- A breathtaking fusion of poetry, ethnography, and cinema, Sergei Parajanov’s masterwork overflows with images and sounds that burn into the memory. In a series of tableaux that blend the tactile with the abstract, THE COLOR OF POMEGRANATES revives the splendors of Armenian culture through the story of the eighteenth-century troubadour Sayat-Nova, charting his intellectual, artistic, and spiritual growth through iconographic compositions rather than traditional narrative.
THE COLOR OF POMEGRANATES is available on Criterion Blu-ray/DVD 17 April 2018: www.criterion.com/films/29219... Кино
I went into the film without knowing anything about the Armenian culture. The poetry wad fabulous and the imagery was exceptional too.
I've never seen a film with so many rugs as this one
Can’t swing a dead cat in Yerevan without hitting at least 10 rug merchants.
This movie is a fucking trip man. such uncompromising filmmaking in the way its narrative is told while still appearing elegant and other worldly.
I was tripping off shrooms had to turn it off lmao
Truly astonishing, indeed magnificent film!
I feel like youre following me ;)
Criterion, Thanks for honoring the great Armenian filmmaker Sergei Parajanov! Restoring the treasures he made as film Art so that they are preserved is such a grand service to world culture. Parajanov's Art flourished in spite of the repressive cloud of Soviet/Stalin era dictatorship, even his years in prison for being a unique creative individual.
Thank you Lady Gaga for introducing me to another world
Thank Tarsem Singh, who directed the video.
the world of satanic
A world of unoriginal bandwagon hipsters.

@@meed2431 lol. No. Sorry buddy. Surrealism has nothing to do with your religious fears. Armenia, in fact, is one of the oldest Christian nations in world history.
But thanks for the laugh. It's always amusing to see how people react to surrealist films, particularly when all they know about film is Hollywood.
Quite beautiful and unusual. Today I heard the name of the film and will look for it. Thank you.
Honestly, im disturbed, from this scene.
If you're a fan, check out the version with the Nicolas Jarr score
Very odd indeed. I'm not sure how to react. I've seen Kubrick display art without words in 2001 and Eyes Wide Shut along with Lynch's Blue Velvet. However Paradjanov seems to amplify this to the point where art that doesn't seem human anymore. Odd indeed a bit overwhelming
I watched this off shrooms only got a half hr into it was overwhelming
I’m here thanks to Gaga and I want all of it

Who else is here because Mattiel introduced them to this film?
Aku datang sebab zhafvlog

Lady Gaga brought me here
As a film historian, i find that truly bizarre. This is incredibly esoteric stuff. I know she has a taste for vaguely surrealist imagery but an Armenian experimental film from the Soviet era?
What did I just stumble upon?
gold
Ah yes, just the weird I needed
THIS IS A CRITICÁL!!! BEACU... IS GAGA IN SU MAYOR EXPRESIÓN.!!!

I am wondering what is going on with the drapes. Is the Guy trying to find drapes from nuns but he can't choose?
I feel bad for people who come here thanks to Lady Gaga lol

@@tamerov2387 art should be entertaining
@@TheNeverposts I personally don't think so. In my opinion, art is there to enrich oneself spiritually. The idea of entertainment is in my opinion overrated. But that's only my view ;)
@@tamerov2387 meh, I guess you're right
cascade How the art makes you feel is down to the artist, films like pulp fiction or hot fuzz are here to entertain but films like Schindler’s list or Requiem for a dream are here to make you feel like shit😂 obviously these less entertaining movies aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but it doesn’t mean every film has to be entertaining to give it value
What is this
Kinda creepy
This film represents life and death, struggles and suffers of a soul. That wherever you are, whoever you are and whatever you do, death follows you. Yeah, kinda creepy

Ah yes, the old mysterious, and yet oriental dapper, the kind that makes no sense whatsoever, but somehow, makes a profound impact on the masses of riffraff, suffering from an incurable inferiority complex.
Ah yes, the masturbatory philistine, so pleased with his vulger words of wisdom, despite them leading to no good whatsoever. He mistakes his small closed mid for a great secure vault and sees himself as a great declaimer of pretentiousness and defender of true culture and the human spirit. See his utopia, purged of anything that could be construed as silly or excessive - eventually Humanity returns to it’s animal state, dull eyed and shuffling mindlessly, heroically bereft of any potential for Art or selfhood.
