The only problem is that if you are indeed a small independent game studio even something "bite size" like this takes multiple years of full effort to develop. There's no room to be thinking of larger games let alone working on them and the first while is just spent recouping money for all the Ramen-only days and other sacrifices you had to make and resting so you definitely aren't funding the next bigger project. Usually the remaining profits are then just enough to maybe hire half a handful more people and buy enough Ramen to start doing the same thing again but a little better and bigger. Only double A and AAA studios could treat releases like this as bite size inbetweeners.
i used to play these games and long for 3d games and now i see that the 3d era lost creativity in favor of spending the budget on graphics and trailers and quick time events ... these old school compact games felt unique thats why indie game are taking over
Great video with lots of research on the developers. This game is the best purchase I made in years, turned immediately into a favorite when I bought it on release ^^
@@Ytnzy250 I‘m not a collector, but sometimes when I cherish a game a lot I buy a physical copy for the shelf. I double dipped with Huntdown. I was weak and couldn’t resist…
This honestly was one of 2020's best games. Single player is pretty tough as you say though, would be nice to have some extra pips of health and more ammo in the special weapons to compensate. Most bosses by phase 2 you are no longer pro-actively fighting but just running away taking desperate pot shots with your signature weapon with all else depleted long ago.
What a great looking game. I was never hugely into sidescrolling run-and-gun or brawlers, but this one had such an intriguing setting that i was sucked in, and the gameplay was fun enough that i stayed sucked in. My hope is that this game gets a sequel, and that the developers take it in a more exploratory, metroidvania-esque direction. As it is though, it's a really unique game, and i look forward to more!
Don't play it in solo, by the 2nd or 3rd faction, the game is way unforgiving, and unoptimized. I know this, since i've played it since launch, before & after, they've added support turrets for the flamer boss or the Metro Station 4 waves hockey enemy rush. And about the "sense of accomplishment" its more bittersweet, ambivalent, in the sense that yes its cool and fun to go back to retro roots like neogeo or cps2; but only when the level design and fights, are doable in Solo without too much repetition... because adding a difficulty mode just based on the boss's extended health bar, is a drag, a false sense of achievement.
Idk, myself and at least two others that I’ve seen stream this on twitch were able to beat it. It was tough for me and them though, I’d say it’s just faithful to retro game difficulty to a degree.

This game is a masterpiece. One of the best I've ever played in nearly 40 years of gaming. They absolutely went all out and put out a total package.
@@SotNist it’s great!
I agree i woild like more Huntdown, or anything along these lines from this dev really. They impressed me greatly
Yea they have a lot of talent! What stood out to you!?
If I was an independent game studio, I would put out bite size arcade style games like this to fund growth and larger games.
Smart idea!

I love that idea!
It'd be fun if they made an FPS set in this game's universe ala Blood Dragon.
I like your thinking!
Fascinating!
It's great that you included the development story
If I can find it I love to show it!
game is excellent. what are they working on now?
Is it realistic to do a pistol only run?
Could try, would def be extra hard mode lol!
