Bryan, thanks for this. I'm a clinical psychologist (and an action figure enthusiast!), and a BIG part of treating depression involves doing things that bring you pleasure and satisfaction. I've had more than a few conversations with patients of mine about getting back to the things they enjoy, which (for some) has included action figures! Your videos have also been helpful for me; after a day at work, unwinding with HCC788 helps to keep me sane. Take care and be well!

I've always been a big fan of Jinx. They always say boys won't guy girl action figures, but I was so happy to have Jinx and played with her almost always.

HCC788: Super solid review, as always. Jinx was a very strong point in the 1987 animated movie, for sure. In G.I. Joe: Retaliation, her yellow and black outfit was very reminiscent of a new character in the more recent comics (maybe from publisher Devil's Due or IDW?) named Agent Helix. Anyway, awesome review!
Bryan: Thanks for opening up and sharing about your personal life & past, your motivations, and reasons for putting so much effort into these reviews. I come here for the nostalgia and to re-live some happy moments from my youth. It's a feeling that has become harder and harder to recapture as I live my life and get older. Your videos often help me get in tune with those moments, most of them fond memories. They also help me accept that it's ok to re-visit those moments and have fun with them now. I can be an adult and I can still find these moments fun.
So thanks on both accounts for being a good reviewer and producer of fun review videos and for being a good guy, grateful for his audience, open and sharing.

This was sweet, and not in a patronizing way. Life happens, who you were makes who you are. The toughest thing is not forgetting who you were at some point and seeing you progress. One thing I liked was you ignoring the past, then gradually going into it after you had finished what you concentrate on now. You really are a positive person, and good ambassador for Joe. Never look back, go forward, but build on what makes you who you are.

I came here for jinx video, I left with so much more. Brian, toy collecting has saved me as well. After deployments Iraq and Afghanistan I found myself in a place where I was numb to the world, no longer felt connected anybody. I felt I had nobody. When I finally started therapy, my therapist collected Pezz dispensers, and recommended I find some thing that I enjoy collecting and join a community around that item. At the time it was Star Wars, and then he grew into G.I. Joe as well. Now I am successful with a loving Family and people who love and care for me in the toy collecting community. This video really hit the spot. Thank you for sharing. yo Joe!

Jinx was the only good thing to come out of that movie imo. She was the only GI Joe my sister had and we would play together. Your channel has helped in rekindling my Joe interest. I've had stuff in storage tubs moved around with me for 30 years and now I'm getting into restoring my favorites with replacement parts. So thanks to you I've found some joy myself which has helped during this shelter in place situation we find ourselves in.

I was wondering where this episode was going. For me it was 5 years ago that I began to feel like things had become a dystopian future. Business, work, financial, and medical issues coupled with the decline in new media, environment, and society; really began to wear on me. I realized my collections of Joes, movies, TV shows, Star Wars, and other items from the past were what I really enjoyed. I like the past better and I realized it was time to stop, slow down, and enjoy what I already had. I feel ya.

Jinx was one of my favorite G.I. Joe figures. She was the last that I remember buying from the original run of 3 3/4 figures,as I wasn't too excited with the direction of the figure line at that time . I wasn't following the comic book at that point,so didn't know what she looked like without the mask. The mask actually made the figure more appealing to me in the same way that I liked Snakes -Eyes . With Snakes-Eyes you could project however you wished him to look like in order to relate to him. The same could be said with Jinx. I had the choice to imagine what she looked like under the mask. I was also glad that she was an Asian and one of the good guys. One thing that G.I. Joe was good about was including all types of people from different racial and social backgrounds.

Ninja punch his testicles. Classic! Another good review. A bit of a mediocre character but I always loved her. Then ending was a nice look into where you came from. didn't know that. And the philosophical take on us old Joe collectors was pretty spot on.

When I was young I made the commitment to always love GI Joe. Thanks for doing these great videos. It's great to be among others who share the love of GI Joe.
You are right, these toys are not just plastic, they are characters and a lot of them have depth. That's what I love most about them.

Respect for sharing these personal issues. It adds depth to the channel to understand how you got into collecting and how it helped you deal with setbacks. I can relate to that. Your old channel sounds interesting. What I value most in your reviews is the political and cultural knowledge you bring to the analysis and it sounds like that's something you've carried over from your previous incarnation.

I loved this video. I loved Jinx. I rarely got to play with her because as the only female figure I had my little sister took her all the time until it was stolen by some kid in school.
I also loved your candid confessions at the end. Your videos have indeed helped me and I am glad they help you too.

Great review of my favorite figure! You may recall on Joburg and other FB spots I declared her my favorite member of the Joe team for all the points you precisely hit on in this review! That and just the happiness the 1987 line brought me that none of the subsequent figure lines quite lived up to. The point of the therapeutic value of the Joes to many of us is not to be understated and is a great slice of life you added in. For me the Joe collection has always been central to my life story and its nice to know there are others too out there that attach this kind of sentimental importance to these toys we have saved cherished and in many cases collected all over again!

Great review. There was a remake of jinx in the early `00, she was part of tiger force, and the same mold was used for the cobra rattler 4x4 jeep driver. I know you don't review past the 90s so it's understandable to not mention it here. Keep up the great work.

Not many female characters, but what we did get was top tier. I remember looking over Jinx in the shops, and trying to decide between her and... I think it was Big Boa and Road Pig. I opted for Road Pig, and he may have been the last GI Joe figure I ever bought. I still have a pang for Jinx and Big Boa!
I also think I saw some of your videos back in the day...

I've watched at least 10 videos out of order, probably based on my favorite Joes. This video's ending threw me for a loop. Your old channel sounds pretty awesome. Not looking for them though, just here for GI Joe. But it makes me love what I'm watching even more knowing a small part of your RUclips past. Peace good sir.

Jinx did have a convention exclusive action figure in 1993.Here is more about that particular figure:www.yojoe.com/action/convention/jinx93.shtml
It is pretty surprising that she did not get a action figure produced as part of Ninja Force. You would think that she would have been a shoe in for that sub team, given her connection to the team in the comics.

I enjoyed Jinx's inclusion in the line, I only wish the animated series could have stuck around long enough to build on her appearance in the '87 movie. She's actually the only female character I had on my Joe team. To be honest, I think my mom wasn't aware that the character was female; she just knew I liked GIJoe and grabbed whatever figures she saw on the pegs.
And I might disagree with you on one point. I hesitate to go so far as to say that GIJoe was tokenistic with female characters. In a military context, the representation depicted in the line was likely over-representative for females in combat roles 3 decades ago. Even now, just 7.5% of female military personnel have a desire for active combat positions. www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/02/25/army-women-combat/5811505/
This seems to scale with the ratio of female characters in a toy line about a military combat team -- the one woman per 14-15 Joe characters introduced each year from '82-'87.
True, there were comparatively few female Joes, but I remember caring about them -- their motivations, their backgrounds, their contributions to the team -- as much as I cared about any of the other Joes.
Here's to the continued celebration of the cultural artifacts that connect us to the memories of youth and the experiences of unencumbered joy.

Cool video. I had Jinx and liked the figure but liked her comics version even more. Kept thinking a new figure without mask would come out for some reason.
It's interesting to see that you used to have another channel and that it was so different. But I love how you explained the transition.
One piece of possible trivia. In Jinx' file card it says she knows the Iron Hand. That could be a reference to Iron Fist. Larry Hama got his start at Marvel illustrating the early issues of that book.
