Part 4: • Smooth B on Mister Cee...
Part 1: • Smooth B on Hooking Up...
--------
In this clip, Smooth B speaks about Nice & Smooth's debut album "Funky for You" being big, but their follow up, "Ain't a Damn Thing Changed," being much bigger. He went on to speak about being one of the first hip-hop acts to do a Spanish version of a song with "Hip-Hop Junkies." Smooth B also spoke about sampling Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" on "Sometimes I Rhyme Slow," and he added that Chapman took most of the publishing. He then added that both Prince and Elton John gave them much more fair deals with a 50/50 split. Развлечения

@Damien Jones they DID .....didn't you hear him?
Shout out to Prince for letting Nice & Smooth live because he turned down many people who wanted to sample him.

@@thelegendarysmoothb5751 Super salute OG! Ya'll were the soundtrack for NY streets and Lo-Lifes during that era. I know gangsters that start crying when they hear Nice & Smooth records because it brings back to many good memories. We were in them clubs every night! The Car Wash, Cafe Wah, Octagon, Red Zone, The Muse! I remember seeing ya'll perform about 3 times in one week! No matter how many times we seen ya'll perform we would act like it was the first time, because all the shows would be different. Ya'll were putting that work in for real!
I also remember the first time meeting you through Special Ed for that show in Providence Rhode Island. I don't know if you remember. It was with Ice Tea, Smooth The Hustler and His Brother Trigger. That night was a movie too!

I need this guy's energy 😎
He comes from a time when you had to have your own unique personality. That's why they had Yo MTV Raps trading cards. Most of these guys had superhero appeal. Nowadays these sorry muthafuckas have boring names like Travis Scott... sounds like a 3rd baseman for the Brewers.

“I guess that’s why they call it the blues” in Spanish sounds damn good
Tracy is trying not to be forgotten. Her lifeline is still music and when the samples start being bigger than you, a lot of times ppl don't wanna hear the original; just the sample. Plus she has a high sense of artistic integrity.
That's the price of owning your own. Much respect to the god that is Tracy Chapman.
Who is tracy chapman?
Maybe she just doesn't like what these rappers say in their music? I know guys like Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones have had rappers change their lyrics on songs that sampled their music, refusing the clear it otherwise.
@John Peaches you're kidding, right? She's def a legend.
She's awesome what a talent!
I agree Tracy is a treasure. She didn't sell out an she kept to her roots. You gonna sample fast car than you gonna have to pay.
He killed that Spanish freestyle ☠☠☠🔥🔥🔥

You can't be mad if someone doesn't want you using their music/sounds/sample. That's their intellectual property and right. The good and bad of sampling.
Oh my goodness this is the first post that I've seen on this subject that makes sense.
Doubt he was mad. All he said was she could have did 50/50 with them. It was only the beat that was sampled they switched up things and used their own lyrics so it ain’t like they totally ripped off her song.
She still foul for doing that
@@zealousjay1993She said gimme the loot
@@zealousjay1993not foul at all, they’re lucky she even let them clear it.. Sting took all the publishing from Missing You P Diddy. When rappers sample R&B songs and rock songs for their singles, if the original song was a hit then the original. Compser usually asks for 79-90% of the pub.
Tracy ain’t foul it’s business.
