This is it.They don't make this kind of performers anymore. This is an Era long gone. Louis Armstrong was unique as a musician and singer. He was a genius. Mr. Danny Kaye was a very talented artist. A great, great performer.
Danny Kaye makes me so happy! His talent, voice and comedy skills were the best. I was pregnant when he passed and loved his real name of David Daniel so wanted to call my baby after him but wouldn't look great for a girl so waited for two more years and finally got my David Daniel!! He's 34 now.
Bing Crosby was a great appreciator of Louis Armstrong. I read that it was on Bing's insistence that Satchmo was cast in High Society. And had Bing insisted so too would have Sinatra.

Mr. Louis Armstrong was indeed very talented. Mr. Danny Kaye was exceptional in everything he did as well. I just finished reading his biography and it lead me to this video.
The golden age of talents! And a real genuine personality. Perfect artists! My father's generation. Well, they are all gone. Thank you so much Mr. Danny Kaye and Mr. Louis Armstrong.💖💖💖
It's literally IMPOSSIBLE not to love Louis Armstrong. He was not only and tremendously talented and gifted musician, but seemed like the kind of man I would love to have as my grandfather. Love and respect.
@@StrongCaramel Was called Pops by the younger generation of Jazz Musicians coz he was older. That's the only reason. Probably better if you didn't try to rewrite history.
Ivan Hajncl I made an observation. Add your observation if you like. But spare me your snarky remarks. I’m not rewriting history. And since you are so well versed in your knowledge of jazz, let me add a statement of fact, which is Sachmos contemporaries and peers of similar age ALSO called him pops. Bing Crosby is one that comes to mind.
Would loved to see either or both live what talent. Two artists (both a bit underrated) showing any doubters that they are top of the game. They make it look effortless. Probably was for them. Nothing better.
Astounding talent. Never to be repeated by any future generations. The foundations these two developed their talents and built their careers on no longer exists.
That is talent that we will unfortunately never see again. I was born in 78' but my favorite comedian to this day is Danny Kaye, one of if not the greatest improv artist ever to grace the stage.
I always loved Danny Kaye but in this video he surpassed even my memories of him. Together with Louis Armstrong...so much joy! Two beautiful beings, one short, fat and Black, the other a tall skinny red-headed Jew....what a wonderful combination!
To even share the same skin the same melanin with this man makes me tremendously proud, as if I have the honour. Growing up with this beautiful mans sound in my ears, wow I got lucky ❤️
Just sublime, it's obvious that these two performers loved playing together. What starts as an innocuous show biz number turns into a free form, scatalogical freak out. Solid.
Despite racism and being taken advantage of by managers Pops triumphed with his music and utter humanity. Louis Armstrong was one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century. I wish that I had born at a different time so that I would have been blessed to have seen him in concert.
when people of music sings... singing is like child play. singing is delight. singing is like jumping for joy. i have endless description of how i captured this memorable moment of danny kaye and louis armstrong.
whats interesting about this is that you have two talents sharing the same stage without attempting to upstage each other each staying in his respective lane n just appearing to have fun with it......
looks to me like Danny Kaye took up residence in Louis's lane for the duration of this clip, and Louis just smiled and let him play 'little louie' for a few seconds. Could have been embarrassing if left to other folk.
Louis Armstrong is a type of guy you could talk to all day and you wouldn't get bored. Such a talented musician and a really nice guy. What I wouldn't give to see him.
They did this in a movie but this looks more impromptu. Louis Armstrong and Danny Kaye were performers extraordinaire--each by himself, and together--WOW!
I've always been a fan of Danny Kaye, no question. I know also that he was a connossieur of both classical-music as well as jazz. In addition, I know Danny was a huge-fan & admirer of Mr. Armstrong. All that is great & commendable. My only reservation in a joint-number like this is---did Mr. Kaye really need to imitate Satchmo there? Sure, it was totally-respectful & amusing but he's standing right-next to the great-master himself. Kaye should've let Satchmo be Satchmo, as there's only one. No need to compete with an imitation, or try to out-perform the man. Still, the pair's most-entertaining together, regardless.
@@jackbuckley7816 Louis Armstrong and Danny Kaye performed this song in a film, "The Five Pennies ". The film was about Jazz musician, Red Nichols; and his band "Red Nichols & His Five Pennies. Their heyday was in the 1920s . Band members included the likes of Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa, Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman, etc. Red played the corner (also for the film). The changes in music, his daughter becoming ill with Polio and WWII brought an end .... for awhile. After the War, Red was drawn back to music and formed another "& His Five Pennies" which continued to perform until Red suffered a sudden heart attack in the middle of the night in 1965, when they were performing at The Mint Hotel in Las Vegas. Also during those years, they toured Europe many times.
To do your job and be well paid for it is a good thing. To do it as best you can is a great thing. To do it and enjoy it is a blessing. But when it's complete, is when you do all that and others enjoy it too. Here is a prime example of that.
