outputs the colors name as well.
Having made music for a couple of years and messing around with synths, i recognised a lot of the same stuff in this mod as in designing sounds. This is basically setting up LFOs (low frequency oscillators). And as such, i can see a lot of potential for this mod. I have a few ideas in mind already, and I am definitely looking forward to trying it out.
Someone is going to imagine rebuilding an LC-3 with this technology!
What a nightmare, headache, and joy this will be.
This really explained this part of the mod for me and now i can finaly use this for my dunguons
Niiiiiice, so the RedNet Meter is basically a tool for "troubleshooting" or "debugging" your network of RedNet Cables. You haven't blown my mind, in fact, this is only fascinating the Computer Programmer part of me!
The best thing about the PRC is that it looks really awesome
Will the prof and the rednet wire colours interact with the redpower bundled cable, coloured cables and computers?
This is a good replacement for RP2. Will be using this a lot in my private 1.5.2 Mod pack. I missed RP2 so much but now I know about this I will be using it. Thanks Dire for the Spotlight
Amazing stuff, but totally confused... what would you use this for? I only ask because I'm still learning modded minecraft.
it saves a lot of space in big redstone builds
Typically, large automated complexes require lots of redstone to control. RedNet helps you compact that redstone into, at best, a single wire that could very well be controlled by a single computer.
*"Amazing stuff, but totally confused... what would you use this for?"*
What do you use electronics are computers for in real life dumbass?
Monckx 1) you are a hater and a troll.
2) playing Minecraft, duh.
Tripwire emits a redstone signal when triggered, so yes, it should. It should also work with pressure plates, redstone torches, buttons, trapped chests etc. Dire used levers just to make it easier to see what was going on.
This is really good. dire, you should tell Slowpoke that we don't really need to wait for Redpower 2 to be constantly updating to update the versions because Minecraft Reloaded really can be used instead. And then when Eloraam is ready to update it, he can update the modpack. :D
In fact, I believe a recent patch made it compatible with computer craft, where CC is now able to use the RedNet wires for interactions.
From what I can tell, wiring in houses are wired up differently. If you have 2 inputs, having them both on or off will cause the light to come on, but having them opposite will not do anything. I have first-hand experience with this, as some of the lights in my house are wired in this way, and my father and his friend work with electrical stuff.
I could find the noteblock thing useful. Nice diatonic scale there with the triangle wave.
I'd love to see a score on the librarian that shows the notes as they're played.
my engineering teacher got nothing on dire, lol he's so good at explaining things
Now this is fascinating, this introduces the raw form of Variables, where you actually have to physically BUILD it in order to make the Variable. I wonder if this would make it possible to build a Redstone based Matrix, where it uses a series of different/similar variables for complicated operations.
I have installed MFR to the DW20 pack, yet for some reason, there are no rednet cables. I have installed MFR, Powercrystals core, and power converters, am I missing somthing?
Considering that transistors are analogue and can be used as amplifiers, can send signals 'backwards' under certain conditions and need to have voltage levels carefully balanced if you want them to function as a passthrough (which is what you seem to be assuming they function as), I'll stick with the simplified and useful logic gates, thanks.
What? Redstone levels were always there Dire, the ability to take advantage of the different levels is what was implemented.
Even though it probably couldn't replace redpower, the rednet programmer could probably be used for making something VERY compact that would be pretty big. Also the grossness could be resolved using vanilla redstone mechanics, you would have to put a block in front of the cable and force the wire to connect to it, it would take power from the block.
"Now we are going to jump into..." (jumps) XD
I usually slap the levers/buttons right on the cables, it looks much better I think its designed to be done like that as you can see the colors fully around the levers on the interface pad.
Sethbling would fall in love with the rednet system. He wouldn't mind using a mod (since he's used computercraft before).
This is awesome. How did i not know about this until now? This replaces just about the last thing i'm gonna sorely miss from redpower.
I don't know why your comment was downvoted, I have to agree. Redpower simply looks better. It doesn't have ugly pads where it connects to levers, and, in fact, can be completely invisible if you set it up correctly. Maybe if it were compatible with some sort of microblock system it would be better.
This is so much better than the jacketed wires from redpower 2.
I miss redpower so much.
Dire, we've always had different levels of Redstone frequency. It just hasn't mattered until now.
The cabling's great and all, but can we get concealers for it like covers or facades?
Weird, does anyone else go on your account, or do you share a computer and it auto signs in to your account? I'm not sure if the tag system is still in effect or if it was removed in one of youtubes many updates. The tag system was basically this, you put a bunch of keywords that are related to the content/ subject of your video for search purposes, and videos with similar tags would show up on the side.
It might be a proper sine wave, just remember that it only has 16 levels so you have to assume the sine wave is being sampled, and that the period Dire had was very short, hence it looking more like a triangle wave.
I need help in programing the timer to be on 5 seconds , but OFF for 10 seconds, then on 5 seconds and so on. How do I do that???
by placing torches on the cabling, It's possible to make circuts very compact. I was able to make an and gate (without the logic controller, just vanilla torches) in only a 2x2x2 space as opposed to a 2x3x2. My only complaint is that it's rather dificult to make nor gates because it's imposible to transfer a signal to another color without repeaters
I find it far easier to understand spacial/pysical problems, so redpower is hence easier to use and just as powerful.
is this version coming to FTB Ulimate? i have some items like the farms but not things like rednet cables etc?
sethbling + dw20 = ingame minecraft god
All i hear is "Programmable Redneck Controller"
Cadde same!!!!! 😂😂😂😂
So have any of the Top Spergs turned this stuff into a working synthesizer yet?
Is there a way to monitor the liquid in a tank using redstone signals? Like outputting a strength of 15 if full? Got some cool ideas of a control room involving rednet controllers, liquid storage and nuclear IC2 power generation! Also that PRC block must have taken him some time to program!
which mod caused the excess leather? i am having a similar issue with grinders plus soulshards, excess items not being picked up by the grinders.
This is probably a noon question... But.
Would this react to a tripwire circuit? Like for an alarm type set up?
How did you get the 32x default texture for the omniwrench to work with the 16x default textures dire?
i know, and thats why i also mentioned redpower, i also love them, but more for compactness and speed than for other stuff
You owe me a new mind Dire. You blew mine.
Except that their forums still state that they weren't publicly releasing a 1.5 modpack because people still want RedPower 2, and that's why they're keeping the public release on 1.4.7. They aren't necessarily "waiting on RedPower 2," but they're also not updating to 1.5 without it for the public release, so technically, yes, they still are.
I like how Dire jumped when he said jump into this
I agree to some extent. I do like that it's easier to change on the fly, but it's less intuitive to me because bundled cabling wraps everything up and you can set up individual wires, while this only has the ability to change color for things it's attached to, not the wire itself.
And that logic system is another flaw to me. I like having my gates separate, not having to craft that one block over and over and over for every single part of the circuit. That seems like a waste of resources.
The Counter, Delay, Equals, Greater/Less than, Greater/Less than or Equal, Maximum and Minimum all seem to be fields that are understood by a programmer. I could easily learn most of the functions of the Programmable RedNet Controller without needing to read the (in-game) manual. The Gates, however, would take me a little bit to figure out before I can really get a hang of it.
Yeah, an LFO was the first thing which came to my mind when I first saw that black oscilloscope :)
Now the only thing missing is some sound assigned to the redstone pulses, and we have a synth :D
Immibis Microblocks will get you microblocks without redpower, and it allows you to cut up mod blocks and run mod cables through them as well- imagine RP2 microblocks, but you can use blocks from other mods with them, and you could run IC2 wires or BC pipes or other mod cables through them instead of just RP2 stuff.
Not really interested in the mod... except one thing from it... the glowstone bricks. I think this mod added liked 23 child mods. That's insane. Had enough mods already. Not saying it doesn't add some nifty stuff, the problem is most of the things it adds you already get from other mods.
wow the rednet stuff is sooo compicated i feel it should be a mod of its own
Dire, there's colorblind support for the controller but how is this implemented on the cables?
theres a mod in the works that just adds frames and its focused modding there for better care is taken of it. and it can attach to any block and move it.
Direwolf20, can you upload your videos in another place? RUclips is becoming slow for many people even though we have good connections enough to watch in HD without interruption
A suggestion for the PRC is that it shows you a truth table while you're configuring it.
I suppose I didn't quite make myself clear on the logic system (ran out of characters). What I meant was that I can craft one logic block, and then set up all of my logic stuff on ONE circuit. Admittedly, there are some downsides (RP is much better at building circuits that are far apart/simpler), and I think that I do prefer RP (when I disagreed with you, I meant it was a decent replacement). I think that this system can/should replace RP until it updates. +, why changed wire colors good?
Remember how you made these contraptions that were very complex yet completed a very simple task? I'd imagine you using the PRC to do just that, only on a more epic scale.
Not if you wanted the buttons to have to be pressed in a specific order. And as you noted, the buttons only stay on briefly, so you'd have to hit them really fast. If you wanted to do it like a keypad you might see in the real world, you could start using latches.
currently the only thing that comes to mind is xy tanks. but they output either 15 or zero. I suppose you could modify that to output the correct signal with some fancy redstone work.
I am blown away.
I love the RP2 tubes/pipes too.
People just aren't taking RedPower for granted anymore. Considering Eloraam drops off the face of the internet for months at a time, people want alternatives for when Minecraft moves on without her.
rp alloy wires can transmit for 255 blocks before needing repeater. and if you are going that far just use wireless redstone. but still I love this concept
Now we don't need Online electronic lessons anymore, because we can learn it in MINECRAFT!
I used to run a vanilla server on my old PC since I don't use it for anything else, but it can't handle modded servers. I just run it locally on my main computer. I've got a 30 Mb/s connection, so it's enough for myself and up to four friends to screw around on together. I'll eventually rent a server, but I don't have the money currently as I'm still unemployed.
Couldnt u make a rednet controller output to another rednet controller, which does some other 6 things when It gets a redstone signal
Is there anyway right now to change the historian to output numbers instead?
Yes, if you didn't mind taking two blocks of space instead of upgrading one. And honestly, I'm struggling to think of many practical applications that require more than 6 circuits.
The programmable rednet controller is basically the equalvalent of the IRL 555 IC
So many reds tone systems :D makes me so happy
I believe you said the redstone frequencies, or "strength", was added in the latest minecraft update? Just one correction. minecraft 1.5 added comparators which allowed you to use comparators with varying outputs based on "frequency strength". Otherwise, good review!
Someone on forgecraft is apparently working on a replacement for frames. It's a part of a conversation on one of Dire's videos. Recent season.
Hmm can you make the rednote swift instrument??
"Cobblestone block, no such luck. M'kay?" -direwolf20, 2013
than k for the EE shout out we love you dire
I have... But one of the best parts of redpower was the redstone aspect, timers, red alloy wire, and all of that. In my opinion, that was much more useful than frames
Could those blocks (cables) be moved by RP frames?
Not quite what he meant. While the Ender Chest mod is about as close as it gets to that functionality without being too overpowered, he meant the save/load function you have in TMI/NEI.
I like it, but I think the GUI could use some work, maybe pictures or diagrams for all the different gates with the colors and variables in those positions?
PRC: Excellent if you understand electronic logic (I do, to a degree) and don't want to bother with Lua. Combined WITH ComputerCraft? Mind = BLOWN
You make your own server? I tried that once, and our computer/internet connection can't handle it. Do you rent, or is your computer/internet good enough?
hey dire when is ars magica going to be in ftb
Well, you could force connect the pads to blocks, and power the blocks giving the system the signal indirectly.
Not exactly... but close. Tthis is a nice Programable Logic Controller for industrialcraft or thermal expansion factories, and close-ish to how this things works in real life. I can see a lot of cool stuff coming from this the very second it gets into Feed The Beast.
