2017 Shining Knight Gala: Denise Gorondy's Story

- On Saturday, May 6, 2017, VCU Medical Center’s trauma team hosted the ninth annual Shining Knight Gala. Each year the gala recognizes the heroic efforts of EMS care providers, other first-responders, as well as numerous doctors, nurses and support staff from a wide range of specialties at the medical center.
The highlight of the gala was the story of one remarkable patient, and the numerous individuals whose coordinated efforts created a sophisticated system of life-saving care. The closing song in the video - Tell Your Heart to Beat Again - is used with permission from the artist - Danny Gokey.
Each year, more than 4,500 Central Virginians sustain major traumatic injuries each year and are cared for by the VCU Medical Center’s team of trauma experts. As the region’s only Level 1 trauma center, VCU Medical Center has 24-hour, on-site emergency staff, surgical staff, dedicated operating room space, and round-the-clock access to laboratory services and subspecialties.
Our passion goes beyond treating traumatic injuries, we strive to prevent traumatic injuries whenever possible. The funds raised at the gala will support VCU Trauma Center’s Injury and Violence Prevention Programs. Through these programs, we work tirelessly to make our community a safer place and serve as a national model for violence prevention in youth populations.
